I have had an automatic water system on my chickens for at least 5 years now. It is such a time saver. I've also installed an automatic misting system since it gets to be over a hundred degrees where I am in California
That’s awesome! I would have to agree. I’ve my cows, pigs, and now chickens all on automatic water now. Huge difference! You have any suggestions on the misting system or where to buy parts? It’s not something I really have to have but I wouldn’t mind doing it eventually. We occasionally have heat index’s that’ll get over 100.
@michaelstrahl My husband and I actually our own channel and we have the video on making the mister system. It's JK Feather Ranch and we posted it a little bit ago. The mystery system is temperature triggered so as soon as it hits 95 degrees the system turns on so you don't have to worry about not being home if the temperature sudden spikes and you don't have to worry about overwatering since as soon as it's cool enough the system shuts off.
That’s a nice setup. Also by having the flush out connector on the other end allows you to daisy chain to another chicken tractor with another garden hose and only need one RV filter. If you have another one then it could be on the right side of the chicken tractor. #apppa
Thanks! Yes very much so. It’s hard keeping up with all of my projects, businesses, young family, and everything else I get myself into! Projects like these make life so much easier! 😁
Mike - I like your watering system and will be making something very similar with the Little Giant waterers. But I'm curious about your chicken tractor. I really like the inside height. What is the LxW of it? Did you build it from scratch or buy it as a kit?
Hey! Sorry I just saw your comment. This chicken tractor is something I came up with myself. It’s 20’x14’. There’s no plans but I did make a quick video last year going over the tractor & where I sourced some of the parts. You are welcome to check that out. Happy New Year!
Hey sorry! I just saw your comment. The lip of my drinkers are at 11”. If I were to do it again I would go 9-10”. It’s a bit high for 3 week old birds. Once they hit 4 weeks they do fine with them.
Thanks! I’m in Indiana. I only raise meatbirds from late March to beginning of October. Freezing won’t be an issue for because I’ll be done before then. I’ll just make sure the line is drained and probably bring the waterers in out of the weather. I plan to bring my layer flock into my greenhouse this winter. Still working on that plan but that should eliminate all of my water freezing issues completely at that point!
You know, it seems simple, but mine leaked and leaked and leaked/overflowed. I tried adjusting and just gave up. I too thought it would have been the best.
Dang I hate to hear that! I’ve seen those reviews out there. And you adjusted those 2 nuts on the valve itself? I’ve only been running them for about 5 weeks now but so far they’ve been awesome. That is after I got them adjusted which did take me a bit to get how I wanted them.
@@mikestrahl I’m tempted to dig it out and try again. I have adjusted the nuts multiple times. Either way it seems to keep filling up and overrunning. I didn’t think it needed a pressure reducer but maybe it does
You should give it another shot! Definitely check pressure though. I didn’t need a regulator. I fell within the parameters they recommend. My pressure is around 40 psi. It’s just an awesome system but I can definitely see the frustration if I had to deal with constant leaks!

Well that sounds exactly like what I’m looking for! I go over and take a look at what you’ve done. Thanks for the help!

Thanks! Yea that was kinda in the back of my head as well. Try my best to future proof myself. Never know what the future my hold
Genius.
Absolutely 🆒 and a timesaver, cleaner water leads to healthier chickens.
You seem so relieved.

That's alot of chickens
There’s a few there. What’s crazy is the farmers I follow & look up to are doing this by the thousands. 😳
Good job on your video and the chicks!
Thanks I appreciate it! Appreciate you watching. 😁

Nice
Thanks! It’s worked out great so far.
Hey man, great video. I just got one of these same automatic waterers, how high did you put them above ground?

Looks great. Not sure where you are located but what are your plans for the winter and freezing temperatures?
