    This machine is fantastic.I work many years in architectural sphere,and i must say i have seen many ways of creativity on the walls and fasades of the buildings.The special part of Architecture is the renovations of the historical monuments based on the old photographies.

    don't bother uploading filament, just cut off the filament near the extruder and select load. then as the filament loads insert the other filament. no more blockages. Yeah hope this helps.

      Add a few lines of gcode to make a load/ unload print (gcode)file. Just print the gcode file like you would any other print. Use existing start and end gcode from another prints gcode file.
      M109 T0 S230 ; set temperature of hotend to hotter custom setting
      G1 E-50 F1200 ; rewind filament 50mm. Use E+100 to Load 100 mm use custom length for total distance for >100mm add another line

      I was about to buy this printer. Have the main issues been resolved? Like, I won't need to buy a more powerful fan or print a shroud for it? Spool size? Those are the only kinds of issues I'm worried about. If gcode modifications are needed, that's easy and it won't stop me from buying it.

    Very good review! Glad that you purchased the printers yourself and not just given to you like the other reviewers do. Maybe when your talking about a print, give details on the process settings and brand of filament. Again, excellent job, and I think your channel is going to grow big in no time!

    If you have an SD card in the slot you can manually set the temperature of the nozzle to whatever you want all you need to do is click print and then on printing and you will be able to set temps via the Deb.

    Been wanting to buy a 3D printer for some time. I literally found you today while trying to see the difference between the i3 v2.1 and the i3 plus and I'm very excited to have found your channel in such an early state. You're ahead of me and that's great because I know nothing lol, and your channel seems as if I could learn a lot from you.
    I really want to see you finish that failed project where the printer contacted the project. I feel that would've been a perfect way to sum up the review and see how far you've came with it.
    Now to figure out where to get this beauty and some spools to get ready to get to work.

      Michael Baxter hey, glad I could help you out :) I will most likely try to print a different marble project. To be honest, I could have probably managed to print it if I just changed the orientation of it :) from what I have seen, the upgrades to the plus are well worth the money you pay extra so I would def recommend it as a beginner. The 2.1 will print as good, just needs more tinkering and printed parts

    failures in two identical models in the exact same layer seems to be an indication of software error , only the software is identical in 2 printings, all the rest is changing from first printing to the second ( ambient temp, position , leveling etc)

    Thanks for this. Came here after watching Maker's Muse's review and now I'm confirmed and glad to say that Wanhao i3 Plus will most likely be my first 3D printer!
    Been thinking about these and watching all sorts of 3D printing videos for over a year now, but I think I'm ready now !!
    I'm also a 3D modeler by profession and modeling is my greatest passion which I want to expand by getting a printer...
    Only thing left is to figure out the best place to buy it.. (that ships to Finland... propably UK or German Amazon!)
    So yeahh thanks for all the nice info and tips!

    Very nice and informative review; thanks especially for the M400 tip. I'm still waiting for my Prusa Mk2, but after your unboxing I ordered this one too. Only issues are slightly bent bed (which makes levelling frustrating, but works great anyway) and oozing at the start, which I solved with a skirt. Angus has a start script fix for that which I'll have to test.
    Haven't seen the fan issue (yet), maybe since I've only used Simplify3D. I'll have to test the Marble Machine.
    Thanks for all the great links and info; in particular looking forward to your review of the Flexion!

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      Glad you enjoyed it. the Gcode is my next step to it, i like what angus did with the purge line so will def go for it. The marble issue could also be attributed to the material + the fan so it might not happen or it might, wish you luck either way. this and the mk2 combined are great little machines to have. Happy making :)

    I really appreciate your effort and time. great video wishing you all the best. l owned this printer for 4 mouths ago the only problem I faced and still struggling with it that when I design and print the mechanical parts the printer prints the parts with angle( it printing not a lined, not straight, curved parts) only when the parts are more than 30mm u can see the angle shift, that really pissed me off. I spent 4 continues hours levelling and alining everything, still not fixed 😠.

      3D Maker Noob I am actually looking to purchase the Wanhao that you were reviewing. unless you could suggest a different model. I need a large build area as I will be printing mainly scale size rc accessories and I hope to print a few rc car bodies as I improve my skills

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      roy fazenbaker the duplicator i3 plus would more than make it. I would also suggest in the future to install a flexion extruder. Comes in extremely handy for flexible and also comes with an extra heatblock and steel nozzle to print in nylon and carbon fibre. I'm actually testing one out right now and will do a video review shortly on it. Am very impressed with it even though it's a bit costly

      roy fazenbaker you can't really go wrong with the prusa. While it has a few quirks, the quality is quite amazing. All you would need is a hardened steel nozzle from E3D and you're set for some awesome filaments.

      Any filament will do it will stay on it will just look a little wonky, once you've got everything set up just print a new one (there's loads on thingiverse) once printed you can experiment with any filament you desire.

    Awesome review! I have the Monoprice version showing up tomorrow, watching your review it appears I made a good decision. I'm mainly going to use it to print models of houses, do you have any settings tips for PLA to get nice clean, straight prints out of it? Temperature, speed, etc? This is my first printer. Thanks!!!

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      hey, glad you made this choice, you won't regret it :) for PLA, i usually go at around 190 degrees or the lower end of the scale for recommended temps, with a 50 degree heatbed. 50mm/s is a good speed to print at, however if you want more accuracy, i'd go for 40 - 45 mm/s. most important, upgrade the fan shroud and get yourself a radial fan :)

    Hi, this video was very informative thank you for making it. However, I have a problem that I hope you could help me with. I Just bought my first 3D printer and it is also a Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus. I think this is a great Printer and I have had a lot of success with it so far. Unfortunately, I ran into a Problem that is when I design a 3D model using Autodesk Inventor 2018 and then export that 3D model as an STL file then load the STL file into the Version of Cura that came with the printer I don't always get exactly the same model that I designed. For example, I designed a simple ring that has an outside diameter of 1.25 inches and an internal diameter if .85 inches and a height of .27 inches. When I sliced this file with Cura I did not get perfectly round circles. the circles were made up of several short lines on the inside and the outside of the ring. I also tried to slice a 1-inch diameter threaded rod but instead, I got a cylinder that was made up of short lines around the circumference of the cylinder and no threads at all. I know that the printer is capable of printing with the precision necessary to make these parts but I believe that Cura is not slicing them properly. I tried using a different slicer and had a similar problem. I also tried downloading a threaded rod file from Thingiverse and slicing it using my version of Cura and that actually worked fine Cura was able to recognize the threads. I don't know why am haveing this problem and I am hoping you could offer some advice on how to fix it. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you, Ben

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      Hi Ben, unfortunately i am not yet well versed into design, however from what you told me it seems that the model you designed might possibly need more polygons? have you tried throwing it into meshmixer to increase the number of polygons in it?

  • @stevenpalm9484

    You mentioned that you dialed-in the perfect settings... Are those something you can share, or would it be dependent on each individual unit? I am strongly considering purchasing one of these.

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад +1

      The setting vary between filaments. However the first thing i would suggest is to Use the latest version of Cura. I would recommend a speed no greater than 50mm/s per print, ideally 40 as i found it to produce the best results. 0.2mm layer height is optimal and i tend to always use 2.5mm of retraction distance at around 35mm/s. those are the settings that work best for me. in terms of temps, it all depends on the filament used. The printer performs great. While i use simplify3d i know that the latest Cura version works very good with it as well. You most certainly won't be disappointed with it :)

      Thanks for the quick reply!! While there are bad reviews of this printer, there are bad reviews about most of the printers I have looked at. :) I really think this will work out well as a starting printer and probably for quite a bit more than that. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge. I am looking at buying the Monoprice version here in the USA.

    Very good and informative review! I want to buy the Prusa i3 MK2 but it would take 7 weeks for it to arrive and when it arrives I won't even have time to build it (I have to go to school) so I think the next best printer for me is this one. Keep up the good videos!
    PS I just subscribed :)

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      Hey, Thank you first and foremost :) Yeah the wait of the prusa is quite long unfortunately and it's putting a lot of people off. while it is worth teh wait, i do understand the frustration. The duplicator is definitely a good compromise, it is cheaper and definitely a solid printer so you won't be dissapointed

    • @SmokedHam444
      @SmokedHam444 7 лет назад

      3D Maker Noob I do think the Prusa is a good printer for those who already have a printer and can wait a few weeks. Maybe, since they're getting more popular, they should start injection molding the printer parts instead of printing them because it'd be much quicker and possibly cheaper on large scale. Maybe the MK3, who knows? Also, that was a very fast reply ;)

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      Yeah i have a habit of replying to everyone unless i am asleep lol and completely agree. i know that prusa have been expanding the farm and now they also have to start producing the multicolor addons so it will only get slower unless they step it up

    • @SmokedHam444
      @SmokedHam444 7 лет назад

      3D Maker Noob Really appreciate it when RUclipsrs reply :) And yeah the multiextruders will make the production even slower. And the thing is, if they expand their farm, lots of hours go into the printing and building of the machines.

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      hehe yeah which is why i try to reply to every comment. not easy, but it's worth it :) if they do injection molded parts though, then they would be going against the "reprap" idea of self replicating machine. they would obviously be much more sturdy, but you would be alienating a whole community

      +Gion Uein it all depends which brand you want to use, the fan duct is in fact PETG from rigid.ink printed at 235 degrees and 70% fan speed at 40mm/s

    Great Vid!! Do to your fan and Dii cooler upgrade did you have to run the fan at a lower setting than 100% ? I have the Plus on the way and am wondering if I should get the turbine fan upgrade or run the stock fan with adapter on the Dii cooler upgrade? Thanks!

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад +1

      jtford20 I don't really adjust fan speed to be honest unless I am simply testing out a filament. I would suggest the turbine as it gives you much more flexibility in terms of control, the stock fan is not very powerful and with an adapter it becomes even less efficient

      +Thomas Stover I completely get you, time to tinker is not easy when you have a demanding day job and a family, I end up taking up my sleep hours for tinkering. In terms of failing in, I usually go with slowing down the speed to 40mm/s, lowering temps and upping retraction, I also suggest printing a diicooler fan shroud as that helps a lot.

    Hi mate! I want to buy the first 3d printer to my girlfriend as a gift (she's a 3d artist with strong interest in 3d printing, and she worked with extremely expensive models in the past), and I was looking for reviews on "cheap" models. For a first timer, what do you think is the best model to buy? I'm asking you this even because she'd like to start her own small business, so I guess she needs a budget model, but a "good one". Thank you mate, awesome video!

    hi! do you have experience from the duplicator v2.1 or another wanhao duplicator also?

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад

      unfortunately not yet, i might get a v2.1 in the coming months just so i can compare both of them. from what i hear print quality is nearly identical, the difference are functional or aestethics, like the touchscreen vs knob and LCD or the external power supply and so on. there might be some differences in rigidity of the frame as well but not entirely sure

    • @rasmusjansson751
      @rasmusjansson751 7 лет назад

      ok! Im thinking about to buy the v2.1this month.. cant really see why I should buy the plus.. my thoughts: if you do a inclosing to get better abs-prints the 2.1 would be better with the sensitive electronics outside inclosing box.. if a cable get hurt or damage in the 2.1 you can buy it easy in every store, in the plus you need to buy a special cable.. plus version cost like 100dollar more and have upgrades who dont make anything better? bigger built plate, auto level, better extruder or that kind of things I would understand, but 100dollars and those upgrades, whats the point?
      Sounds like a good idea! I have watch pretty many youtube review and get the feeling the most people have some problem with the plus and things that jams, but the v2 everybody says works (after the platform leveling) perfekt.. you know if it is possible to use usb-stick btw?

    • @3DMakerNoob
      @3DMakerNoob  7 лет назад +1

      i fully agree with you, if the quality is exactly the same, i would save th 100 dollars and go for the 2.1 to be honest. as far as i know they don't take USB, the v2.1 had the SD card upgrade from the micro SD. as you said, if you are building an enclosure, having electronics on the outside is much safe seeing as it wasn't built to have one.

      yes it does. i'd say check connections, check to see if it is activated in the slicer and finally check if current is passing through it, either through a multimeter or by replacing the fan. if none work, i'm afraid it might be an electrical issue

    i will never get a wanhao printer again because i got my printer and they gave me 2.1 upgrade kit separate to install. Wanhao took a lot of my patience..... for 10 days I was trying to find out why it stop extruding after hours of print, it was a bad stepper that warranty didn't cover because I did the troubleshooting by swapping motor.... I also know there is a fire risk with both anet and wanhao printer, but if you do the mosfet mod on wanhao you will never ever get anything from warranty in comparison with Anet. Love your videos keep then coming!

    Great guide. Thanks to it i was able to do much better prints myself. But i was wondering if you ever tried to do a "bridge test" with the Wanhao i3 +? Im having trouble printing it with a good quality. This for instance? www.thingiverse.com/thing:113160

      +Bananskum for bridging, cooling and speed is the keep factor, make sure you have a good cooling fan on and set speeds to about 40mm/s

    This is a very slow, circuitous review style. Very little information is provided relative to the length of the review.

      +Daniel Meyer very early stages of my 3DP channel so apologies :)

      Yeah, I meant it constructively. You have some genuinely great insights, but you need to distill the information a bit more. It'll come with practice. When I gave my first few lectures I also struggled a lot.

      Daniel Meyer hehe yeah I've learnt a few things since then but still, always room for improvement. Reviews have become much more structured now with a lot less "uhmmmm" and "ermmmmm" :)
