I can concur, the effect seems to be very similar to playing certain old games for a long time. Like SW Dark Forces. I think it's the eye strain not the motion, though in VR you have eye strain and disorientation. (I suddenly want to play VR portal).
..I know its not for everybody, I havent had many issues with being sick, but also confirmed by my friends, glass of beer makes everything much easier...
I would suggest ThrillSeeker's advice for VR, my favorite being: 1. mount a pulley system in your room so that the HMD cable is above you instead of under your feet. 2. get a circular 1m (3 feet) diameter rug instead of the chaperone thing to get a better hold of your play area.
If you calculate your viewing angle of your monitor and then compare it to VR, you'll find that the pixels per degree (PPD) in your field of vision can be less than half of a monitor. That's why when I got the Reverb G2, I actually expected to have very low resolution. But I was surprised. Due to the lack of screendoor effect, the resolution and level of detail actually felt higher than I expected. Yes, it's not as sharp as a monitor, and you can see shimmering in object edges, but in a way the resolution feels "infinite". And reading even small text is no problem.
Just taken my first leap into VR with a quest 2 a few days ago, I'd used my friend's OG rift and index before and was very impressed with the index, but last week I managed to snag a 128gb quest 2 for £200 (well, £250 with a £50 amazon voucher). Really impressed so far. There's definitely room for improvement when it comes to comfort, but I can't fault it for the price. I wish it had the index's FOV, but again, price. Wireless PCVR on the other hand is a pretty liberating experience. My friend has her index set up with cable pulleys, which is better than tripping over the cable, but you still have to worry about accidentally hanging yourself if you turn around too much, which is a bit of an immersion breaker to say the least. The freedom of movement with airlink is really nice.
Yeah but with the quest 2 you should know that you can get the "pro" headstrap which gives you extra battery for headless mode and allows the cable going to your pc to be routed better... not to mention it is more comfortable. That is the next upgrade I'm getting though is the headstrap as the one it comes with is garbagio.
@@Dimondminer11 yeah, I guess by room for improvement I meant that there are options available. The official elite strap isn't usually recommended due to durability issues, but I think a lot of the third party straps don't have that issue. I'm currently using one of those D strap things that attaches to the back of the stock strap, it works pretty well once you've got it adjusted properly, even better with a power bank attached to the back to act as a counterweight.
My first VR headset was the Oculus Rift (first Retail version). At some point I switched to a Pimax 5k XR. Later I got the Index Bundle like you did and used Watchdogs dongles since then (Steam Controller Dongles with modified Firmware to be used for the Index Controllers to switch between Lighthouse Headsets without rebinding). Now I have a 8kx since a few days, best resolution of my headsets, bigger FOV than Index.
Just bought an oculus for my son for Xmas so I had to click this video and hear your impressions. Shaved head with the beard looks great on you, dude! Worthy upgrade for the better cooling performance
At least it's not oddly shaped. I have an HP g2 and love it even for 3d movies. You do build up a tolerance to motion sickness. I will agree the G2 controllers are not as good as the index controllers. edit: the g2 resolution is what I would consider the min in resolution to not see screen door effect.
Its more about Pixel Density than actual resolution. Because you are looking at the screen through a lens that acts basically as a magnifying glass SO no matter how high the res is from a standard viewing distance you will see in between the pixels which is what creates the screen door effect. If you put your face up to a 4k or higher res TV you can sort of see the pixels then you add magnification and yeah its hard not to focus on it... But anyway we will be seeing CHEAP headsets that will advertise High Res displays soon enough so be mindful of what's a marketing ploy and what's legit advances in technology.
@@ethanvalentine4299 Yeah I know, when I said resolution I specifically mentioned the G2 as a reference as such meaning its screen size also. It is somewhat common to say resolution and others (hopefully understand) I do have an Associates Degree in Electronics. But yes we should be using "ppi density" but no one does, probably because you also would need to know the screen size and FOV (vertical and horizontal) for any comparably. So the resolution is just the most relatable to people. FOV is also really subjective to the individual. So yes min g2 res BUT I would like a higher FOV also meaning the res to stay at ≈ the same ppi it would need to have a higher resolution. Thanx the info might help someone. With so many different IPDs and head shapes and glasses/not distance from the screen, not sure there will ever be a "standard" way to compare HMDs. We will always have companies fudging the numbers, we see that with FOV now.
Your part about screen door is just you seeing the pixel layout and not the screen door effect. You should try an HTC Vive if you ever get the chance, it's screen door is horrid and completely different than just pixels being laid out in a grid. SDE is talking about the black lines that show up on OG OLED pixel layouts with loads of black inbetween the pixels.
One of my favorite VR programs is the movie theatre. After a few minutes I forget I'm in a small room, and really feel i'm watching movies in a theatre.
I'll add another data point to the motion sickness thing. tl;dr: Never had motion sickness - same goes for VR. I've never really had trouble with motion sickness. Reading in a car, driving backwards in a train, traveling by boat or plane, standing in the joint of an articulated bus, on a roller coaster - no issues. I get a little butterflies-in-the-stomach kind of feeling from low/negative g-forces (lurches in a plane, roller coasters), but the exciting kind, nothing bad. Normal usage of my Index doesn't trouble me at all. When I first turned on analog-stick movement in Alyx it messed with my sense of balance, but didn't make me sick. While standing still I'm now completely fine balance wise, nowadays it's just moving in real life while also moving with the analog stick that messes with my balance. Also, climbing ladders was pretty weird at first, but is now mostly fine. Again, I don't get sick, it's just a bit disorienting. For example, when moving with the analog stick and not keeping my feet planted on the ground I might make a recovery step as if the ground had started moving beneath me. I think the only issue I might have in VR is one of muscle tenseness. I'm a bit overweight and VR is actually my main physical activity now (in particular the one to two hour Beat Saber sessions I have somewhat regularly) (also, I really need to get my bicycle fixed - although, I'm getting my first 3D printer delivered probably tomorrow, and the trouble I have is that the plastic shell of my front light is shattered...), so maybe it's just a lack of fitness... but I get slightly sweaty and notice muscle fatigue after about an hour of Alyx, even when keeping my actual movement minimal. I'm pretty sure I can move quite a bit more in real life doing real life things without experiencing that kind of strain (particularly the muscle fatigue), so I think the analog movement is still causing some minor muscle tensing because my sense of balance is being messed with, even if it's no longer obvious. Naturally, Beat Saber exhausts me a lot more, but when I'm playing Beat Saber I'm fully intending to take a shower afterwards. When I choose to play things like Alyx I don't really intend to do so, but sometimes I cut my session short just so I won't have to. Looking on the bright side (which is something I really recommend), I could do with more exercise, so it's all good^^.
First of all I like the hair... or lack there of it looks good on you. Also, I have never used an index but I did get a quest 2 in January and absolutely love it. VR is amazing and as technology advances we are going to see VR/AR everywhere! BTW quest 2 has no screen door effect... at least not noticeable to me and when I used my brothers rift s there was a significant screen door effect.... so I mean the index is the best for many many reasons but if you know someone with a Quest 2 check it out see how it feels for you or if you just have $300 for a second HMD but with the amount of filament you go through idk.... lol anyway I have seen VR enthusiast reviews but seeing a comparison from an average VR user like you would be really cool for a future video. ;)
I got my first VR setup a little over a year ago just for iRacing and had never tried VR before that either. I've never been sea sick and that didn't even cross my mind of being an issue. The first time I used it I immediately felt sick to my stomach and had a headache for the rest of the night. I waited over a week to try it again but it wasn't too bad the second time and I played for about 45 minutes. It's been totally fine since then. I went with the Oculus Rift 2 because I wasn't too sure how often I would use it, which turns out not often at all. I do however love using it and 7.1 surround headphones in the Big Screen app to watch movies and youtube in my own 'theater." I think that alone makes it worth it.
I've had the OG rift, rift S, and currently have an index with KatVR loco S motion sensors. Most of my gaming time is beatsaber, but I do really enjoy the immersion that VR brings to other games which makes it that much more enjoyable than normal gaming. The biggest downfall of VR for me is that it's hard to get friends into it due to floor space restrictions and hardware requirements - the quest has been helpful in at least getting wife/girlfriend approval for some by not having cables everywhere.
As a mostly bald guy who also shaves his head and keeps a full beard, I find the best way to deal with baldness is to simply own it. I don't have to style, wash, or groom my hair at all. I have learned to love it, and as long as you don't give in to societal ideals of vanity, you will too. It's much more efficient. Even if they offered an easy, 100% effective medication to regrow hair, I wouldn't bother. Also, I have a Samsung Odyssey+, and it's been an awesome experience. I don't get motion sickness, or experience the screen door effect. So, even if you can't spend $1000 on an Index, you can still get a very satisfactory VR experience for relatively cheap.
For me, I have quite a bit of motion sickness issues so I can't use a mobile device (phone, Switch, etc) in the car. I had issues with the first gen 3DS unless I looked at the screen a certain way and held the 3DS perfectly still which was impossible. Thankfully the 2nd gen 3DS "NEW 3DS" fixed that issue. I also can't look at first person view videos or selfie stick videos either. Even certain scenes on TV give me issues and I have to look away or close my eyes. In video games, if I look down from a significant height I get nauseous. I know it's just an image but it still affects me. My only other concern is not being able to see the real world and potentially injuring myself or breaking something. Also 3D setups that used Active Shutter glasses give me issues too.
bald guy telling why he picked X over Y without ever testing Y and even knowing what it's features mean, except that bigger number is better. love the channel.
As much as I love the Index. I wish the price came down after two years. If you don't have $1,000 to spend or don't want to buy a computer. Snag an Oculus Quest 2. If you want to do PCVR use Virtual Desktop or Oculus Link with a cable. AVOID AIR LINK! It sucks.
I've only had my quest 2 for a few days, but so far my experience with airlink has been pretty much faultless. I'm interested to see how virtual desktop compares though.
The screen door effect is magnified when looking at things that are far away. So things up close look really good but if you are trying to aim at something far away it looks like garbage.
I think I'm immune to motion sickness, I've never experienced it in my life. I frequently used the Daydream VR headset when being driven around in a car or bus so I was moving IRL, but differently to how I was moving in VR and apart from the minor annoyance of having to reset my orientation when the vehicle turned it was quite comfortable for me. I have also worked on a VR game and I wanted to see if I could induce motion sickness somehow so I turned off all our comfort settings, stood up in the car so my head was clearly above the roof turned 90 degrees to the direction of travel (which did mess with my balance a little) and had another developer constantly adjust the in-game IPD setting making it look like the entire world was growing and shrinking, it was super weird but no motion sickness. I love VR but have been stuck with the original Vive, I've been wanting to get the Index for years but it only "released" here recently but it always sells out before the release date so it isn't really released and I haven't been able to secure an order for one :(.
Never been motion sick, ever. Wild theme park rides, white water rafting, flight, drifting, you name it. Can't play VR for more than 10mins before I feel hot all over and generally unwell. If I don't stop there then I will get a pounding headache and other symptoms that won't go away for hours. No amount of use ever helped. I did find that if you train your eye balls to stop looking independent of your head, ie keep them straight ahead and move your head instead, even high motion games won't be so bad with motion sickness. Just not something I could get used to. The low resolution and general ugliness of the games make it a novelty, but nothing more for me unfortunately.
I absolutely echo your opinions and went through the same experiences, I have a quest 2 because the index wasn't available in my country but i've never regretted it. in saying that, to anyone with an quest DONT UPGRADE TO WIN 11, it breaks oculus link/airlink and i think to a degree, virtual desktop. no 'real' fixes yet.
3:30 I have a quest 2 and those controllers look WAY better than the reggo quest controllers. 4:21 The resolution of the quest 2 I bought is actually high enough resolution that the screen-door effect isn't as noticeable as it is 1832x1960 per eye. Honestly I really do like playing VR games as you indeed get a level of immersion that you can't get with a regular computer monitor. The quest 2, other than the facebook requirement (ARUGH) is amazing value at $300 and given that in PCVR mode you can do full res @ 120hz.... its great!
If you dig space and have a hotas, I'd suggest Elite Dangerous... kinda the euro truck simulator... but IN SPACE. But no, seriously... itll blow your mind.
There are a few headsets that are supposed to come out in the second half of next year that supposedly have almost completely eliminated the screen door effect. Problem being that they're extremely expensive at around 3000$
Yeah, I really don't think I could handle VR. From the little bits I've experienced, situations where the movement of my physical body matches that of my virtual body 1 - 1 is great, but the instant my virtual body takes off with out me I instantly feel horrible. Also you shaving your head makes you look almost exactly like JD from Gears of War, which to say is really good.
I personally went for the Reverb G2 over the Index. The higher FOV and refresh rate of the Index sound great, and of course the controllers were hard to pass up, but the resolution of the G2 is something I just had to have since I was intending to use it for games like DCS, MFS, and Assetto Corsa. It also didn't hurt that I got it at half the price of an Index kit and that I didn't want to worry about lighthouses. The resolution actually is pretty incredible. The screen door effect is almost non-existent. It definitely has visible sweet spots, but within those sweet spots it is as clear as could be. The controllers are kind of clunky and top heavy compared to the Quest controllers I was used to, but the shape of them is good and the button layout is familiar. Tracking was something I was a bit worried about, but thankfully it proved to be a pretty small issue. I would say it is roughly on par with Oculus inside out tracking, just better in some ways and worse in others. It lacks the precision you would want in a shooter, but it seems to handle fast movements much better than my Quest 1 does. I've been playing Beat Saber on my Quest a lot since I have been on the road a lot in the past few months, and I've gotten pretty decent at playing on Expert +. Unfortunately the Quest struggles to keep up, and I often times find myself missing notes that I am certain I should have hit. This never seemed to be an issue with the Reverb G2, though the controllers are noticeably much less ideal for the game. I've never gotten to use an Index, but I would love to be able to use those controllers for pretty much any VR game. Shooters and Beat Saber both seem like they would be perfect with the Knuckles controllers. Anyways though, I'm happy with my Reverb. It does exactly what I wanted it to, and I don't feel like it compromises too badly for a lower price and higher resolution.
best games for those who suffer from motion sickness are the ones where your character remains still and stuff come your way, for example beat saber. I am prone to motion sickness, never felt it in beat saber. superhot in the other hand is a nightmare
Great Video! Not sure if you're a boxing fan or not but if you are, give Thrill of the fight a shot. Its the whole reason why i got my VR headset and its probably the closest simulation you can get to boxing in real life that we have right now. Also congrats on the VR headset you got one of the nicest ones on the market!
the motion sickness thing is worse in driving games than in FPV shooters and such, because you cant feel the car moving. in the shooters, your body is moving around more, so it feels more natural. for some, shooters are a good way to get used to the feel of vr
Thanks I'm still in the wall with a Vive Cosmos. I won't do the Quest even though it's arguably good and inexpensive in comparison... So this provides some other food for thought!
I never used the Valve Index but I do I use the controllers which I used to use with my Vive for awhile. I mostly use my Quest 2 with PC wireless streaming now. The Index looks amazing and I am sure it's great but PCVR needs to release more high end content for it now. Development has shifted mainly to the Quest platform it seems.
I bought a Rift CV1 in 2017. Still haven't upgraded! I had a buddy with one and he showed me a pile of flight simulators trying to get me to buy one. I said "Neat, But not for me" . I am not a Flight Sim guy at all. Then one day we went over for dinner and he showed me Arizona Sunshine! 2 days later I had to buy a new gaming rig for $3700 and the Rift for $525. Talk about dumping cash! I am absolutely a FPS guy and Arizona sunshine sold me. My Favorite game of all time in VR is From Other Sun's. I hop on every once in a while still but not to many people play it anymore.
I know what you mean with needing to learn how to walk in VR When I tried the PSVR in a mall demo I needed to brace my leg against the chair behind me to not fall over when my body tried to counterbalance my forward "motion"
I only play VR sitting. I've had a stroke and my balance is a bit off so room-scale isn't really an option. I simrace (iRacing) and cannot race without VR any more. I've been playing in VR now since the original Rift CV1 (still using it).
Bold looks good. Question, why is HTC asking reviewers to do "VIVE, is it worth in 2021?"...perhaps the old "every advertisement is good advertisement?"
I just wish the headsets were much smaller and with much higher resolution. Still some years before the tech is where I'd like to see it. And right now the prices of these HMDs and of course the GPUs to drive them make this a pure luxury...
As long flatscreen games are the number 1 gaming format hardware will always be 1 step behind for VR because it has to produce twice the resolution and a left eye and right eye perspective. So people will always feel a little bit disappointed with it.
You really should give the Quest 2 a try for both standalone and PCVR. Its the only Headset I've tried where I can't see any screen door effect and... you know.. its $299 and you can play wireless PCVR lol grab yourself a set of controller grips with it and your good. Index controllers are amazing though and you can use Quest 2 Headset with Index controllers on PCVR
I've got the Rift and screen door sucks.. god rays are worse. But, once you do some racing in VR, just like flying, it's 1000% better than any monitor setup.
If anyone is hesitant because of motion sickness, try it first. I can barely sit in the back seat of the car without getting car sick. But for whatever reason, I can play vr indefinitely. I’ve only ever felt sick once, and that was the second time wearing the headset. I was in vr chat desperately trying to get used to “walking” in game, as vr chat’s teleporting movement is super awkward. But that was it. So just keep in mind that no matter how bad your motion sickness is, you might be perfectly fine in vr.
I've heard a lot of people say that VR and motion sickness is tied to the refresh rate a lot of times. I will also personally say that not even adding VR into the mix. Half-life 1 and 2 have made me sick just playing on a regular monitor (crt and lcd) and I think it's due to the engine and the way the environment is wrapped around you.
Some old versions of DLSS make me motion sick too, including the one that comes by default in Control, happy to discover I could swap them for newer ones anytime.
I can play almost all games, but HL 1 and 2 for some reason really get me. I do not remember the at happening though when I played them on CRTs originally even at low FPS. Display seems to matter a lot
have the same with minecraft. Havent really looked into it but some games give me zero sickness, even fps and rally games like battlefield, halo, dirt or raceroom. No problem in those but other games I cant play for 5min.
You bought the right head set. Inside out tracking sucks. Laser tracking is the way to do it. You had unreasonable expectations. Its amazing. if you really want to know what SCREEN DOOR effect is, Look at the HTC vive.
I have had the index for 2 years (had psvr prior) and love it. half life alyx is great but you really need to try the Bioshock Mod for it, it has a lot more action and is really intense. I would buy a quest but the privacy is a problem for me as I am not a Facebook person, I have tried a friends though and while it is a good headset and very cheap the field of view is really noticable. Ive never had a cable issue but I use a pulley system from kiwi
did you oversample your Index? I did.. makes a huge difference in resolution and screen door effect. I do a lot of iRacing and DCS world and it's very clear when set to oversample. Not like 4k but still very easy to read dials. Need a wicked PC tho... I had to upgrade (again) lol.
VR today is way better than 2-3 years ago. Quest 2 has great displays and truly wireless at low cost. Valve Index has the best at tracking and best controllers. HP Reverb G2 has an amazing screen resolution and lightweight. And its only getting better. Updates to PS VR and more, will make next year exciting.
I got so motion sick I threw up smh it was fun but I'm just one of those people that get sick during vr sadly. I found that I am fine during games where the environment is moving but my character or avatar is not. But when I played games where I am moving in the game while looking around I got really sick. But then again I get carsick sometimes if I sit in the back of a car and I get seasick too
I don't know anything about that headset but I do love my Oculus Quest 2. I play RE4, Beat Saber, and Population One on it and they are great games. A game I play through my PC is No Mans Sky that is another great game.
I owned a Valve Index for an year, great headset with great controller but those fresnel lenses. VIVE was easy to mod using GearVR lenses thanks to 3D printed brackets, but not for Index due to its bizarre lens system that uses two lenses per eye. Knuckles controller supports Lighthouse 1.0 so I eventually went for VIVE Cosmos Elite HMD(GearVR lens modded) & Knuckles combination. Yes, Cosmos Elite are expensive but not that much for a used single HMD, high res as Index, clearer color with GearVR lenses. Totally worth it. Give it a try if you're tired of fresnel lenses.
I recently moved to vr, mostly for flight sims, I was always concerned about motion sickness as i do get seasick but after a short time i have zero problems. I did find setting the headset correctly , position and ipr is crucial to avoid headaches and.or eyestrain and minimising "screen door", i have htc vive cosmos, i hate FB so not touch oculus. Never will i go back to flying sims in pancake mode, its chalk and cheese. I have no dramas reading dials in DCS, plenty frames with 3080ti and a 5900x.
Shame you've not used the other brands to get a better feel for "if you'd buy that one again". I've not used any and have no idea but would love one. This was a nice rounded/detailed review though. Thank you
Welcome to the bald club. I have a Rift S and love VR. I love space flight Sims and racing Sims. Also HL Alyx is a fantastic game. Plenty of there's out there also.
6:26 I had a similar experience. I bought an oculus quest ~2 years ago and the first thing I tried was the ISS Simulator because I thought woooooow, this must be amazing. Grabbing monkey bars and floating around the ISS..... NOT a great first VR experience 🤣 Since then I got used to stuff like that and even games like echo arena are absolutely fine. Still prefer the teleport motion over actually "walking" though, because it just feels weird.
I came from a Vive to the HP Reverb G2, because I want to skip the Index "1" and get the next generation. The Reverb G2 is high Res and affordable, so should sit m need for the time being with seated gaming. Racing, Flight simming, Elite Dangerous.... and "Moss" (the adorable platform/puzzle/storybook game). 😊 As it's inside-out, I can bring it to anywhere and show others what VR can be. WRT frame rate... IMHO it is important(at least 75 Hz), but only once you removed the SDE. And once you reach 90Hz or above, the "sweet spot" size becomes important: the tolerance of where your eyes are in relation to the headset. For yourself, but also for the uninitiated, who don't know what a good position for the headset looks like. And finally, lenses that don't use the Fresnel type, so you don't get glare. I'm looking very much forward to the "Index 2" and hope they perform like the Vario for half the price.
I did not know you were a pilot... MEOWWW... I also have an index and had exactly the same experience, but also, as a commercial pilot myself, my unit ended up finding a slot on the shelf as coming back to VR after breaks here and there in my gaming life meant I had to restart that "motion sickness training" again and again. Its also just a hassle to setup and put when you just want to sit down after a long day with a controller and a beer.
I just bought Oculus Quest 2 (I know FB stuff etc), but i wanted afordable one to check racing games. I was diasapointed a Little when I found out that not many Racing games support IT (unless you use 3rd party software). But except of that airlink, and being able to race in vr is amazing. Also standalone Quest games arw ok, my gf enjoys beat saber and boxing(?!) games.
quest 2 has very little screendoor btw. Like, the quest 1 has it like crazy, quest 2 gets rid of that. I think its at that "pixel density" cost you mentioned, which, yeah, but it works, you can still get some pretty impressive framerates.
Started VR with PSVR which blew me away when I played Resident Evil (still best VR AAA game) and Far point, got Index on release and it was a huge upgrade, simply the tracking and controllers are the best for years to come. Too bad the resolution nowadays at the price is a major factor compared to Vive Pro 2, HP Reverb G2, and even Quest 2 (screw FB btw). Having said that, I still refuse to upgrade as the Index still the best VR all-in-all kit out there. Can't justify the little extra resolution (especially with the lack of technology GPU-wise to run higher resolution with stable FPS). Will probably (like many) wait for valve's next VR HMD which is likely going to be compatible with their ecosystem (and NO, Vive pro 2 still won't be worth it, many negative aspects). Lastly, as you said, you get used to it and forget about the bluriness and SDE..etc. Love your reviews btw :) P.S. in DCS, the VR Tracker Zoom functionality is a must and an easy way to overcome the blurry cockpit without needing to increase pixel density; I usually assign the VR related hotkeys to my Thrustmaster TWCS throttle's thumb's POV (D-Pad) including VR Reset Base, Spyglass and Zoom.
you can play microsoft flight sim in VR? i need a headset now...just bought a HOSAS(for star citizen and elite dangerous ) but have been wanting to fly in MFS for a while

I would suggest ThrillSeeker's advice for VR, my favorite being:
1. mount a pulley system in your room so that the HMD cable is above you instead of under your feet.
2. get a circular 1m (3 feet) diameter rug instead of the chaperone thing to get a better hold of your play area.
Having a small rug to center yourself in the room is an excellent thing to have.
Smart

Due to the lack of screendoor effect, the resolution and level of detail actually felt higher than I expected. Yes, it's not as sharp as a monitor, and you can see shimmering in object edges, but in a way the resolution feels "infinite". And reading even small text is no problem.
Doggo is like "why the heck am I here. And who da hell is the guy talking to?!"
Ehy. Bald & Beard definitely suits you very well. I like it a lot.
Just found out you’re a pilot after watching your vids for a few months- super cool. New doo looks good!
Yah he has a good face and head so bald really suits him.
@@WDMurphy yep, G2 is the step out of SDE we needed. Hopefully none of the yet to be released HMDs step back over that line
Owning the bald my man! Looks good, adds +10 wisdom
DAMN, you look younger now! Plus the aerodynamics must've improved!
My first headset was a Quest 2, and I didn't realize what the screen door effect ACTUALLY was until I tried a friend's Quest 1 😬
My first VR experience was back in the 90s, with a head-mounted CRT! Only for a few minutes at a demo unit, but still.
@@LyK0sa you just have a lot more options and control with Virtual Desktop. They've fixed most Airlink issues since launch
Love the shaved look way better then the one bit of hair just sitting there
your dog is adorable, gotta love cooper!
Congrats. I bought a valve index last year and was very happy with it.
I'm having so much fun flying in VTOL VR, its so good, especially in the new multiplayer beta 🛫
I get motion sick on cars and boats but not in vr
Video I'd love to see: 3D-printing an IHS out of the copper-plastic mix you used to print the copper-infused radiator.
Cueball looks good!
Appreciate the no nonsense reviews!
I did find that if you train your eye balls to stop looking independent of your head, ie keep them straight ahead and move your head instead,
even high motion games won't be so bad with motion sickness.
I don't like windows 10, is windows 11 better otherwise, or no?
Problem being that they're extremely expensive at around 3000$
the reverb g2 has, But I'm still not satisfied when looking anywhere except straight ahead. the sweetspot is still an issue.
You do know you can use diffrent controllers for diffrent headsets
What i mean is that you kan most likely use index controllers with the hp reverb g2
@stickyman3786 didnt realize that. Thats pretty cool
Now you can do an intro like the Ozzyman:
"Welcome to the fan showdown! 'Bends the head' "Dome!"
"Let's get started!"
best games for those who suffer from motion sickness are the ones where your character remains still and stuff come your way, for example beat saber.
The OG vive with the deluxe audio headstrap and wireless transmitter and knuckles is the way to go. Also, bald looks good on you lol
the motion sickness thing is worse in driving games than in FPV shooters and such, because you cant feel the car moving. in the shooters, your body is moving around more, so it feels more natural. for some, shooters are a good way to get used to the feel of vr
I know what you mean with needing to learn how to walk in VR
When I tried the PSVR in a mall demo I needed to brace my leg against the chair behind me to not fall over when my body tried to counterbalance my forward "motion"
I only play VR sitting. I've had a stroke and my balance is a bit off so room-scale isn't really an option. I simrace (iRacing) and cannot race without VR any more. I've been playing in VR now since the original Rift CV1 (still using it).
I have a g2 with knuckle controllers beas of both worlds also addon a wide fov mod for the g2 made the biggest difference.
I don't have motion sickness, but running down\up stairs in pavlov really triggers my brain that I am falling
I have the original oculus and I haven't touched it in years. It's fantastic fun. I really should get it set back up
As long flatscreen games are the number 1 gaming format hardware will always be 1 step behind for VR because it has to produce twice the resolution and a left eye and right eye perspective.
No problem in those but other games I cant play for 5min.
oh man, the cooper part at the beginning made me subscribe :D
You bought the right head set. Inside out tracking sucks. Laser tracking is the way to do it. You had unreasonable expectations. Its amazing. if you really want to know what SCREEN DOOR effect is, Look at the HTC vive.
I think with the quest being so cheap lots more vr games will be developed. I'm stoked.
Really glad to see this because I’ve been debating on getting the index for a long time. Have you played bone works?
I love these dogs... Amazing creatures. But my hatred to picking up sh... is bigger than love for them. LoL.
My lawn mower handles that for me
@@MajorHardware make and model?
Sh!# disturber 5,000,000?
did you oversample your Index? I did.. makes a huge difference in resolution and screen door effect.
" improved my cooling performance" almost spit out my food lol
I got so motion sick I threw up smh it was fun but I'm just one of those people that get sick during vr sadly. I found that I am fine during games where the environment is moving but my character or avatar is not. But when I played games where I am moving in the game while looking around I got really sick. But then again I get carsick sometimes if I sit in the back of a car and I get seasick too
I don't know anything about that headset but I do love my Oculus Quest 2. I play RE4, Beat Saber, and Population One on it and they are great games. A game I play through my PC is No Mans Sky that is another great game.
You should try Hotdogs Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, it's an epic sandbox gun simulation with constant updates.
That Pavlov VR is literally just VR TTT best I can tell, same popular map anyways
G'day Cooper & Major,
So what was the video about, I got Distracted at about 0:24 🐶🥰
Shame you've not used the other brands to get a better feel for "if you'd buy that one again".
I've not used any and have no idea but would love one.
This was a nice rounded/detailed review though. Thank you
Looking good James! I completely agree with your opinion. I got myself the Quest 2 because I lack the space requirements for the index (and money lol)
NOT a great first VR experience 🤣
Since then I got used to stuff like that and even games like echo arena are absolutely fine.
Still prefer the teleport motion over actually "walking" though, because it just feels weird.
Good honest review.
The reverb G2 barely has any screen door effect.
How is the extra cooling?
Ice ice baby
I did not know you were a pilot... MEOWWW... I also have an index and had exactly the same experience, but also, as a commercial pilot myself, my unit ended up finding a slot on the shelf as coming back to VR after breaks here and there in my gaming life meant I had to restart that "motion sickness training" again and again. Its also just a hassle to setup and put when you just want to sit down after a long day with a controller and a beer.
Almost hit the Purchase button for an Oculus.... glad I waited. I will save up for these. Rather use top quality
Rocking the look, especially with that beard
You’re doing the soy face in the thumbnail lmaoo
That's a shiny dome you got there! 😁
My dome was distinctly not shiny. So I decided to wear a hat.
Nice! Welcome to the bald head, red beard club. I'll mail out your members card in the morning.
Don't forget Matt Whitman from TMBH!
quest 2 has very little screendoor btw. Like, the quest 1 has it like crazy, quest 2 gets rid of that. I think its at that "pixel density" cost you mentioned, which, yeah, but it works, you can still get some pretty impressive framerates.
Looking clean with the cut.
Love your reviews btw :)
P.S. in DCS, the VR Tracker Zoom functionality is a must and an easy way to overcome the blurry cockpit without needing to increase pixel density; I usually assign the VR related hotkeys to my Thrustmaster TWCS throttle's thumb's POV (D-Pad) including VR Reset Base, Spyglass and Zoom.
G2 has worse controllers but no screen door(well it's incredibly minimal). Can easily read gauge detail in DCS/MSFS etc.
How is the err you know... video experience?
lol
you can play microsoft flight sim in VR? i need a headset now...just bought a HOSAS(for star citizen and elite dangerous ) but have been wanting to fly in MFS for a while
