It's things like that and things like saying "the smell of a laundry sheet" or something descriptive, that really makes things stick out in my mind and makes it memorable for me! And I do know what the smell of the post-it note stickers smell like 🤣👍 I really enjoyed the video and loved learning about this plant! So I’m kind of annoyed that petco sells the aponogeton ulvaceus bulb as a “Betta Bulb”. My Betta, Floyd, lives in a warm water aquarium kept at 73-80 degrees Fahrenheit… my endler’s and guppy’s also live in warm water Aquariums -at pretty much the same tropical fish water parameters. What would happen if I put this aponogeton ulvaceus bulb in a warm water aquarium ?? Learning the hard way gets expensive. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  Год назад

      They do okay if in sand and burried an inch or two. But yeah they dont like really warm water

  • @douglasdix1326
    @douglasdix1326 3 года назад +1

    I got several of these from PetCo sold as dormant Betta bulbs. A few sprouted into what clearly appear to be A. ulvaceus, but they have a more extreme, very unique leaf-type. Instead of the wavy leaf edge all the photos seem to show, these have complete spiraling, cork-screw shaped leaves on fairly short stems. Very showy. They are in 5 gal tanks in gravel (no soil) and maybe 2+ months old now and in full flower. I have two like these in bloom and have cross-pollinated the blooms so am hoping for viable seeds to see if this cork-screw trait is inheritable. On another note - do you ever sell any of your Rainbow snakeskin patterned enders? I'd love to play with some of those.

    Can I put the bulb of Aponogeton completely inside soil or it has to be partially inside soil? I had put my Aponogeton plants bulb completly inside soil (in dirted aquarium setup) . I grows well for about a month but now no new leafs are growing. Also the old leaves are struggling with algae. Have I done wrong in putting the bulb completely inside sand/soil? Please guide. Thanks

    I had bought a container with three Aponogeton Ulvaceus from PetSmart last July. They grew really fast, and then died off in October. I took the bulbs out, and kept them in a small bin in a sun room. They didn't come back until June of this year, and 2 of the bulbs again grew very fast and are still putting out new leaves. I did get several flowers from one of them this year, but did not know about the seeds so I will look out for that next time. Is an extended dormancy normal?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  3 года назад +1

      Yes, for most bulb plants this is the natural cycle for up to 5 or 6 years easily

    What do you do after it dies back? Leave it to sprout again later?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  3 года назад +1

      You can do that a few times, but then it will eventually die and need to sprout a new growth and a new red ball that turns to a bulb also, or the seed can turn into a bulb after germinating.
      Depending on the species, some people also dry them out (just like when you buy them in packs at the store) then rehydrate whenever you want. Which simulates the dry season.
