    All About Azelaic Acid!
    Azelaic acid is a so-called carboxylic acid. It’s not an AHA or BHA but a distant relative to them (all being carboxylic acids). It can be found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley.
    Azelaic Acid is overall quite safe to use. Superstar ingredient with antibacterial, skin cell regulating, anti-inflammatory and skin-lightening magic properties
    incidecoder.com/ingredients/a...
    Up to 20% concentration showed no signs of redness or irritation
    journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1...
    Using a derivative, like the Geek & Gorgeous Apad Serum is a good way to acclimate your skin!
    Geek & Gorgeous APad:
    iaff.geekandgorgeous.com/idev...
    Azelaic Acid is generally well tolerated as well as friendly with other acids and other skincare ingredients, making it a great one to layer! If you have sensitive skin, or are new to AA you still might be best off alternating it with other actives.
    livewellzone.com/what-to-comb...
    Benefits:
    Famous for reducing sensitivity-induced redness
    Aides in diminishing blemishes and post-acne marks
    Offers gentle exfoliating properties to refine skin’s texture
    Also delivers antioxidant benefits
    Can help with melasma as well as redness in skin
    Rosacea prone skin can also benefit from its anti-inflammatory properties

    If your aim is to calm rosacea and redness, the Peach Slices is excellent. The other ingredients in the formulation are also meant to calm and target redness. You still will get the lightning effects of the Azelaic Acid, but you will notice a difference in your redness quite quickly.

    Azelaic Acid has been a game changer for me as well. (I’m also semi-convinced that I’m rosacea prone but don’t quite have it, if that makes sense).
    I’m hate-finishing the Cos de Baha one currently. It’s a little too “oily” feeling for me.

I'll be using adding Timeless Vitamin C serum as soon as it arrives in the mail. I tried the Good Molecules retinol and I can see the difference in two weeks in combo with La Roche Posay Dark Spot Corrector, Glycolic B5 and Naturium Tranexamic Topical Acid 5% (which I've alternated every other week because I'm experiencing some dehydrated/dry skin issues). If you like Azclear, you'll LOVE Finacea 15% gel (feels more like a lotion). We have it OTC here in Australia. Much easier to work with and some Redditors swear it's more effective (despite being a lower %).

    • @gwendolinehall1386
      @gwendolinehall1386 Год назад +1

      I can second this recommendation! I just switched from azelex 20% to Finacea 15% and I like it better! 20% is a little too intense sometimes, though it does power through my rosacea breakouts. But 15% is nearly as effective and easier to use, I don't get any irritation at all with it, when I just had the 20% I'd get an unpleasant prickly feeling.

    • @Justin_Osugi
      @Justin_Osugi Год назад

      @@gwendolinehall1386 percentage isn't everything. Dr. Sherene Idriss made a video about azelaic acid where she talks about this. A gel has an easier time penetrating the skin, so the difference in percentage is less relevant.

    • @gwendolinehall1386
      @gwendolinehall1386 Год назад +1

      @@Justin_Osugi my azelex 20% and the new 15% Finacea one, which might be generic because now that I look at the bottle, it doesn't say any name at all, but I was told I was being prescribed that, anyways they're basically identical lotion/cream textures out of the tube. But that 20% whooped my butt some days with the prickly sensation. I put the 20% on my husband the one day and he said it was super uncomfortable. I think percentages don't matter as much in the drug store over the counter formulations but 20% was definitely a lot for me and I'm not sensitive to actives like that generally. I think it's the highest percentage available. But I'm sure around that 10% strength in the over the counter levels, what Dr Idriss said is likely very true.

      I do think it has helped with both acne, skin texture, as well as blackheads and redness. I really enjoy it and the texture is so light it really fits into a routine nicely!

    I just ordered Azelaic Acid 20% in a cream base. Has anyone out there used a 20% cream and did you see results?...I've read the 15% gel is actually better But they did not have this version Thanks

    All those acids! How do you work them into your routine. I haven’t figured it out yet because so many of the acids can’t be used together. Plus, they can’t be used with vitamin C and retinol! Aaargh

    • @NOBSBeauty

      Very good question! I typically rotate evenings so I switch my evenings up- one night I'll use my BHA exfoliant, one night retinol, one night azelaic acid. My morning routine is dedicated to Vitamin C only. It gets kind of complicated trying to keep it all straight in my head😂

    • @satutoivonen9679
      @satutoivonen9679 Год назад +1

      None of that is true. You can have all the acids you want + vit c + retinol in the same routine if your skin tolerates it. That's a big if ofcourse. These are all ingredients that can cause irritation so the likelihood of irritation increases if used together. But if you happen to tolerate all of them well there's no reason you couldn't use all of them together. I combine BHA + Azelaic Acid + retinaldehyde in my evening routine daily with zero problems and I have sensitive skin. I even went through my routine with my dermatologist recently as I had a bit of an atopic dermatitis flare up. She confirmed that my acids + retinaldehyde combo is fine, doesn't affect my AD or the treatment of it and is infact a nice and gentle way of treating adult acne. Try and find ingredients that are best suited for you and don't cause irritation for you specifically and you don't have to worry about what goes with what.

      @@lululee1653 Oh, thats what you meant, sorry! But still not true. Skincare ingredients somehow cancelling out each other is a bit of a myth, there are no scientific studies to back that up. There's one fringe study about copper peptides and vit c cancelling out each other but that has been heavily critized to be poorly executed. Other than that there's zero proof that would happen with any ingredient. I don't know where these silly rules about not combining certain ingredients have sprung up from but science it's not.

      @@lululee1653 not true. most derms have debunked this. You can generally wait 10 min to apply ingredients that don't play well with others such as niacinamide + vic c. I think benzoyl peroxide is really the main ingredient that you should use on your own. And as most derms will say, it really comes down to what your skin can tolerate.

    can we use Azelaic acid with vitamin C or Retinoids? thanks

    • @NOBSBeauty
      @NOBSBeauty  Год назад

      It really depends on who you ask. If it is an azelaic acid around 10% and your skin is acclimated to using it there are many people that say you can use it with vitamin c. I try to use vitamin c alone in my morning routine so I am much more likely to use AA with retinoinds in my evening routine. As long as I apply some good hydrating products I havent had any issues using the two in the same routine. i found this write up interesting and helpful: www.sciencebecomesher.com/azelaic-acid-and-retinol-together/
