- We've all been taught often arbitrary positions in the backswing which may or may not be right for us. The body, as usual will tell us what golf backswing is the best possible swing for you, if you ask the right questions. Here are a couple backswing golf drills you guys can put together at home to answer that question for yourselves and get better at golf. If this Zen Golf Mechanics video helps you, then please like the video and subscribe to see more of Zen's golf tips and tricks!

I cant believe this info is on YT for free !! I have watched your videos and its been nothing but a game changer , awesome Marcus
Haha so pleased to hear 👏👏
‘Have fun with it’ best thing I’ve heard since I started playing golf. Your the man Marcus 🙏
A friend taped my swing last week without me knowing. I got a true view of the difference between what I THOUGHT I was doing and what was actually happening. My right elbow was completely stuck to my side- almost no “real” free backswing and all timing &follow through. Watched this last night and warmed up on the range with it in mind this morning. Best striking and scoring round of the season. (And ever!). Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
This is absolutely excellent!
Really enjoyed the recent lessons where no student is involved. Some great tips to take a way and work on.
Thanks Steve, we'll keep on with the lessons as well as some tutorials 😊
@steve brown agreed!
I practiced the drill before each swing on the driving range ... And a golf light went on .. finally felt how side bend feels on the back swing. Then on the course, gained distance with all clubs ... Result a great under 80's round ... Many thanks Marcus for yet anither brilliant video.
Loving these videos!
Appreciate the feedback 👊
Hi Marcus, have really enjoyed these recent videos which help challenge the "normal" approach to improve our golf swings. Thanks for the info and the straightforward expalnations.
Thank you for your wonderful content. Wish I lived in the UK!
always some nuance to appreciate and learn... Thanks!
I think this may be one of the best Zen vids ever and Marcus Bell is truly a golf coach savant!!!
Awfully kind, David, thank you!
An absolute gem again Marcus. Brilliant presentation as always. This is most probably why I feel "jammed" in my BKS. Apparently I have a "Tour" practice swing like many of us, but when we try to pull the trigger everything looks stiff and dead legged. For me it gives a very laid off flat short swing. I really understand the need for me to rotate going back but reality is different, maybe all the Pro teaching, weight on the inside of trail foot, go for the X Factor, increase disassociation of hips and thorax, upper body takeaway focus, etc. etc! Really appropriate lesson for us all with a pretty practice swing (so we can actually achieve a good swing) and a restrained wooden reality! Can't wait to try to regain that freedom that has escaped me in my game. Many thanks. You really can play great swing. Tom
some of these videos are mind blowing keep it up and many thanks
Best golf advice in the world.
Keeping it simple BUT effective, what more do you want?
A friend of mine who plays off 6 asked me to look at the top of his backswing because he was concerned about the club position and where to set it as he was experiencing inconsistency in his ball striking. I have just shared the link for this video in the hope that gives him an appreciation of the difference between setting the club at the top in a static position with the arms and arriving there dynamically as the result of an intent to hit a certain shot.
Another great video Markus thank you
Cheers, Tony
Brilliant!
Thanks Marcus enjoyed the video.
Appreciate it, Adrian!
Great vid again!!
I was wondering if you could do a vid on releasing the club from driver to wedge?
Cheers mate
IMO tension is the golf swings worst enemy and I think swing thoughts are the worst cause of tension!
Another great video 👍🏻
i have never used my lower body...all arms and ball bound! Thanks!
Great video 👍
Thanks John!
Priceless 👍
Thanks Keith!
Fantastic video….
Great explanation of the full twisting golf swing. I am really struggling with my game. Seems to have got worse lately.
This could be a massive eye opener. As I ve learned to keep my weight on the inside of the right thigh....and was always wondering why my hip can´t turn, therefore lack of rotation and depth. Jesus....might be another personal Zen moment here....Thx a lot
Lesson in Jul with Marcus, started playing so much better, dropped 3+ off HK in the next 9 weeks then it’s all gone wrong. Watched this & the Penny has dropped again!! I’ve started thinking about how I’m swinging again rather than what I intended to do & where the ball was gibing from just delivering my intention 👌cheers Marcus, I can kickstart my journey again by playing with Zen Intent instead of swing thoughts 👏👏👏
The pleasure is mine, Malcolm! So pleased to hear 👏
Mr. Bell, this is so helpful!
Can you do a video for the downswing as well?
I live in the center of the US and am not able to travel to you (unfortunately).
Also, are there US based instructors that you could refer me to (that are ZEN approved)?
Fantastic tuition as always Marcus, could you do an indepth video about the footwork throughout the swing, I find it difficult to start the swing by moving to the left, could I start the swing using my right knee to start the momentum?...thanks in advance
I had lots of questions, but your video answered them- brilliant and easy to do and self check! This is probably what older self taught pros did and over the years, teachers filmed and captured positions and then developed averages for each so called point or position - the wonderful P. So we chase the positions and “moves” or devices to lock and achieve the lag, drag, angle, torque or whatever. Oh brother. Are you sure there isn’t a p-3 in there somewhere?
Absolutely brilliant ... unfortunately I hit balls in an abandoned golf practice range with thorns and weeds and I have to keep my shoes on! #wasthereeveranydoubt #teamZEN
Love the commitment 💯
Brilliant
Thank you, Sir 🤓
Oh Marcus I’ve been there looking stupid with the rods through the belt loops - even in public too !
Me too! 😂😩
11.39..... loved the Tiger Twirl
😉
good explanation
Cheers, Will 👍
Do we end up pushing with inside of our trail foot through the ball marcus?
Im struggling with spinning out and not using the ground laterally properly
Being an athlete, this approach to golf makes the most sense.
It's the same approach we took to all sports/activities 💯💯
Brilliant video Marcus. Seeing you barefoot reminds me of when I first saw you on flowmotion golf many years ago. I learnt to play by watching Bill Owens videos but sadly like so many I have managed to confuse what was simple.
That's awesome, Robbie! Bill Owens is the man 👊
Would love to see a video how to let the club head free wheel through impact
Sounds good, I'll get to work! Appreciate the feedback
This would be great, especially the swinging out/right feeling and counterbalancing the club
Do you have any good foot and ankle mobility exercises we can do ?
Too many! 😂 lots you can find in the lesson videos we have; spikey ball exercises are a great start 👍
As someone who has torn both ankle ligaments and ruptured achilles I would love to see a summary of the handy exercises !! Although maybe I'm beyond repair hence why my back kills after regardless of how I warm up 🤣
my latest tee shirt........." Explore the Ground " ........
I swing everything left, I’m much better with the irons than the driver. Really struggling to get my path rightwards. So if I move myself right, should the face stay at the target in setup? Should I set up with the face closed to the path?
Finnaly some clear instruction about what the body is doing from the inside out (not focussed on the external form) ... it's like spiritual enlightenment 😇
"Do not follow the ideas of others, but learn to listen to the voice within yourself" 🧘♂️🔮
@@GRFGolf i do ... but the correct information is essential ... i try to find out what wirks for my body but there are of course still some blind spots in my awereness.
In my perception I feel like the side bend of the body and the bowing of the left wrist is something that should happen automatically due to inertia if the downswing is started correctly ... can you maybe make a video about that?
@@antonclijsters7021 I wasn't suggesting you don't I was just looking for a spiritual quote to yolk to your fine comment there! 😂 awesome idea, I have done a video on the bowed left wrist position, but will have more to come: ruclips.net/video/jja0vd7YOf8/видео.html
I've worked on rotating verses swaying based on your previous video's and it's been a big help, but I still had room for improvement. I tried the simplest solution to getting a better turn today that came from Lee Trevino who was advocating this especially for us seniors. I simply took my normal stance, then shifted my trail foot backwards just a touch and flared it a little and it worked very well. I gained maybe half a clubs distance without trying and the small fade I've been hitting was cut in half.
While I may be getting older, I'm in good shape and my ability to turn is still pretty good. But this made a fuller turn feel natural.
That's awesome! One thing that (might) be worth keeping an eye on is to make sure that back foot doesn't creep too far back, and instead moving the ribcage around the ball also. But whatever you're doing now is clearly working so keep at it!
@@GRFGolf Thanks for the tip. I will certainly do that. And I'll keep watching your awesome content.
Hi Marcus, I have a question - my swing issues overswing, reverse weight shift.
7i usual club speed around 70mph. Dist 125-135 yards.
Q - Can your methodology improve these numbers for me? Even with an overswing!
👍 Defo
Revisiting this video a year later. Where should the downswing be initiated from ?
What can u do in your glof swing when you have screw in your ankle
Where is the zen den based ?
Bawtry GC, Doncaster, Yorkshire 👍
Really debunking loads of teaching I have been through!!!
No p1-p9 blah blah blah this is so refreshing.
Why do we (I) complicate it so much???
