You're talking about Delicious Monsters! I'm sorry you've been going through emotional sludge :( if it's any consolation, I am horrendous at following stories. I will almost always read the synopsis/ending before consuming movies or short stories (books and various forms of series are 99.99999% of the time too long to keep me around). I'm so serious when I say I actually read Delicious Monsters from front to back, zero spoilers.
None of the problems felt forced, everything felt like a natural progression, the plot wasn't slow, the characters are absolute gold.... You wrote an amazing, amazing novel. Count me as part of a growing fan base, because 💜💜💜
Thank you so so much!! 💚 I really am feeling much better now which is great, but it was a tough time for a bit.
I went to Barnes and nobles here in Bellingham Washington and seen your book on the shelf and got excited because I follow you on YT and feel like I know you sort of lol. It was awesome to see.
That’s so cool that you saw it there! And lol I totally know what you mean, I feel that way with people I follow too ☺️
aww I'm so sorry. I bought your book hardcover to support you only about 90 pages in but so good so far and such a unique premise. since the book is good, I'm sure sales will pick up as reviews and word of mouth kick in!
Thank you so much! And I feel that way too, I think it’ll do fine in the long run
I'm sorry things didn't turn out as well as you had hoped! I rushed to pre-order it so I had it in my hands the day after it was released. And I have to say it's a lifelong keeper for me. Delicious Monsters made me cry so much! For Daisy, for Grace, for Brittney, for Ivy, for all the characters really. And for myself. It is such a personal, heartache story amid the atmospheric horror that was the setting. It's one of those stories that I wish I had when I was younger. I've said that since I started reading and I keep saying it to anyone that'll listen to me talk about this book.
Omg thank you so so much for saying so, that means so much to me 💚💚💚
I'm so grateful to you, Liselle, for your generous transparency... you defang and demystify the whole traditional publication journey in a way I appreciate so much.
It's easy to think getting a book into print will solve so many problems once and for all, while the reality is that it's an opportunity for its own unique worries and problems. Like the rest of life.
Thanks again for sharing it all with us. I buy and read your books, but this channel is the real inspiration for me (still trying to get there).
Thank you so much! That’s what I hope to do by sharing my journey. I’m just one person so it’ll be different for everyone, but I’m happy to give that peek behind the curtain to help people see what it’s like. And very true, you achieve one thing and more hurdles pop up. And wishing you the best on your own journey!
My mom, sister and I are all reading Delicious Monsters for our book club and we are LOVING it!!! We’re a little over halfway through and having the best discussions about it!!! So freaking good!!!
And lol! I’m the opposite with titles. Even after I name it something new I can’t stop from calling the old title every time hahahaha!!
I feel like you went through your own arc during this vlog lol!! You are crushing it!!!
Thanks so much, Becca 💚💚 happy that you’re all loving it!
And haha that’s so fair, I sometimes have that opposite title problem too, but I usually try and work hard to do the new name so then I end up with that problem.
Lol yes! A full character arc during this vlog 🤣
No one asked for my opinion but I heard about it super early last year (October) but it felt like crickets prior to the actual drop date. Also Delicious Monsters gives me niche horror (which I love about it). I think it will most definitely build momentum! We support you! Sadly it may just be the sign of the times (especially with YA here in the US). Can't wait to have time to sit down and read it. Sending you hugs! 💓
Yeah it’s always hard because as the author I have no idea how much people are actually seeing it but I agree about the momentum! Thank you for all the support!!
I got my copy and I can’t wait to read it! You are a fantastic writer and I’ve been buying copies of your novels for my family. Virtual hugs ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
You are doing great, and having said that, I don't blame you for crying. Your book is your baby, and it's bad enough when it's indy and just sits there. But trad pub? ouch. All will be well. You are a great writer. Sending hugs.
Thank you so much! 💚 and yeah, we put a lot into our books and so the emotion is the emotion, but I’m glad I was able to pick myself back up.
Delicious monsters is my favorite book of the year. Please keep writing 💕 I’ve told so many people about it.
🥹 thank you so much!! And thank you for telling people about it too! I will definitely keep writing and hopefully publishers keep publishing what I write
Thank you for sharing that hard day you had. it sounds tough and like a rollercoaster. I'm glad you were able to process and then have a better next day and keep going with the other book you're working on. Like you said, books can grow over their lifetime and not always initially when they come out. Thanks for sharing your journey. Also, I do my hair in that one style too. Where I have one braid or twist in front of my face and the rest pulled back. Sometimes I do one on each side of my face. My partner calls them my antlers. Haha!
It definitely was a rollercoaster but thankfully that ride ended haha also Omg calling them antlers haha I’ve started doing that with the style too. It’s fun how much you can do with twists
@@LiselleSambury Hahaha! Yes, indeed. I'm probably going to twist my hair this coming week. Take care.
Liselle! I'm so sorry the first week sales for Delicious Monsters didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, but I hope some of the things I have to share will cheer you up. I requested the book and the audiobook from my local library and the copies came in about a week after the book dropped. As soon as I got the notifications that they were in, I went as fast as I could to the Libby app but they both had holds that were several weeks out! I was so disappointed because it took maybe like two minutes for me to get to the right page on the app from when I got the notification. I decided to wait for the audiobook to come in since I'm poor and didn't want to spend money on a book when I have a lot of major expenses coming up - but a few weeks passed and the audiobook still wasn't available! I decided to bite the bullet and went to Barnes and Noble to buy a copy. There was a small group of us looking for the book and we couldn't find it. We had to ask one of the sellers and they went and got extra copies from the back. They hadn't realized they had sold out of what they had out front already! This was maybe two weeks ago. Now it's April - I have my book in my TBR stack and I'm still waiting on the audiobook. According to the Libby app, I should be able to check it out in about 6 weeks.
🥹💚 thank you so much, that absolutely makes me so happy that there’s so much demand for it. Though boo on waiting for the audiobook for you haha. But that’s amazing to know they had to go in the back to get more. Thank you so much for sharing that!
You are an auto-buy author for me but I'm happy you have a support system irl to get you through low moments.
Have a great and productive month of April!💛
Thank you! I appreciate it 💚 and thank you, April is already going pretty well thus far so I’m looking forward to it
You are getting SO GOOD at all your little sewing projects!
So glad things turned around for you
I’m starting to girl boss too close to the sun lol I’m making a full suit now and my hands hurt from cutting all the pieces 😩 but I’m still loving it. And yes, totally a thing of perspective and having time to feel my emotions and then move on
Liselle, I read your book in March and I LOVED it! I’m so sorry sales weren’t what you wanted them to be. I’m honestly surprised. I pre-ordered and everything! I love the alternating POVs and the inherent creepiness of it all. I understand why it was originally called Butcherbirds now. I really LOVED it! The characterizations were amazing and it had twists I wasn’t expecting. Really unique. I also have characters named Noah and Ivy in my novel, lol. 😂 Also, I signed up for your workshop! You wrote an incredible book!
Thank you so much!! I’m so happy you loved and it lol that’s so funny that you have a Noah and Ivy too! It’s definitely a book that I’m proud of and reminding myself that regardless of sales, I’ll always have that ☺️
Just from the title alone... I'm sending lots of virtual hugs (if you want any) and good vibes your way. 💞
Thank you!!
Aww Liselle!! I feel like I am very similar to you when it comes to catastrophizing things and getting sucked into things out of my control. I definitely put a lot of pressure on myself when I can't even control the thing I'm putting pressure on LOL I'm glad you're feeling better now :) We all need those crying days. Thanks for another vlog!! I love hearing the traditional publishing side of things. The more I learn, the more I realize it really is just like any other business in the world hahaha and I am dying DYING to read your short story. 💕
Yup, that’s exactly what I was doing, putting pressure to achieve uncontrollable things 😅 and we absolutely do need those days. Glad you enjoyed the vlog! And yes haha trad pub is very much like any other business I find, with its own quirks, but ultimately very similar. And the short story seems like it’s going to be out this year so we’ll get to read it in 2023 ☺️
Omg I also wanted to say, you are an auto-buy author for me!! Don’t give up on writing ever please :)
I want to say your books are amazing but I am still catching with the rest of them but I spend so long on my wrapup talking about your books and I have so much respect for your writing. And yes I haven't read all of your books yet and I am still catching up with them so stay strong❤you are amazing and worth being celebrated ❤
Thank you so much! I appreciate any reading of any of my books haha, so truly, thank you
Thank you so much for sharing this vlog. It's still a few months until my debut releases, and all your perspectives are teaching me so much.
I hope that it can help you in some way for sure! It can be tough being a debut because it’s your first time learning and experiencing everything. Wishing you the best with your launch!
I bought your book in Target as soon as I saw it!! I’m excited to read it as soon as the semester ends
Thank you so much!! I hope you enjoy when you get to it!
Because I live in Spain it's a wild ride to get freshly published books, but if I remember correctly this 13th I can finally buy it! I'm glad to hear you are feeling good with the editing process, I'm so excited to see what you will bring next! 💜Thank you for everything and your hard work! (Btw that ramen looked delicious omg)
That’s super cool that you’ll be able to get it in Spain! And thank you ☺️ also the ramen was very good! Though definitely a one time thing because it was a lot of work lol
I’m sorry things didn’t go quite as you hoped.x
Thank you! But it is what it is and I’m feeling much better about it now
I loved delicious monsters! So much I read it last month and I still think about the characters! I’m actually buying a second copy to read the extra story in it lol I can’t wait to read bear hunt! Sending hugs and positive vibes! :) great video
Thank you!! That means so much! And I’m really excited to share Bear Hunt with everyone ☺️
@@LiselleSambury your so welcome! I can’t wait to hear more of your writing updates! And to read more of your works when they come out! I hope you’re having an awesome day!
Did you just refer to yourself as "vintage Liselle"? 😆
Not to be creepy but I enjoyed your braided hair day videos. 🥰
Yes lol 🤣 I felt like I was flashing back like twenty years haha
Hey i just got delicious monsters recced to me today!
Oh yay that’s so cool!
I loved this month’s vlog but I’m sorry it had to come with a couple rough patches ! I wanted to buy delicious monsters but the indigo I went to closed early 🥲 fate conspired against me. But eventually delicious monsters WILL be mine ! 🤍 I also need to reshift the focus of my draft and essentially have to rewrite the whole thing, and it was very reassuring hearing that this kind of thing happens to you too. I hope your writing/book stuff in April is going well!
Aww I appreciate your efforts to acquire DM! And yeah, it kind of sucks when you have to rewrite stuff but hopefully it comes out for the better in the end, so I hope yours does!
