Hello friend. I recommend Oculus Quest 2. It is a standalone VR headset with 6 degrees of freedom and is much better than Gear VR or any other phone VR headset.
That's cool! The newer Gear VR has the remote controller, and also has a larger view (same FOV but it's like looking at a bigger screen). But in terms of tracking accuracy, it is the same.
the Gear VR is only has a usable resolution of 1080 x 1080, which is lower than the Oculus Go/Quest and does make a significant difference in terms of pixel density and how the image is displayed. Does not matter that you have 2k, 3k or 4k display. Samsung Gear VR is not the best choice, but if you have already a Samsung phone then go get Gear Vr its cheap.
Hi Razer Blade. Re 1080 x 1080 for gear vr, i haven't seen any evidence for that claim except one blog that has made many erroneous statements in the past. I have s6, had s8+, have s10+, and they all have similar resolution to the Go, even though Go is slightly sharper. I also recently watched Insta360 Titan 10K 3D 360 videos in Insta360 Moment app. Oculus Go struggled and had heavy stuttering. My Gear VR with S10+ was able to play the 10K video without problems. Oculus Quest unfortunately couldn't sideload the app (app crashed). So you can conclude whether what I say about Gear VR's processor advantage is true.
@@360vroomers because new exynos can play 8k 240 fps and snap 855 8k 120fps and obviously both units can go for 10k plus at lower fps i used s7 and pixels were visible not as sharp as on oculus quest, quest is not perfect but its much better than gear vr
i bought gear VR and biggest concern I have is the pixelated/back door screen. I have s9+ about 520ppi, I heard s9 is better with its 590ppi. this pixelated image is a deal breaker for me and the only decision factor I will make will be based on this. I heard quest is not perfect in this, so I will wait. I head there are some highend newcomers (varjo) offering high resolution experience, but they are either for corporates or are only under development. so there is nothing really for me to choose from now. I also won't buy any PC based headsets as I am on mac, but also I don't require high end graphics for gaming, but I want sharp image....so again, VR is still just starting, so will wait for now. Another issue I have is that there are LIMITED APPS, and LACK OF EDUCATIONAL APPS thereof in oculus store to my surprise. There so much potential in education through real life situations/simulators yet I can't find any apps, like there is only 1 app for anatomy.....
Hi Martin! If screendoor is your concern, Quest is not such a huge improvement over Go. There is another headset that I hope to test that I think may be better but I'm still getting a hold of the manufacturer. cross my fingers... hoping I'll be able to test it out!

Hi quadfly360. Sure you can use insta360 studio or gopro VR viewer. Both of them have a feature for exporting a framegrab from a video. if the view is equirectangular then the framegrab can be used as a 360 photo
Hi Shetaut. Not yet, because most 360 cameras take 360 photos where you can look around but not move around. Even if you have a 6dof headset such as Quest or Rift or Vive, you won't be able to move around "yet". I say "yet" because there is technology to convert a series of 360 photos into a single 3d model where you can walk around. This is called photogrammetry, but it is still being developed, so the models are kind of rough. But in a few years, 360 photos and videos will be converted into a 360 photo where you can walk around. Check out this video demo of a true 6DOF model where you can walk around: ruclips.net/video/MDyNo1ihPwg/видео.html

@Ed Ducate Hi Ed. I don't have Note 8 but I believe there is a version of Gear VR that is compatible with Note 8 called SM-R325. I just haven't tried it with Note 8.
Hi Lexii. Gear VR is only for Samsung phones and it’s already discontinued. In fact newer Samsung phones don’t say anything about gear vr. You will be much better off with oculus quest. It is way way way better than gear vr or oculus go.
Something very strange happened after I played on VR quest. I took a nap at my work I was very sleepy especially the past days so when I woke up I saw my office like a VR world I felt my hand and my brain was not attached to my body.. when I looked at my phone I felt like it is a VR phone and I am just waiting to remove that VR of my real world while I was not wearing a VR actually. First time to experience VR games in oculus quest this happened to me after 5 days ago I played 2 times a day each time 2.5 hours. The second time usually at night before going to sleep. Do U know why this happened?
This has happened to some people who are new to VR. It is because your brain is confused with VR, especially if it is tired. Maybe it is good to take a rest first.
@@360vroomers I wonder why oculus or VR companies dont talk about it that it is normal becuase at first I was scared as hell when I felt it. Another question if u dont mind when connecting the quest to PC through cable and playing games what is the over all comparison between that and the stand alone also the PSVR? I never tried it.
Its annoying about the oculus gear VR that you often need a newer version after updating your phone. I had to do this a couple of times in a couple of years. I cant use my current gear VR with my note 9 because you need a newer version with an adapter. I used my current gear VR with the s8 (former phone). Before this i had the s6 with another gear VR without USB-C. I couldnt use this gear VR with the s8. I had to buy a new one. In this case i think of buying the oculus go.
Hi Chris. Yes the need for an adapter is a bit annoying. You can call samsung and they will send you the note 9 adapter for free but it takes a couple of weeks.
Yes, its very annoying. Especially because i had to buy a new gear vr after having a new phone. In that case its even cheaper to buy the oculus go because i dont need a phone. I can use it for years then. I cant use my gear VR SM-SE24 with the note 9. I need to buy the SE25 and also order the adapter. It sucks.
i got Gear Vr i had to buy an adapter to use s10 plus usb type c, it worked well on s7 so i had to buy an adapter from amazon to use my new phone, quality is not so good as on oculus go and quest tho
You cant go wrong with a Oculus Go its brilliant for media. If you want for games though wait for the Quest. That said the GO dose have alot of decent games. So for £200 you wont be dissapointed. Im not keen on the headsets you have to put your phone in its just a headfu* if your phone rings.
Thanks Honey Badger! You're right Oculus Go is awesome for viewing videos and photos. I think Quest will be even better with its more powerful Snapdragon 835 processor. Both are great options for media, depending on budget! Thanks again! BTW you can turn off notifications to avoid getting a call while you're fighting zombies in VR :D

Thanks Amir! Yes you can play your own VR videos on these headsets. Between the two, I suggest Oculus Go or Oculus Quest because they are faster to use quickly. So you'll be able to review your photos and videos more quickly. That means you'll also be able to improve faster.

If it is a 360 video, then either Gear VR or Daydream View would work, although Gear VR tracking is a bit better than Daydream View. Also, Daydream is a deadend. Google has given up on Daydream.

@@GrayTeam83 Hey there Neil. Gear VR is cheap now because the ecosystem is pretty much on life support. If you don't mind and just want to dabble in VR, you can certainly try it but it will only work with compatible Samsung phones. Re Rift S, I think it's still quite good as long as you don't mind the cables. For example, some games don't need you to rotate around. But if you will be playing games that involve rotating around, having a wireless headset makes a big difference for immersion. PC VR is not even a factor because Quest and Quest 2 can now play PC VR too. Here is a comparison 360rumors.com/oculus-quest-2-vs-rift-s-oculus-link-wireless-pc-vr-tutorial/
Hi Batcoh! I didn't include desktop VR in this comparison. But PSVR is also a good way to experience VR. But to be honest, its tracking is not as good as Rift or Vive or even Windows Mixed Reality. But the advantage of PSVR is that it has more games than Windows Mixed Reality :)
hey man, few days ago, I bought gear vr for my s9+, and it's a great experience, but I am not happy with resolution.....which headset that don't require PC would be the best choice for pleasing the eye? I dont require gaming ability....thanks
Hi Martin. wow good timing! I just got Oculus Quest. It is the highest resolution standalone VR headset right now (1600 x 1440 per eye). I will be posting a review soon. To be honest, it is only a little bit sharper than Gear VR (1280 x 1440 per eye). If you really want super high resolution, you need HP Reverb (2160 x 2160 per eye), but it is connected to a PC and needs a very powerful GTX 1080 graphics card.
Mick, Another great video! I'm excited about the Oculus Quest, but I haven't heard if you can sideload your own 360 photos and videos to it. I really want a headset that I can watch the content I create. And after seeing your video about making your own 3D 180 content, I don't want to get a headset that doesn't support it. That's one of the reasons I didn't get the Lenovo Mirage. It has internal storage, but I heard you can't sideload your own content and watch it on the device. It may be too early for this question, but have you heard if the Oculus Quest will allow you to sideload your created 180 and 360 content into its internal storage and watch? Thanks again for this great video! vgv
thanks vgv. I don't have quest yet but i believe you can sideload content the same way as go, i.e., by renaming the file to end with _360_TB or _360_BT or _360_LR or _360_RL to designate it as top-bottom, bottom-top, left-right or right-left format. You can also use _180_LR.
Mick, Thanks for getting back with me! I can't wait to see your review of the Quest! If it can indeed sideload my created content, I'll be getting one! I did have a Go when they first came out, but I could never get it to activate with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, so I ended up sending it back. Oculus technicians thought it might have been a conflict with the Gear VR or Gear360 app at the time. I wasn't about to give up either one, because I love my Samsung 360 camera. But of course, after watching your videos, and cameras that do the 3D 180 videos, I'm soon going to be stepping up my game and getting one you recommend. Good to know about the file renaming, since it sounds like it's essential. I'm sure you have a sideloading video and I'll be using that if the Quest ends up being able to showcase our AMAZING self created content. Thanks again Mick! Very happy to be a subscriber to your channel! vgv
great video, thank you so much. ive been looking to upgrade my phone and one of my priorities was to be able to view VR videos, and to show them to the patients i work with who might benefit from it. so i was favouring a galaxy S9 or 10, but then i really dont like the curved screen and they reportedly dont have great battery life, cos of the higher rez screen which really only comes in handy for VR, so now im thinkin i should just go for the quest and prioritise other things for my new phone.
As you know I love your videos, so as an audio guy I would like to make one small suggestion that would make them even better. They all sound muffled to some degree. It is either the mike or the processing in post that you are doing. Don't roll off so much top end. If you are not rolling off top end then you should try adding some or try changing the placement or even another mike. When you get it right you will hear the difference. my best robert
Thank you very much Robert. I really appreciate the feedback (no pun intended). The sound is muffled because I'm using a lav mic. What do you think of that scene where I was sitting on a couch? Did that sound better? For that one I used a shotgun mic. I haven't been using one bec it picks up more background noise than my lav mic, but let me know what you think. Alternatvely, I could try editing the sound from my audio to add more treble (no i haven't been editing the sound except to adjust the volume). Best regards, Mic
Hi Mic, yes the couch scene is a little better. I must say that I see a lot of lavs used that are not muffled. Try brightening just a little bit around 4-7k range or treble as you call it I think you will be pleased. my best robert
@@rappere11 Thanks Robert. I'll try to use a shotgun mic next time. I used to have a Rode Smartlav but two of them have died on me. Now the one I'm using another brand. maybe i'll use a different mic placement

There is another headset that I hope to test that I think may be better but I'm still getting a hold of the manufacturer. cross my fingers... hoping I'll be able to test it out!
the Gear VR is only has a usable resolution of 1080 x 1080. So your 3k screen wont make any difference so yeah Quest and Go are better choice
Hi @360Rumors ,
I am planning to buy Oclus Quest VR Headset
I want your review, feedback.
Is it suitable for my need/requirement.
I am looking for VR Tour of Real Estate Properties
Hi Classic Enterprises. Yes Quest is a very good headset for VR tours of real estate. And you can bring it anywhere with no need to bring your PC.
Hey man...I have a Note 9 and was wondering which version of the Gear VR would you recommend? I will only watch videos with the gear vr.
Hi Blue. I recommend the latest version. You'll need a USB Type C adapter for your Note 9. You can request it through Samsung.
I have a Gear VR, Samsung S10, Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S. Loving the videos. I just fired up my old Gear VR for the last time I'm handing it down to my sister. Hopefully shell catch the VR bug
Nice! It's always fun to see our family and friends discover VR 😄
Hi. Just a wee question nothing to do with your video please. Do you know any app that can help me take a still from a ThetaV video?
Hi quadfly360. Sure you can use insta360 studio or gopro VR viewer. Both of them have a feature for exporting a framegrab from a video. if the view is equirectangular then the framegrab can be used as a 360 photo

Question: would the oculus quest be good for viewing 360 pictures and moving around within them?

Does it work for a 6.8 inch phone?
@@360vroomers yes I should take a rest but it won't be permanently right?
@@0509080190 No, don't worry it's not permanent. Just get a rest. It does happen sometimes to those new to VR.
It sucks.
fwiw the oculus go is currently discounted to $169 (previously $199)...
i got Gear Vr i had to buy an adapter to use s10 plus usb type c, it worked well on s7 so i had to buy an adapter from amazon to use my new phone, quality is not so good as on oculus go and quest tho
@@romansm3682 i have the oculus go now and i am happy with it. I noticed there is a way to up the resolution of the oculus go.

@Jonas Quinn hmm were you playing the VRB format videos or mp4? re higher resolution on oculus go, you mean it will play higher resolution video, or you mean higher display resolution? Bec both the Go and my phone are 2560 x 1440 so i don't understand why the go would have higher reso
Hi Mic, may I know if the Samsung gear VR and google daydream view can play our own VR video? Another question is that between these two VR devices, which is better for sports. I mean using VR to learn skills execution. Btw, informative review!
Thanks Amir! Yes you can play your own VR videos on these headsets. Between the two, I suggest Oculus Go or Oculus Quest because they are faster to use quickly. So you'll be able to review your photos and videos more quickly. That means you'll also be able to improve faster.
@@360vroomers What about between Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream view? I am going to use it not instantly but a sort of training purposes which I can view professional athlete execute a skill (e.g. archery shooting) and then I will try to mimic the action.
Hi Amir. How will you watch the training? Is it an app or is it a 360 video? If it is an app, then I would choose the headset that has the best app for your specific sport training. If it is a 360 video, then either Gear VR or Daydream View would work, although Gear VR tracking is a bit better than Daydream View. Also, Daydream is a deadend. Google has given up on Daydream.

Hey there Rick! If you wont edit photos, use insta360vr app to connect directly to the one x. If you will edit, then after editing the photo copy the photo to the oculus go and view in oculus gallery app.

@@360vroomers @360Rumors where abouts would you put the rift within the 2 quest's? I wish I had a Samsung to get a gear vr because they're dirt cheap compared, now I'm not sure if that is due to the discontinuing or they're just more affordably priced? I've got a Huawei p40 Pro, I made that fatal mistake of diving head first to upgrade from my p20, so I'm taking it alot steadier when it comes to Vr headsets lol
Here is a comparison 360rumors.com/oculus-quest-2-vs-rift-s-oculus-link-wireless-pc-vr-tutorial/

hey man, few days ago, I bought gear vr for my s9+, and it's a great experience, but I am not happy with resolution.....which headset that don't require PC would be the best choice for pleasing the eye? I dont require gaming ability....thanks
Hi Martin. wow good timing! I just got Oculus Quest. It is the highest resolution standalone VR headset right now (1600 x 1440 per eye). I will be posting a review soon. To be honest, it is only a little bit sharper than Gear VR (1280 x 1440 per eye). If you really want super high resolution, you need HP Reverb (2160 x 2160 per eye), but it is connected to a PC and needs a very powerful GTX 1080 graphics card.
Mick,
Another great video!
Mick,
Thanks for getting back with me!
Very happy to be a subscriber to your channel!

great video, thank you so much. ive been looking to upgrade my phone and one of my priorities was to be able to view VR videos, and to show them to the patients i work with who might benefit from it. so i was favouring a galaxy S9 or 10, but then i really dont like the curved screen and they reportedly dont have great battery life, cos of the higher rez screen which really only comes in handy for VR, so now im thinkin i should just go for the quest and prioritise other things for my new phone.
Thanks buddy. Yes you're right. Also, samsung gear vr support ends sept 15. So it is dead. The good news is as you said we can choose phones freely 😄

Hi Light Light. It's possible that there's condensation. Try to have a fan blow at your Gear VR while you use it.
