Kinda late to this video but just wanted to say that this guy definitely deserves more viewers than he has now. I can't say the editing and the overall quality is amazing, but the builds such as this one are really good, the explanations are on point and the build itself works perfectly throughout the game.
These videos are just amazing. The delivery and depth of the commentary is both entertaining and erudite. I enjoy them just as entertainment as much as for their value in learning the game. Thank you so much for all the work you obviously have put into these.
i’m one of those sickos who lost multiple honour runs in Divinity Original Sin 2 (around 3 or 4, 60+ hours lost yay) but managed to beat it in the end (3 of my characters died the first turn of the final boss, best adrenaline-fueled experience of my life). can’t wait to do it again for BG3 using your builds!
Loving all the bg3 guides. As someone fairly new to d&d, hearing from someone knowledgeable has been incredibly helpful. It’d be awesome if you could make a power build for shadowheart and wyll at some point in the near future. Keep up the great work!
Hey, thanks so much for the support! I really appreciate it :D Clerics are so inherently powerful that pretty much all builds for them are power builds :P More warlock builds coming soon!
FInally got a chance to actually log into youtube and sub / like your videos. I've been using you as my go-to for BG3 builds lately. Even though I am in my 2nd playthrough with over 350 hours already, I still learn new things from you!
for cantrips shocking grasp is really good as a second damaging cantrip, not only is it good damage but if an enemy closes distance with gale he can give em the ol tazer to the balls and then they can't make an attack of opportunity.
Just saying that i love your content and your builds, i'm a newbie but your guides healped my playthrough A LOT I also love that you explain the choices inside the building instead of justing saying "pick this and that", timestamps is good to use but don't stop doing it thank you!❤
I'm about to finish my Tactician playthrough and all my companions are using your previous, Lore-friendly builds. Not mentally ready for Honour Mode, but I'll definitely be using these new Lore builds when I try it.
Thanks for the builds Ceph, your guides are my favorites. I know you have mentioned not liking them in the past, but I would love to see your take on a build that focuses on minions ie Necromancer or Spore Druid etc.
22:40 I remember being flabbergasted to find this out. I think I dumped like 100 damage into a street thug in Act 3 not anticipating how it would compound.
While this is all good for most general encounters, scorching ray upcast + battlemage's elixir + arcane acuity gear (e.g. the Hat of Fire Acuity), is a crazy powerful combo for him, as well.
I still remember in Wrath of the Righteous my first time in the final battle of chapter 1 I greased my whole team except Lann and Daeran. Then after we won the battle they were all still stuck on the ground and I had to wait 10 real life minutes. Even Woljif who casted the spell and had +14 to reflex saving throws was stuck until the grease despawned. Then people are saying they are going to do a play of my character and how heroic he was in defeating the demons when he was laying on the ground covered in grease doing nothing. So yeah not surprised friendly fire is biggest cause of player death lol.
Firebolt and Ray of Frost also have great utility, especially in the early game where igniting fire surfaces is so strong, and when getting rid of fire surfaces is a huge (and resource free) quality of life. The trifecta for an act 1 wizard is firebolt, ray of frost, and minor illusion.
True! For lighting fire surfaces I think there's a lot of options that don't take a cantrip slot, so I wouldn't necessarily use firebolt for that, but it's *also* the best damage so there's good reasons to pick it up. Freezing water is the main appeal of ray of frost, since that's so powerful in BG3.
Such great content. I would love to see a vid of your top 3 party compositions so we can see how some of builds match up with others that goes a bit in to where to focus, eg, “this comp uses Halsin to maintain Haste which will free up Gale (or PC Sorc) to maintain on a more damaging spell like ____”. Keep up the great work ✌🏻
I know this is old but you can go 5 con 17 int, take resilient to put con at 16 and gain con saves and then go asi + hag hair for 20 int, much better spread.
I decided to double down on the Cold damage and "Encrusted with frost" and chose Duel Wielder for my feat and have Gale using both Markoheshkir and Mourning Frost and it is great the amount of damage he can dish out.
Part of me really feels like Gale should be Conjuration instead of Evocation, mainly because we’re told he conjured Tara when he was still fairly young, and making a Tressym that speaks humanoid languages is supposed to be really difficult to pull off. Not a knock on this build, of course; you could honestly argue pretty much any subclass for him, given his background.
Do you have any interest in doing a gear progression guide for Honour Mode? Most of the content I've seen on builds gives ideas for end game, but not a whole lot for what content to do when to get your characters appropriately geared. If anyone else in the comments has seen something like this already, please let me know.
Control them and talk to withers. Ask to change your class. It will set you back to level one (with enough xp to automatically level up to where you originally were) and allow you to change your attributes and starting class. He'll charge you a hundred gold btw.
Yes to both! My personal favorite is divination ("The best wizard in baldur's gate 3") though abjuration is also extremely strong, especially late game ("The invincible tank wizard"). Then there's the secret 9th wizard school, Cleric ("The REAL best wizard in bg3")
Hey guys, could you help me? Why in this build the Wizard have for skills: Sleight of Hand, Arcana, History, Investigation, Insight. And in my Gale as a Wizard it has: Arcanism, History, Investigation, Religion and Persuasion? Why are this skills different for the same class? thanks!
Hey love you vids but just my opinion I think if you have timestamps for you vids it would help more someone in your comments did that and it’s extremely helpful but still love your vids
Why are you advocating for honor mode fireball over lightning bolt? Wet condition doubles damage of targets. Also advocating for 4th level spells how are you increasing the damage of wall of fire to be more worthwhile than haste?
Haste is easy enough to get from other sources without tying up your concentration. Better to twin-cast haste with a sorcerer instead of using it on a wizard anyway IMO, but it all depends on your party comp. Wall of Fire is a good option, and as mentioned it can solve certain encounters entirely on its own (but so can other spells like a Light Cleric with Radiance of Dawn and Spirit Guardians so party comp matters immensely).
While fixing odd numbered stats on someone recently I wondered if they are just weird or if you are supposed to split the points from ability improvement between two of them and then dump the durable feat on the third because Constitution seems to be an odd number often. Not that it makes much sense for a character you level up from the start because those feats will take you a long time to reach ... still couldn't help wonder if there is a method to the madness/waste.
There are some builds that want to do that! It's usually better to still take the even numbers and then respec when you hit the feats that boost by 1, since then you get a higher bonus for longer though.
It's definitely an option, though since you probably need to be level 3 or 4 to kill him consistently, you won't really get a lot of use out of it before you'd want to raise your int anyways.
How would one use ice surfaces in a way that synergizes well with a Barbarian or other melee character in your party (in a way that doesn't hamper your own party)?
The easiest way is to just equip the boots that makes them immune to ice surfaces - other than that, consider where you want to place your allies, and place the ice surface where your ally will be able to stand outside its area and still hit enemies within it. Also use it on melee enemies who haven't yet closed the distance - that will force them to run towards you, potentially falling.
3:52~ Can someone explain to me why my Gale has a +6 in Arcana instead of +5 like his does...? Same stats and all that. I mean, obviously it's not like a big deal or anything; I'm honestly just curious why it would be different at all. Is it because of the "floating skill point" that he's referring to? Because if so I see no option to redistribute it anywhere... not that I would, really. Gale isn't my main, so generally speaking his skills don't matter _too_ much to me. Like I said, just curious. Thanks! :)
If you're level 1 with a +6 in Arcana it's probably from an item - does he have the Mage's Friend ring equipped? If you're higher level it's likely because your proficiency bonus or intelligence increased - your skill bonus is your ability score modifier plus your proficiency bonus, so here we have +5 because we have 16 int (+3 bonus) and +2 proficiency - at level 5 your proficiency goes up to +3, and then to +4 at level 9
@@Cephalopocalypse You know what's funny? Well, actually two things are lol: One, I was literally *just* watching another video of yours when I noticed your reply (it was an updated Karlach ~ Wildheart (Tiger) Barbarian build) - and two, yes, you're right: it _was_ because of the "Mage's Friend" ring... so I feel like an idiot for not noticing that lol. Although in my defense, my game seems to have "glitched" somehow where I'm still getting the +1 to Arcana and Religion... but Gale is not wearing the ring anymore, and wasn't at the time I asked this question lol. This game is just silly sometimes, man 😅 But thank you for replying to me! I'm a big fan 😊
Wish I could do this. My dumb dumb brain has to have them as their main lass in some form. I've had Shadowheart a Tempest Cleric/Storm Sorc. My Gale is a mix of light cleric/sorc/evocation wiz. Hell, made Minthara a Bardadin since she has her spider lyre. I just can't see them outside of their main classes
Explain to me what is this hate for crown of madness. Absolutely broken spell that is even more disgusting on sorcerers. A level two spell that is still relevant late game. Send one enemy into chaos inevitably causing all their allies around them to attack them to… for three turns! Get spell save up and it is a broken spell. Humanoid yes but that’s never been a problem for me. Prepare another spell if you know a fight coming up does bot include humanoids.
Using one of the game's highest damage dealers as utility and claiming that Wizards deal no damage is absurd. For utility, employ Shadowheart as a Cleric Healer with utility skills, rather than compromising a magic DPS for that role. Gale's AOE damage and Crowd Control can be incredibly effective in the end game if built correctly. This video is not the way...
