Love your videos Gerald & Bill. Gerald is my brother-in-law and I just love looking at pictures of my beautiful Newfoundland , Just wish I could be home to see the beautiful Ocean and scenery. Stay safe and enjoy your boat. xxxxx Miss you and Linda lots & lots. Keep making your videos, Love them.
been watching your all your great videos ...again and again - lately on our tv (big screen) and they really stand up and stand out! But the reason for my additional comment here is your song "...when I look out on the blue Atlantic Ocean..." on you 'Overnight Sail from Dildo to Chance Cove' video. I'll admit it makes me bawl every time. Absolutely beautiful song and beautifully done!!! It's right up there with "Let e fish off Cape St. Mary's" and I know what I'm talking about. I was /am a musician and was in in the music business (clubs, concerts and recording) for some 20 years back in the late 60's to late 80's. Listening to it I'm certain you are or were a professional yourself. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but it's likely you have more tunes and hopefully we'll all get to hear them sooner or later. Thanks again for these wonderful videos! cheers.
Sorry, I'm just seeing this now. Well my gosh, I don't know what to say. I wrote that song and recorded in my basement about 20 + years ago, and just slipped it into the video because I thought it kinda fit. your very kind comments are deeply appreciated. Thanks so much.
Yes my son, this is some good!!! my lovely wife and I bought a B25 (Bayfield 25 with a Yanmar YSE8) a couple of years ago and been having a great time in eastern Lake Ontario. But my dream is to get back to the 'Rock'. You're a lucky pair of buddies be where you're to! (if yours is a YSE8, she sounds good too. cheers and I look forward to more of your adventures on those beautiful grey waters.
Thanks Fred. My boat has the Fire 7 engine which is a 2 stroke gas engine. It's the original engine that they put in the earlier models of the 23/25. I'm not sure how long the boats were in production before they switched to the diesel. If you ever get back on the rock, be sure and visit Dildo. Lots of things to do here in the summer months. Thanks for connecting.
This is great stuff.....I grew up with so many east coasters and ya can't get a better bunch.....been living outside of Canada for over 40 years but my best buds were from Newfoundland.
Thanks. I recorded that song in 2002ish. I wrote it for a songwriting contest at the time. Didn't win but anyway... lol. Me and your Pa are having fun making these videos. Glad you enjoy them. And, of course, out sailing and knocking around with him all the time is the best part lol.
Brilliant work, boys. The small line inside the sail is the "leech line" and it looks like you already figured out what it's for. Keep up the fine work!
Thanks for the comment. That footage was real lol. That was actually the first time I noticed it. So much to learn still, but getting more confident. I'm hoping this summer to do more long trips.
This first overnight adventure is etched in my memory as one of the best days ever sailing! That 23/25 Bayfield sure took care of us despite our inexperience lol
You old guys are having way to much fun for your age! White caps says 14 to 15 mile wind, wind over 12, tighten your sails so you can see no wrinkles for a much flatter sail.
Agreed. I have to install some winches before next season so I can get the sails tighter. I watched one of your videos, and the teak on your boat looks great. Did you use oil of varnish?
@@newfoundsailing There is no easy way; oil has to be applied a couple times a season, varnish a couple coats every season or if you watch my videos, I keep all teak covered with canvas when not in use and even then I have to apply a couple coats every 3 years!
The title caught my eye, then I remembered I'd heard of this town before. Still, my (warped) brain wondered if you have to bring batteries when you go there.

Good to hear from you Mary. You definitely should come back sometime, and get Gerald to take you sailing. Take care. Bill

You're gonna have to come to NL for a visit sometime.
Beautiful song Uncle. Your voice is golden.

For sure. However, looking up and seeing one of the starboard stays dangling in thin air was a bit of a rush lol. But we got it back on somehow.
Great video!
Thanks Juanita. We'll go sailing the next time you're around these parts.
Thanks for throwing in some locations, now I can Google them. Ah yes, the leech cord is good for old sails or high winds.
My sails are indeed old. May have to keep my eyes open for a newer set.

@@newfoundsailing Paint shop at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum told me to use Flagship varnish, 13 coats min.
@@svwatercolors1291 That sounds like a lot of work. I might have to go with a teak oil or something that requires less maintenance. Thanks

Keep going chaps. great to see.
Thanks Ray. We appreciate the comment.
