    I got a Malinois female puppy about 3 months ago. I agree with everything she says. We are dong great now, but the first two-three weeks were crazy. It was like I invited a coyote into my home.

    If I were a young man again. I would have one if these dogs. But being nearly 76 years old, I don't have what it takes to own one
    They are beautiful dogs. But they require hours and hours of exercise and training. I will just settle to have my golden retriever.

    I have a mixed Pit and Malinois I got him at 28 days old for free! He is so gorgeous, has physical features of both, is multi colored. 55lbs at six months old. Smart, strong and very protective. I couldn't figure out why such a temper until I figured out what breed his father was.( mother of course pit ) He is hyper emotional and very involved in every day activities, The bathroom comment is absolutely spot on. I live in an very rural place which is perfect for him. I am so glad I have finally figured out his breed, it has answered so, so many questions. Awesome video! THANKS!!!

    There really is no perfect time in life to get a Mal. Young, no $. There's college, work, kids, restricted time. Retirement, it might be harder if you have arthritis or you'll wish you were younger and a bit less easily tired.
    I have no idea what waiting for the right time is. Life is short. If you want this badly enough you will find a way to work it out. I haven't had a mal at this point. I had a working kelpie. He was one of the "easier" kelpies and he was always ready to go! And super people and task oriented. LOVED him! I worked my life around him, and he was worth it!
    And thanks for saying be honest with the breeder about what you want, because a lot of people hate anyone who aren't going into every bitesport known to humanity.

    Number 2 is a FACT. I have two Belgians. A female and a male. The amount of money I've spent on them in this first year that I've had them totals over $15,000.
    Purchase of the pups: female $2200 male $3250 = $5450
    Training: $2800 x 2 = $5600
    Impact (escape proof crates) = $1100 x 2 = $2200
    High quality food, per month = $150-$200 per month
    **There are other expenses, like vet visits etc.....
    Point: if you are going to provide the best for this breed, the expense doesn't stop at the purchase of the pup. Also, you cannot just treat this breed like a family pet as far as the constant attention...they require a ton of your time...you can't just shuuu them away. Boundaries, routine, structure and time is going to be consistently required of the owner.
    All that said: my two mals are the best two dogs I've ever owned...their intelligence and loyalty is unmatched. Being a mal owner is so so so rewarding.

      She's not being honest about the cost . for the puppy, except if u want a puppy from beauty contest winner and so on, u can find healthy bloodline for under 1.000$ (average 900$). (at least in europe)
      For the food u need 150-200 per month.
      Vet for the first visit, or if the dog is sick. AND THAT'S ALL, there's no more cost needed to make your dog happy except your love and your time. She's a rich girl, trying to find a way to spent her money. u dont need to be rich to own a malinois.

    The maligator mom is high drive that's the only way you can have high drive dogs, take her advice at face value other wise your harming the dogs, every dog can be a great dog ,it takes every bit of what she is saying, if you don't have it don't do it ,its a life long commitment like your child ,all to often these dogs suffer ,get shuffled around ,home to home and then eventually to the shelter, where they may never come out of they never ask for that, evaluate your drive and commitment first ,don't kid your self, it would be selfish the dogs deserve better, all they want is leader ship and love and you will get rewarded 10 fold great video

    We just picked up our 8 week female Belgian Malinois she’s very sweet and smart . A bit nippy but not to bad . I did notice feeding her this morning for the first time she does have food aggression . I didn’t think such a young age they would show this behavior . Can it be corrected ?

    • @luanamoonlight3068
      @luanamoonlight3068 3 года назад +2

      It can be corrected, mine was Food Aggressive too, she tried to bite me while chewing on a bone, but being so small I just pushed her to the side and took the bone aside, showing here I had no fear for her, I then gave her the bone but kept a hold on it so she had to chew on it while it was in my hand, during this time I started to pet her, first just her back and later on top of her head and close to her snout. This cleared her food aggression completely because she noticed I wouldn't just take it away. if this however MIGHT make it worse I would suggest trading whatever she has for something she likes more. so if she has a bone and likes cheese more, have a piece of cheese in your hand, distract her with that piece and then take the bone away :)

    • @MaligatorMom
      @MaligatorMom  3 года назад +4

      Resource guarding can be corrected, especially at this young age. I dealt with the same thing when it came to Riot with his bones. Reach out to a professional trainer and work through it before it gets worse!

      When my female was young she was very nippy and would growl a lot. She eventually outgrew that behavior. She would also bark if any other dogs would walk by her while eating out of her dish...but she outgrew that along with the help of professional training.

    You wanna talk escape artist you need to meet Enzo, he’s the other k9 at the department my dad and his dog, Chief work at. This crazy mal can get out of pretty much anything. He destroyed the police car, a sky crate, and his outdoor run to the point that they had to buy a kennel from an exotic animal dealer that was meant to hold lions and tigers. One of the most memorable things he did was crawl through the ductwork at the vets while being boarded. He somehow got into the ducts in the ceiling and came down out of them with a grate around his head, the vet techs walked in to take care of the dogs and the first thing they see is this silly dog smiling at them with a vent on his head.... needless to say they now have a special “Enzo room” for when he stays there. Yeah if Enzo got bored or was upset his handler was gone he’d just escape and try to find him.😂 his nickname is Enzo the Escapee

Iv never had him around babies before. I do train with him, just obedience training. He's really good in the home. He has a great off switch and is very calm in the house. Do you think maybe you could do a video or if you just have any advice on how to introduce him to the baby? Or rules for him that I should set right away when baby gets here? Thank you so much for replying back 💕

    I watched several malinois videos and 90% of the owners complain about this breed. I am asking myself. Why own a dog if I will suffer with him for the next 15 years and plus spend so much money feeding him high quality food + healthcare etc.

    Give them DMG it's really good for them to help get more oxygen into the cells and speed up muscle recovery

    I must say you are really giving out poor information to people. I have 6 Malinois's. I have had at least 1 over the past 15 years. I was a dog trainer the last 3 years I was in the military. These dogs for the most part are not any different than any other breed such as the GSD, Dobbies, rottweilers.I have trained my dogs to be placid in the house at all times. They do play some but know when enough is enough. They are always loving and Semper Fi. They love to just hang out and keep my wife and myself pleased with them. They are natural protectors without any training. They tend to sense a bad person or a threat. When they were pup's they destroyed as much as they could but I trained them out of that very rapidly. Today they destroy nothing. I can leave them without a crate. They do no harm to the house, with the exception of a pillow on the floor. My trick to keeping them from going 100 miles per hour is I just sit and talk to them. They get more than enough mental stimuli that way. They take turns all day putting their heads on my leg and I talk to them. My Vet bills are not that bad. The only time they get hurt is when that have an argument and I am on that instantly and they stop. They have had a few stitches but nothing major. They are Mal's so they will bark at a leaf blowing down the street but that is just the breed. When they go potty, they blast around the back yard for about 5 minutes then potty and want to go back inside.Like any breed, they can be trained for anything. That includes just being dogs and enjoying their lives. To be honest I use to have GSD's and had way more issues from them.You are not special because you have Mal's. I know a lot of breeders and owners and they do not Think the Mal is a poor choice for any one. You get out of them what you put into them as puppies. They can be happy any way you want them to be as long as you show them love and a lot of attention.

      You sir, are so clueless I don’t even know where to begin… so I won’t. Have a lovely day with your “placid” Malinois who just like to “hang out and please you” and are “naturally protective without any training” 🤣
