I use to have an 015L. It was an awesome little saw. Mine had a 14” bar. My grandfather had bought it new. It sat for ten years and I put gas in it and it ran like new. I now inherited a 020AV which is a hair larger but the same metal body. It has no spark so I gotta take the thing apart. Thanks for sharing…..
Hey Dave. The early ones came with a 1/4" pitch small chain and that's what is on yours. The later ones some had 3/8" pitch, that's the beefier one you bought. Stihl doesn't make sprockets for that anymore, but you can go online and buy an aftermarket kit that comes with 3/8" sprocket n basket. Bearing, and white plastic oil pump drive (which you need) . And you can put the beefier bar and chain on. I have an 015l and a 015av. The l had factory 3/8" but av had 1/4" so I just went through same thing. Ordered kit and received it a couple days ago.
That is one sweet little saw. I am a big fan of old school with very little safety. I have an old Homelite that I got Bruce to tune up for me and I love it. Nice and light and you can cut all day with it. The older the harder it is to get parts though. Thanks. Stevo
Hi stevo. I remember that homelite Bruce fixed for you. Old homelites like that one were good saws. I have one in the barn I need to fix up. Yes I really wish I could get the proper sprocket for my saw but at least I can still use it right. Have a good weekend
Those old O15 are sweet saws. I have a farm Boss 290 and what I guess replaced the O15 MS192 and we really like it its got a 14" bar and cuts like butter!! Went last Thursday for my 6 month check up with my Breast surgeon and everything is great she was very pleased how good I looked and doing!!
Hey Dave! That's a great little saw and a great story too! That's the problem with the older stuff, trying to get parts for them. For a little saw, it sounds pretty mean! Take care
Hi John. It is kind of a mean little saw. I can still get a bar and a chain I just wish I could get the sprocket part of the clutch but at least I can still use it right buddy. Have a great weekend my friend
It seems that what you have is original 1/4 pitch LP 0.50 Gage ( low profile) and what you bought new is 3/8 pitch standard . Yup 3/8" is farther apart between teeth/ links and the kerf is deeper into the bar. 1/4 pitch are available.
How's she goin'? That's a fine looking saw Dave!! I have a Husqvarna of similar age and size. I really like it too but there is a problem with the fuel tank. It leaks along the seam and I can't find gaskets for it. I expect due to their age, getting parts will be an issue. Your saw starts and runs great eh. The similarities between this saw and my Husky are amazing. I think way back then the Stihl and Husqvarna companies were a lot closer than are today!!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!!
Oh wow I didn't even know Husqvarna made saws back then. I wonder if you could use this stuff called "seal all " on your saws fuel tank, It's gas and oil resistant. I use it on cracked fuel tanks. Thanks buddy
*I've built about 20 of these saws, know them like the back of my hand. The 015 chain only comes in 2 pitches: 1/4 and 3/8, looks like your new bar and chain is the smaller 1/4.*
@@bigtexas7580 in another video one of my subs sent me a new clutch cover, so that was cool. I might want an original clutch for a bigger chain but to tell ya the truth this smaller chain works pretty dam good
@@davessmallenginerevival2847 *I agree, the 1/4 pitch chain is harder to find and more expensive than 3/8 but it does cut cleaner. I have one that is white and according to serial number 9513013 was made in 1975. Can't find any info on it as it is different from any that have an orange body. White 70's Black-80's Orange-90's To get to the carb I believe the engine has to be removed because the carb side/pull rope side is also 1/2 of the gas tank. Can find parts diagrams for newer 80's and forward but nothing that is specific to this saw!

First! Nice little saw and won't kill you by the end of the day.

Hard not to like that 015 - they don't make them like that anymore.
Thanks Claus. No they sure dont
Dang. You can’t say there’s no plastic on saw now with that bar and chain.
