Chickens are off to the processor! Here's a look at how the process works for us.
One of the more taxing task of our farm operation is loading up chickens to take them to the processor. This is a 2 day event for us. Day 1 we get the whole batch loaded up so I can make the hour drive to our processor & drop of our birds. The next day I make the trip again to pick up our finished product. Everything gets loaded up into the freezers & then it's time to get all of our equipment cleaned up & ready to go for the next round. This video is an inside look of how we take on the this task & what we find to be most efficient way to do it.
Here are a list of items used in this video that make our life easier!

This should drastically help with my daily chores by not having to tote a water out 2 times a day every time...

I strongly disagree. Yes it depends on a lot of factors. Property type being one. We are flat with no nearby water. The individuals maturity is another. This girl picks up on things fast. The teacher being another. If you feel unsafe doing so I respect your decision. I’ve been running this equipment & much larger for over 20 years. I know the in & outs. I never leave her alone while she is out there. Her brother knows he is not allowed anywhere near her while she is operating equipment. It’s funny because she pretty dang good running my tractor for me as well. In fact better than some of the adults I work with daily for that matter.

Dang I hate to hear that! I’ve seen those reviews out there. And you adjusted those 2 nuts on the valve itself? I’ve only been running them for about 5 weeks now but so far they’ve been awesome. That is after I got them adjusted which did take me a bit to get how I wanted them.

@@michaelstrahl I’m tempted to dig it out and try again. I have adjusted the nuts multiple times. Either way it seems to keep filling up and overrunning. I didn’t think it needed a pressure reducer but maybe it does

You should give it another shot! Definitely check pressure though. I didn’t need a regulator. I fell within the parameters they recommend. My pressure is around 40 psi. It’s just an awesome system but I can definitely see the frustration if I had to deal with constant leaks!

@@michaelstrahl Oh it’s always something! Lol My girls are approaching teen years and something I am so glad we do is constant communication. They aren’t allowed to use devices. When they were 8, I taught them that they needed to save for a phone when they are 12 so they could babysit. Well, when my oldest turned 12, I still wasn’t ready. You’d think telling a 12 year old girl that we are pausing the whole phone thing until we figure out some things would lead to chaos and terror. It didn’t. She was disappointed but because we have conversations about WHY we do things and even ask her questions about how she will handle things like that (AND we all spend time together rather than us using devices all the time) she was not upset. I’m so proud of how she handled that! This last school year alone, she has about 200 hours of service hours

I love this! It gives me hope. I’ve tried my best to maintain certain values from the old days. We sit down & eat together every night. If anyone ever breaks the no electronics rule at the table it’s me. 😞 I need to do better. They are both pretty good saving their money & very rarely fight me on the electronic rules I have which are way more strict than every friend they have. I’m pretty tough on them but I also show them a ton of love. Hopefully they grow up respecting me for the way I’ve raised them & not despising me for it. There’s so many a-hole kids out there today & it makes it hard to explain to my kids when these kids are so mean or why they have everything under the sun given to them. You are right though communication makes a huge difference. Hopefully I can keep those lines open as they get older!

@@michaelstrahl strangely enough I've never used iMovie. I think if you're comfortable with it, it's fine. I love final cut pro 7, I've been using it for many years. But I've had the modernize and I'm using final cut pro x. It's a major learning process and I'm struggling because it's such a large change. It seems easy to work with the audio though. It definitely has a lot of possibilities. You can isolate a voice from background noise. It is pretty awesome if you're in a noisy room or outside with wind. I'm actually not a fan of Adobe premiere especially on earlier versions. it's really hard to deal with audio.

Ok that’s good to know. I feel pretty limited with iMovie. It’s what I had so I just went with it. I don’t know how advanced I want to be but I don’t want the software to be what limits me. I’m trying to figure out how everyone does the slide overlays on screen. For example if I wanted to do a cost break down while I’m talking about a project. iMovie has been great to get started but I feel like there are some efficiencies I’m missing out on because of its beginner oriented nature. I think Final Cut is probably the investment I need to make in the future.

@@michaelstrahl maybe you'd have an easier time learning it. It's just so tough for me because I know the previous version so well. There's definitely a lot of RUclips videos out there that help with final cut pro x. I don't think I've done graphics in it at all. I will have to check it out. We usually make graphics in Photoshop and bring them in FCPx.

I'm watching your Farmers market video. Come to the conclusion you just talk fast. I think you should try to talk slower for your videos. I would have liked to have seen closeups of the other booths. Ever watch Just a few acres? I found your channel b/c Pete stopped raising pigs. He does a great job with his videos. If you watch the really early ones, you see his improvement.

Would love to see a rough sketch of for the larger tractor. That or show what ot looks like on the inside and how it's connected. Tractors this size make more since to me. Please also discuss dimentions as well. Thank you!!!!

You got it! I’ll get a video put together here soon and post it. I’ve got some pics of when I did the build and I’ll talk about where I sourced my parts as well as dimensions. Give me a few weeks and I’ll see what I can do

The first time I heard the term, "chicken brooder", was in a Jerry Clower comedy routine (if you know who I'm talking about, you know the routine to which I refer), and I swear to you, I thought he was saying, "chicken rooter". For the longest time, I thought it was some sort of farm plumbing fixture, or watering device.

I’m vaguely familiar with Jerry but don’t recall the comedy bit you are thinking about. That’s funny tho! 🤣

living in the southwest, my birds were outside in their hutch, i would often find smaller speckled eggs mixed in with the broody hens clutches. hatching them out reveled them to be roadrunners. they are cucoos and will drop their eggs in any next they can find.

So funny how the pigs go through the ripped metal instead of the large opening on the end. My goats have finally done that to their shelter and use the small opening instead of the 4-foot wide gate.

Enjoying your videos. I like seeing small channels more than I do watching million-subscriber channels. Once they get that large they have all the money in the world to do whatever they want and I just can't relate to them. Anyway.

Hey I appreciate that! We all have to start somewhere. I don’t if I’ll ever get that big. Seems like a lot of headache once you get to that size. I’d just like to get to a point that I can quit my full time career and make my living at home with the multiple income streams I’m trying to currently build. RUclips is just one of those endeavors. I really enjoy being able to put something in a video with the hopes that someone can learn a little something or hell even learn maybe what not to do as well. 😁

Glad I saw this follow-up video. My goats would destroy this. That metal doesn't look as tough as what I have on the roof of my house, but it is corrugated the same way, I wonder. I think I'd have to have the metal come closer to the ground because my goats would stick there head in there and lift up the whole shelter, and I only have Nigerian.

    • @michaelstrahl
      @michaelstrahl Месяц назад

The metal is roofing that Menards sells. I do know there are different gauges available though. The shelter does a pretty good job of staying in place. I just had to fix the weak points. Time will tell as they get bigger if it stronger this year or not. 🤞🏻

I need this for my goats. I'd want to leave both sides open though, but I'm sure it would work just as well.I have a permanent shelter and I'm ready for a change. I still want a shelter to separate the bucks, for birthing, and for milking, but want to move to portable shelters like this. I just hope they'd be tough enough to withstand goats ripping them apart.

I think you could easily adapt this to work for other livestock as you mentioned. That’s what I love about RUclips. You can take an idea and say hey I could probably make this work for me and just change this one thing!

All the guys are amazed at how she can drive these machines. It has really given her the knowledge to do many other things. Keep up the great work with your daughter - the sky is the the limit
