It's a good idea to avoid tuk tuk rides as much as possible, they try to scam you very often in places packed with tourists. Grab or taxi with a meter is the best choice unless you rent a car or motorbike and drive by yourself. 🙂 I miss Thailand and Bangkok so much, it's been 3 years since my last visit there.. Thanks for the nice video. 🤗
Yes you are so right!! Grab is definitely the way to go. You need to come back for a visit haha!! It is such a wonderful place! Thanks for your comment :)
Sorry for the Tuk-tuk driver's behavior and this is the worst problem for traveling here. A ticket is for both the visit to the Temple and the Grand Palace.
The complex is composed of 2 area. One is the real grand palace ( the place where the royal family lived) and the second one is the temple area(a temple exclusively for the royal family only " temple of the emerald Buddha". These 2 area are adjacent to each other.
Bangkok's Grand Palace was built in the style of Ayutthaya Grand Palace with a royal temple inside reserved only for the King and relatives to hold Buddhist ceremony. Since the temple is in the Grand Palace there is no monk living in the temple. It is only the functional temple in Thailand that has no monk resides in. Monks from temples nearby are usually invited when the King performs Buddhist ceremony. It is a tradition that any novice who passes the highest Pali Grade 9 language proficiency will be royally patronaged and ordained into monkhood in this Emerald Buddha temple. Pali is the language spoken during the Buddha's era. Buddhist Dharma was originally transmitted by Pali oral tradition (still practiced even today when monks cite Pali sutra every morning and evening) but later transcribed into Pali alphabets, similar to Sanskrit which is the main language of Hinduism. There is a nationwide exam conducted annually to assess Pali proficiency and few novices/monks pass Grade 9 language each year, normally fewer than 10. So you can imagine how hard it is. At the Grand Palace, you can see Garudas (mythical flying deity) grab Nagas (mythical serpent-like deity living underworld). They are sworn mortal enemies in Hindu and Buddhist legends. However, both are God Vishnu's mounts. When travelling, God Vishnu mounts on Garuda. When resting in the sea, God Vishnu lays on bed transformed from Naga's body. Garuda is a sacred deity in Thailand and Indonesia. Thus Indonesia National Airlines is "Garuda" while Thailand's official emblem is Garuda which is affixed in front of official paper and shown on Royal Announcements on Thai TVs. Naga is sacred deity in Thailand and Laos as protector of the Lord Buddha. Temples in the Thailand's North and Laos often feature 2 Nagas at the front leading the steps into the temple. Standalone Naga is featured prominently along Mekong River on both sides of Thailand and Laos as well. Here is the full name of Bangkok. Krungthep Mahanakorn Amorn Rattanakosin Mahintra Yuttaya Mahadilokpop Noparat Burirom Udom Rachnivet Mahasathan Amornpimarn Avartarnsathit Sakkatiya Witsanukamprasit Here is my rough translation. Krungthep the motropolis, the royal capital of Ratanakosin dynasty following Ayutthaya dynasty, a grand palace resided by God King.
Oh wow, that place is amazing. I'm Thai. I haven't seen it. I've never been there. I'm excited along with you. it's very beautiful thanks for sharing I didn't miss a minute and waited for the next one.
Hi Mick!! It was so beautiful and yes there was so much to look at! Our eyes didn’t know where to go. The food was so delicious. Thanks for your comment :)
The first temple is a first class royal temple and it's not two temple like you thought. This temple had many sections such as temple section where Buddhists or any people can come in to pray or do some activities, second part is the area that monks live, third section is buddhist college and the forth section is a school for children.
There are two explanations for what sculptures represent. One is that they represent Siam (the former name of Thailand) and other three major Western powers of the colonial era: Elephant for Siam Horse for the French (I dont understand this ref tho) Lion for the British and Eagle, is of course, for America Another explanation is that it represents four ethnicities/kingdoms/territories that Siam power reached Elephant is Lan Xang, the Lao kingdom ("xang" is Lao word for elephant, and in Thai its pronounced "chang") Horse, pronounced "ma", represents the Burma/Myanmar territory (hence "ma" and Bur*ma* / Myan*ma*r) Lion is for Singapore ("sing", from Sanskrit language, means "lion" in Thai, and the name "Singapore" which is also have a Sanskrit root, also means "city of lion") Siamese influence once stretch into Malay peninsula and Eagle is for the Yonok people, another name for the Northern Thai people. ("nok" means "bird" in Thai)
Thank you so much!! We are exploring many parts of Thailand this trip and already planning to come back and visit more of the north! Thanks so much for watching :)
This is far from Scandinavia, also in a figurative sense. There is a lot of noise and pollution everywhere in Thailand. I've been there and I'm never going back.
Brother, 50 baht is impossible Tuk Tuk Gas now so much expensive it's mean he completely "No Income" in city high cost of living. He not scam. He not thing. Hope you understand 😣
Some tuk tuk drivers are so bad. Some of them overcharge and lie to tourists by saying that the Grand Palace is closed. Actually, it is open every day from 8.30 a.m. till late afternoon, except during the Royal ceremonies during which it may be closed during the ceremonies.
HAHA next time if you have situation like this tuk tuk or taxi driverman speak erratic you can report tourist police 1155. 24hrs. take his tuk tuk registration number also...police will manage him.
Try to stay away from Tuk Tuk, they are mostly scams even with local residents. Even passerby taxis around old town are scams. For other part of the town taxis are generally ok. I am local and I got piss-off by them countless of times.
If it is possible, I would like to know the car registration plate of that tuktuk. I want to report that tuktuk driver to the police and everyone involved. This is really evidently. These people need to be harshly punished. They destroy tourism industry.

I am so glad Jacob knew what he was doing!! Thank you so much 🙌🏼
Grand Palace is the appropriate name for this place. So ornate and impressive! Thanks for sharing!
Right?? It is so detailed and beautiful! 😍

TukTuks are just for a fun experience. Don't use them to actually go somewhere because every other transport is cheaper and faster. 🙂
That for sure makes sense!! Thanks for your comment :)
That is good to know!! We probably won’t ever take a tuk tuk again, but they are cute!! Hahah! Thanks for the information :)
6:57 Huh interesting to know that they charge tourist that much for grand palace entrance
