Leca and water are my all time favs. I even us Leca for almost all my orchid’s.
That was a great video. You taught me a variety of different ways to root. Thank you, love your May♥️🌿
Thank you! & thanks for watching I’m glad you enjoyed it! ❤️🪴
In order to make more valid conclusions I would suggest having at least 3 of each plant for a given substrate. I do understand how much of a pain that would be to set it up. Great video!
Yes for sure! I would like to try and do that one day but for now this is a far cry from a scientific study! Thanks for watching!
@@queencitytropicals I found your channel and realized I had ordered a plant from you on Etsy, which is doing amazing btw. I love watching your videos, and this one really sparked my interest. It would be nice to see someone like you, with some experience, do an experiment where we can really determine what certain plants like and what works best for them. Either way, I will continue watching your content, it was just an idea even if it is some day later.
Aloha Queen City, Good job, & very interesting propagation video. Thank you!!!! I’m a water propagation guy, but I like my water fancy, haha….. I put a small ceramic magnet, & 3-5 mosquito bits into each water bottle, and all my propagation bottles are Perrier Bottles, haha….. Have over a hundred of them, hehe…. And here in Maui, Hawaii it’s a race, when water propagating, do you get roots 1st, or mosquito larvae???? So just a few mosquito bits keeps my water propagations mosquito free, the ceramic magnets changes the water structure, & of course the Perrier Bottles makes the water Fancy, LOL……… Aloha
Thanks for watching! ❤️ I’ve never tried the ceramic magnet but now I’m curious! There’s nothing cooler than a whole bunch of fancy plant propagations! 🪴
You and May are both adorable! Great video!
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Really cool video! This really answered my biggest question on prop❤️
I’m so glad to hear that! 🪴❤️ thanks for watching!
Loved this, so many different substrates, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Water is my favorite for rooting most cuttings because it’s easier and cheaper than the other options. I also have used fluval stratum for some Hoya and a white princess cutting that wouldn’t root in water or moss. The WP is thriving in stratum, although the roots tend to grow up toward the surface, so I might put it in soil. I use moss in my prop boxes for wet sticks and small single leaf cuttings. I recently bought pon and put a begonia and a king anthurium in it, but haven’t tried rooting in it. I have several plants growing in leca and might try propagating my peru in it after watching this video.
You really can’t go wrong with water propagation! Sounds like you’ve tried about all of the options! Thanks for watching!
One of my favourite types of videos 😍😍 thanks heaps!
Thanks for watching!
Great video, I enjoy these kind. Mae is so adorable! My go to prop substrate is perlite.
Thank you! I love using perlite too it is a definite favorite of mine! Thanks for watching!
@@queencitytropicals Can you tell me the pros of chunky perlite vs. the finer stuff? I've never seen big perlite like yours.
I liked seeing so many different substrates for this experiment! I've definitely found that water and perlite (but in a closed humid environment like a clear bin or bag) works the best for me! But I'm DEFINITELY going to try sphagnum next time I try to root my Peru to see if I have any luck with that cuz DANG those suckers don't seem to wanna live!😅🤞
Monstera peru are so tricky to root! I’m not even sure if I have ever tried them in moss before because I just assumed it wouldn’t work. Thank you for watching!
Thank goodness for cue cards. Lots of prepbonbyour part.
I so agree with others..it doesnt make sense if using different plants with different materials. Should be the same plants in different materials. But we get the idea.
And cats!!! Drives me crazy!
Oooh just found your channel! I’m in Clt too! I raise Neoregilia, Achmea and amphioxus begonias.
Very cool!! Those are all such interesting plants! Thanks for watching! 🪴❤️
love your dog!
Thank you! 🐶
M Peru is also one of my favorite plants❤
Lately I’ve had success propagating with Pon and putting Lecca in the bottom inch of the cup below the Pon.
Hoping it’s not a plant crime to combine the two😅
Great video!
Thanks Michelle! I figure it’s not a plant crime if it works right? Also I bet that looks super cool with them both together like that! 🪴
Hoyas will root in anything. I am surprised by the fluval and perlite. I thought they were 100% guaranteed success.
I was really surprised by the fluval and perlite too! I’ve had much better luck with them in the past I felt like. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this helpful video!! May I ask where you got your pitcher?
Thank you! The pitcher is from Amazon and I love it!
The Peru gave me the hardest time. 3 yrs ago I bought a cutting an kept rotting off. The leaf turned yellow an kept babying it an that leaf turned back to green! I couldn’t believe it but it made it. Hard to root but very strong will too live! 💚 So even if it’s curling or yellowing just keep it an see what happens. 😀
Oh wow it turned back to green after being yellow?! 🤯That is amazing! I love monstera peru they are so resilient!
@@queencitytropicals Yea I wish I had taken pics. I had never seen that happen before.
Quick question about the pon. That didn’t look like lechuza. The reason I’m interested is because lechuza brand has fertilizer. Did the Lawson Plant co pon have fertilizer? I have a corn in Lechuza and I hope the fertilizer doesn’t kill it.
The Lawson plant co pon did have fertilizer! I bought just a little bit to try so I’m not sure it if was lechuza or not but I didn’t want to buy a huge quantity so I got that. As for the corms I’m not sure if that would hurt it or not I’m not very experienced with corms but I hope they grow for you! 🪴
Where do you get your perlite from? I can’t find any grade higher then sand and dust!😆
I usually get it from my local grow supply shop but I’ve seen it on Amazon too! I like to get grade 4, if you’re in the US I’ll be selling some on my site at the end of this week it’s queencitytropicals.com 🪴❤️ thanks for watching!
Hi just a suggestion if u propergate in leca why don't you continue growing it in leca? Hoya grows really well in leca and pon.
That perlite looks and sounds like pumice. Mine is small and airy and makes no noise like gravel might.
I don’t know if I heard how long before you checked for roots after initially planting them in the mediums.
I stick a chair in front of my shelf to keep my dog from my plants when i have to use my lower ones.
Oh that’s a really good idea! Thank you!
@@queencitytropicals Or I wonder if you could get a pice of clear acrylic (to let ambient light in, if that’s a factor) to place in front of the lowest shelf/shelves to help sweet Mae direct her energy elsewhere!
@@braveheartopenmind that’s a good idea too! I bet I could find something like that pretty easily at a hardware store! Thank you!
@@queencitytropicals You’re so welcome!
Can someone tell me the pros and cons between chunky or fine perlite please?
With the chunkier perlite there is more airflow to the roots which most houseplants need!
Hopefully a toy. 🤣 Sounds like May is a very active helper. Nice experiment. So is it the medium or the cutting that matters the most.
Lol May is a very active helper! I would say the cutting is likely the biggest determining factor but it’s hard to tell whether or not it’s going to be a good one until you try and root it. Unless it’s a known rehab type of cutting
I love your video I like to propagate in water but I have a hard time transfering to soul
Thank you! I used to kind of struggle with transferring them too and had to do some troubleshooting. I found I couldn’t let them dry out as much as established plants and I wasn’t letting them get rooted enough either. Hopefully that helps you out a little bit! It’s definitely something that takes practice to get the right balance for your plants and conditions! 🪴❤️
You should go through the same plants across substrates instead of all water, then all leca, etc. Then you wouldn't have to remind yourself what the Peru did, for example.

Do you have a link for the clear cups you use in the beginning of the video?
I don’t have a link for them but they are just clear solo cups I got from Sams club but you should be able to find them just about anywhere! I believe they are 9 & 16 ounce sizes but I don’t still have the container they came in.
@@queencitytropicals Thank you very much!
hi i just enjoy your video and really love your plants! could you kindly offer your convenient email, we'd like to a collab with you
