Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words! I also find this genre of video fairly relaxing so its cool to see I can create that feeling for others! Delivering the packages was a pleasure!
The drivetrain was pretty stone-age for 1987; the Iron Duke mated to a 3-speed automatic. This was a standard drivetrain for the S-10 pickups back in the day. It's built to spend a lot of time puttering around at low speeds in subdivisions, not wound out on the highway. A lot of mail carriers in rural areas opted to use their own 4x4 vehicles so they could effectively deal with icy, snowy, or muddy back roads.
Yeah, I’d say these did their intended job extremely well! Although I could definitely see why one would use their own vehicle, these don’t deal with dirt roads, or heavy rain super well from what I’ve experienced.
Taking the LLV test tomorrow. Did a ton of practicing. This was a cool POV. Gave me a good idea about how this little truck moves. To me it’s like an old golf cart. At least with how it turns, lol. I gotta say, offset backing maneuver on the test was tough. Glad you like being an ARC! I am gonna be an RCA.
@@melodiusalien Good Luck! For me it wasn’t as much a test as it was sort of instruction. I think they use the road portion as the test though. The truck to me drives like an old broken down cartoon vehicle 😂
Omg. You’re right though. It’s so rickety. Love the mirrors though. Practiced driving in my own car for the test and just went “Yep. Mirrors 1 and 5 are just my side views…” Hope we get a ton of those new Oshkosh’s in my office.
@@melodiusalien haha yeah, you get used to the quality though. I am actually dying for those oshkoshs to roll out into my office because almost every LLV in any given lot will have some sort of problem, sometimes causing me to have to go back and switch out with another one. Also because I wanna make a pov vid of the oshkosh 😅
@@SlammedPOVs Yeah lol! I am a little nervous for the actual road test. Because the road I am going to be testing on is busy. Not a problem though. I’ve watched you drive and others, too. It’s such a silly vehicle. I like the novelty. I hope you can get an Oshkosh. In my state we got hot summers. I’m used to it tho.
@melodiusalien Don’t be nervous! The road test for me was one of the easiest parts! It was fairly busy but it was mostly just driving around following the rules, then doing 3 point turns, and then some parking, and then going back. It’s really easy, I even accidentally passed the post office after telling the dude I knew where I was going (they had me test at a PO an hour away) and I still passed the test. Good luck!

Same here in rural WV, the ruts in our roads alone would probably get these stuck but the creek crossings and mud don’t help.. Jeeps are very much necessary here
@@SlammedPOVs Very interesting, and that's honestly surprising! A lot of the new buses I've seen have this modern, sleek appearance. But it sounds like the addition of ac has taken a backseat.
@@SlammedPOVs I think it's more of the former, districts just trying to save money. I think your memory is fine, because I know I distinctly remember no AC on the school buses. And it seems to me like they were using the same kinds of buses throughout both of our youths.
Yes, they briefly trained us on them during the LLV training day. We mainly played around with the controls and then were taught about all the blind spots but they let us drive them for like 5 minutes. Much much smoother than the LLV, but far too many blind spots
@@wonderbread2764 there is 359° of view, but when backing up you really only have this mirror all the way in the back that you have to look through another mirror to see, so it isn’t the most optimal thing in the world. It shakes and rattles and can be pretty hard to see out of when there’s a shadow or it’s a little darker out. We still do have to back up in some cases: like when at a dead end that isn’t a culdesac we might have to do a 3 point turn, or when parking the truck at the end of the day some spots need to be backed into. Backing isn’t the worst thing in the world, it’s definitely doable and can be safe. It’s just more of a precaution than anything since there’s been tons of pets and people ran over whilst these things have been backing. The newer gen vehicles have backup cameras though.
@@SlammedPOVs the is for the reply! So if you don’t mind sharing what do you make an hour driving and for the time your not driving like throughout the week
I don’t mind at all! So my hourly rate is $20.13 per hour, which can differ per state. Florida I believe is around the average of all the other states. I’m not always driving, I do have to scan and sort packages and load the truck beforehand, but all is the same with the pay. I usually work around 5 hours and only work Sundays and federal holidays (MLK day, Labor Day, etc), so I don’t make anything during the week. It’s a pretty good gig for some extra money but as a standalone it definitely has me keeping my eye out for a second non usps competitor delivery driver job (I’m not allowed to work for a competitor).
