- In this episode we install a 2017 Mustang IRS (Independent rear suspension) in the 1940 chevy sedan that I'm building for my mom. This suspension setup is going to be AWESOME!! The story of the car: My dad bought the shell of this 1940 chevy 2 door sedan in 1990, to build for my mom. Due to financial and health issues, it had been on the backburner ever since. Almost 30 years later and I decided its my responsibility to get this car done for mama. "Tinmama"!

Yes !you are good! At your trade!!
Oh thanks!
Getting it done, Tinman!
henry fjord always trying to!!!
Brother your skills are second to none (except maybe your dad haha) keep up the good work I really enjoy your videos.
Smooth Walrus haha thanks! Dad doesn't have the patience or attention to detail that he used to have, so I've passed him up the last year or two. But definitely lots of talented guys out there, so I appreciate the compliment :)
I see a possible issue, you have 1/2 the sub frame rubber mounted and the other not. Those rubber mounts allow flex to occur. The half that is solid bolted will be trying to keep that flex from happening, thus creating a stress point. I think it will be minimal but something to consider.
iambeeman1 good observation, but I'm well ahead of ya on that one. Just couldn't figure out a way to solid mount it and make it look halfway decent. The mustang came stock with 500hp+ and dudes drive them nuts. I'd bet my mom won't drive this car like that. lol
Tinman 2 Kustoms you could knock out the rubber and get a solid slug machined to fit the hole and bolt it up that way. But its very unlikely to ever be an issue, so probably not worth worrying about.
First found this channel, read the description. Got a thumb up based on that. Can't wait to get into the show
Ever have any issues using a 110 for chassis work? I got a old Lincoln 140, gonna upgrade to the eastwood 175 some time soon. I used it for shock tabs and i want to square my control arms on my toyota to get rid of the stabilizer arm, but nervous to do anything structural.
EvanThaG no sir I've never had any problems. Even welding 3/8" plate. Just gotta be smarter than the metal. Stack the odds in your favor. When in doubt, double pass it out. Root pass and a fat weave over the top. And no extension cord on the welder, extra clean metal, etc.
Btw, the eastwood machine is a good machine I've heard. I'm just having a hard time saving up money right now lol
well gives me some more confidence to tackle some projects myself. Anything I will be doing would be on a minitruck or hotrod, so 1/8" or smaller usually, somtimes a lil thicker. That frame on wild torquey also stood up to some violent launches too and hauls that goose neck.
EvanThaG yessir exactly! And some of those welds on torquey were quite shitty if I do say so myself lol our big welder took a shit right when I started that build, so learning how to weld with a small welder took some time. But it works. If I were building an off-road vehicle, mudtruck or anything faster than 8 seconds, I'd use a bigger welder. But for the time being it works haha
Very much a killer tip with the hole saw!!! Excellent!!! Keep Rocking it out!!!
Finally more progress - I've been waiting - and thanks for sharing!!
Well done Luke, I've been watching your videos for years and never get tired of them!
Nik Kinakin thanks man! Appreciate following!!
How do I get hold of you im more than willing to pay you for your time I want to put a clip in a vehicle
I wish I was your neighbor,
Good for me,
Bad for you...
Lmao! That's funny

I would just love to help, and hang out.
Lots of great information I learned a lot. Thanks for the post.
Did I see correct.?.Solid mounts in the rear and rubber in the front. That could cause the weld to crack in the rear.Id cut a old tire and put a piece in the rear mount to give it a little flex.
Yeah on final install we put a little piece of rubber between the rears. Good observation and sorry I didn't mention that
Thats a ton of amazing looking fab work... really like how the mount incorporates shim plates for adjustment. Smart, very smart... thank you for sharing !
TheCanadianBubba thank you! Just takes lots of thinking & patience. Nothing someone watching couldn't do :)
Mom sais it all.
well done luke !!! too nice work keep going with more crazy and good ideas
Xristos Koutsos that's the plan bud! :)
So inspiring and motivating. I love your videos. Great one as always.
Bryan Snell thanks man! Time to get back to work ;) lol
Looks good man, the redesign, welds, all good. Onward!
Zeek Duff thanks man!! Appreciate the following and comments
You always amaze me you are so talented in what you do you need your own tv show im not kidding you are second to no one in fabrication take care man cant wait for the next video
jcricket 1710 thanks man! Maybe someday :) thanks for being a consistent viewer & commenter too!
nice you do great work....and i like how you build stuff with what you have laying around........
I agree with your Dad that ain't music and is annoying to listen to.
I'm taking donations to use better music, if you're interested. Otherwise, I like this free music that I'm allowed to use. My Venmo is Tinman2kustoms
How much did you pay for the rear.mustung assembly
I had a basset hound, and a mom that made the comment on a first fire " Sounds like it's a solid cam. Is the lash loose?"
Wondering before the registration do you need an engineering report for safety and welding.
Mr. Man - do you do custom cars for a living?
Yes I do. If you're in need of work, feel free to reach out to me via facebook or instagram. Tinman 2 Kustoms facebook.com/tinman2kustoms or instagram.com/tinman2kustoms or yahoo email.... tinman2kustoms
I know I am "late to the game" but I wanted to throw out some comments. Your attention to detail is insane. Your always over engineering is the way things should be built! Your knowledge really shows when you explain why you did this or did that! Thanks! I will keep working my way through your builds. (and education)
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Excellent Fabrication there sir! You and Jonathan W should go into business! He could, make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!!
Drew Toner haha who is Jonathan W? I'm not very up on RUclips videos or anything. Spend too much time on the computer/RUclips just doing my own stuff!! Ha
nice work keep up good work
Great video, good blend of info, action shots and editing.
Thank you!
You make it look easy !.great work!
Thank you!
did you say you use a 110 welder fro frame work
James Walker yup. That's all I have.
+Tinman 2 Kustoms thanks encouraging thanks all I have as well. was a bit worried about trying thicker stuff but your welds look good
James Walker thanks! It's all in the welding settings, being comfortable and using decent materials. Believe me, I'll be investing in a larger one, but this one has worked for me for the last few years. Just can't burn through stuff as much as with a larger welder
I did a 1995 Vette IRS on my 1948 chevy...
