    Looking forward to this task. Excellent description of disassembly. Always helps to see the process before actually doing the job.

      Yep, agreed! Even if you end up taking a different approach, it’s nice to have a big picture view of the overall process, that way you can plan accordingly - acquiring tools, parts, materials, etc. Good luck to you!

    Great video :) It's a good opportunity to swap the seat backs between driver and passenger sides to even out the wear on the bolsters.

      Indeed another option! Pretty cool that they are interchangeable. 👍🏼

      Thanks man! As you know first hand, it’s all about the time you put in. And this one took a bit, which is probably why I put it off for so long. 😂

      The fabric is pretty tight on the passenger side to the point where it pulled in the piping a bit where the side seems join at the front. It’s not perfect, but the only other option would be complete recovering (like you did) or seat swap. At least there are no longer any holes. 😂

      @@NC944er I think it looks great, man. If it was perfect, it would have less character.

    My seats in my 84 944 are rusted and in a sense "welded" in place.
    Do you have any advice on how to bust loose for removing..?

    • @NC944er
      @NC944er  3 года назад

      Oh man! So the first thing I would want to do is ensure the latches for the forward/back seat adjustment are correctly disengaging when that lever is pulled. The lever twists a bar on each side of the rails and disengages 3 metal locking tabs, but one side is controlled by a connecting rod passing along the center to attach both bars. That rod is affixed by plastic clips that can break. If the connecting rod is disconnected, only one rail will unlock when the lever is pulled.
      If you can peek under the seat while pulling the adjustment lever and you can see both sides moving, then it may well be that the rails are rusted. In which case I would place some towels all around and hit the rails with penetrating spray, let them soak for a bit, then try to leg press the seat from the front or back seats as needed to break it free while someone holds the release lever. Let me know if you have any luck! 👍🏼

      Dealt with the same problem on my 85 last week...soaked the rails with PB Blaster multiple times and eventually the latch came unstuck however the rails were still rusted to one another. I got the seat to move forward and back to some extent but not enough to get to the bolts on the rails. The covers were going to be replaced so we cut the bottom cushion cover, removed the foam cushion and had access to the bolts.

      @@papasmurf986 Nice work and thanks for sharing! Was yours the victim of a failed battery tray allowing standing water to repeatedly enter the floorboards? Hard to believe they can get rusted to that extent.
