  • I am quite familiar with the fact this is probably already up here on other channels, in which I was reluctant to upload virtually the same version. For historical purposes, I chose to do so and hope to not offend anyone else who has the same version of All For You.
Janet Jackson began planning her 7th studio album in the late summer/early fall of 1999 after last releasing The Velvet Rope in October 1997 and touring into January 1999, before being approached in September 1999 by Eddie Murphy to co-star with him in The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps, which began filming October 5, 1999.
Her album sessions were then postponed until after filming on NP2 had concluded on February 15, 2000. Eventually, she also began working on a track for the soundtrack after being visited by the director Peter Segal in March 2000 while at Flyte Tyme Studios in Edina, Greater Minneapolis, Minnesota recording her upcoming album.
By April of 2000 most of the vocals and instrumentation were recorded, with final mix being submitted on May 12, 2000. Doesn't Really Matter was released on May 23, 2000.
While this was going on, she continued working on the rest of her 7th studio album, initially targeted for a late 2000 release. By the fall of 2000, she had recorded what became the title track, All For You.
At the 11th hour according to Jimmy Jam, the song underwent changes in terms of its final mix following the 2001 Superbowl and then was released to radio on March 6, 2001 as the first single.

It’s well known within the Britney Spears fandom that she often referenced and payed tribute to Janet Jackson with her own music and performances. On her third album, “Britney,” which came out in 2001, there is a song called “Anticipating” that has a similar sound to “All For You” in my opinion and the love performance was referred to “Crayola World” as it has a similar design to the “All For You” music video. I’m not sure if that was Britney’s way of honoring Janet since or just a major coincidence! Either way, I think it’s really adorable how much of a fan-girl Britney was for Janet!
(I’m a Slave 4 U was originally recorded by Janet Jackson. Toxic was written for Janet Jackson in mind but was passed down to Kylie Minogue and then Britney Spears. The “Overprotected (The DarkChild Remix)” music video was filmed at the same hotel as Janet’s music video for “Son of a Gun” and was Britney’s way of referencing her. Britney’s music video for “Stronger” was a reference to “The Pleasure Principle” and “Miss You Much.” Britney’s music video for “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know” was a reference to “Love Will Never Do (Without You).” During live performances of “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” Britney would say “That’s the end?” as a reference to “Miss You Much.” She also yelled “Stop!” during the “(You Drive Me) Crazy [The Stop Remix ]” as a reference to Janet Jackson yelling “Stop!” in her “Nasty” video. In 1999, Britney performed “Black Cat/Nasty” during her “…Baby One More Time Tour.” There are more references and tributes Britney Spears has made toward Janet Jackson but I wanted to share some of the small ones).
