  • This is my long term testing and review of the EV-Peak CQ3 multi-port battery charger. I have owned many chargers over my numerous years in the RC hobby, and this charger has impressed me beyond belief in every aspect, while checking every box for reliability, accuracy, performance, quality, durability, flexibility, user friendliness, and affordability.

    this charger is a legend. three years going strong and still the best value in the industry imo. I only recently switched to the isdt D2 part of the time because it's easier to plug in and hit go. don't need to fiddle with any buttons. it auto senses different batteries.

      Kabab FPV - I fully agree Bob, your RUclips video review of this awesome charger was the main reason why I purchased it in the first place, and thanks for watching and commenting on my relatively new and unknown channel.

    Just got mine 1/12/24 from Get FPV , Also have older 80-watt per channel 4-channel 3260 version, one channel display is sketchy. So now have capability of charging seven lipos at a time. Highly recommend this charger for RC fliers with average needs. Surprised how many use these to charge their Prius car batteries, etc. As far as I can tell the blue/silver is version is the same as the red "B-QUAD" version, except the blue/silver version comes with XT-60 charge cables, the red version comes with Deans type "T" charge cables. I had to order four ST-60 female to Dens male T adapters to suit all my Lipos with "T" connectors. My package did not include a charge cable with alligator clips for charging lead acid batteries.

    Sounds like you might be just down the road from where I am in Kingston, TN. I recently bought a CQ3 and was very impressed by it for charging four Hubsan Zino drone 3000mAh LiHV batteries. That battery required modding some 3S extensions to splice on some banana plug leads as the interface to the Zino charge cable. My question having now used the CQ3 on several occasions is whether you have seen consistently quick charging times? I see a wide variation of charge times which of course makes sense relative to how depleted a battery is, but I'm talking about beyond that. Most curiously, I just tried charging a battery depleted to about 50%, using a 7.2A balance charge current which is near the max for that battery on a 100W channel, and for a little over 1400mAH delivered charge capacity, it took 110 minutes versus having seen a 56-minute charge time @7A for half again the delivered charge capacity at 2141mAH. That totally makes no sense to me, so I'm hoping you might have some experience to shed light on that. At 1C, I've seen times around 90 minutes and at 2C, around 74 minutes, so that looks a little more consistent with expectations. Thanks!

    Hello, I plugged in a LIPO 3S battery into the Balance port and could not change the setting from 1S to 3S and thought you had to hold the start button to auto detect it. I got the high voltage error and now getting Battery Check Cell Connect ERR. I tried another port and set it correctly and it works fine. I take it I fried one of the ports.

    have the same charger, but no memory in the menu on mine. According to the manual, there should be a battery meter in the menu (to check IR etc), but even yours doesn't seem to hqave it. Did you find the mini USB to update the firmware of the charger? There is are a few short sentences in the manual about it, but no real info on how to...

    I've had mine about 6 months (12-12-17) and I'm very happy with it. Sadly, I have to admit it has some really good reverse polarity protection. (oops)
    Once I hooked it up in the field backwards and melted the wires really fast. Another time I plugged in the AC power cord and didn't realize I had the alligator clips for field charging still on and and they were touching. I did act quick enough so no melting occured.
    So just a tip for those watching this video and looking to buy one..... Great charger, and NEVER have the AC power cord and DC power cord hooked up at the same time!
    Steelrain....... Have you noticed the 4 ports on the front of the charger?
    I was wondering if they are some kind of charging port for tiny whoop batteries.

    Will this go through several charge/discharge cycles? If so, does it record the values in its memory?

    Thank you - I just got this. Question, if I hook up a charging board to this to charge multipole batteries, do I have to plug in the balance plugs to the board that are on the batteries?

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383  6 лет назад +1

      Jeff Walrich - Yes you should always attach the balance connector along with the main discharge leads to the parallel charging board, and you should always use the balance charge setting on the charger to keep your individual cells balanced, and to keep from overcharging and ruining your batteries.

    Im so lost i cant seem to get the balance charger going and im disappointed with the user manual as it doesnt give a simple instruction on how to get the machine to switch from the xt60 jack to the balanced port. Could you do a video on that or explain please.

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383  6 лет назад +2

      It's actually pretty simple, you select Lipo or the type of battery you're balance charging, select balance charge mode or lipo balance, plug both the main xt60 discharge lead and balance connector in, chose the amperage you want to charge at, then push and hold the enter or start button to begin the cycle.

      @@steelrainfpv3383 Check out other how-to videos about this charger and similar 4-button chargers. The instructions are vague and non-detailed like provided for many Chinese -made devices. I have trouble with flow-chart style instructions.
