I hope you had fun at universal!! me and my service dog are going to Disney World in Orlando Florida late August - early September. I did not have time to prep her at all because it was a surprise trip and I was super nervous with how she would do but I ran into two service dog handler’s and one of them said my dog was the best behaved service dog she has ever seen and she goes to Disney very frequently that honestly caught me so offguard because I’m so used to being told that my service dog is horrible and aggressive from people online who obviously have never met Me, but it still always secretly got to me whether I thought so or not. It was a huge eye-opener with my Dogs progress, and my hours upon hours of dedicating my time to training her.
Thank you so much!! People forget that we only see a glimpse of what it’s like for us and our dogs online. Sometimes it takes people outside of us and in person who tell us what they see to really help us see the progress we’ve made as sd teams. I want my social medias to be a safe space for everyone, we’re all just trying our best after all. And I’m so glad you got to go to Disney and hear that you guys are doing such an amazing job! You guys got this!!❤️✨🦮
Congratulations violet on how far you both have come. There’s nothing there’s nothing better than when you RSD is able to perform a task you didn’t think they were capable of it, that’s so exciting and inspiring to keep working hard. I’m glad your Disney trip went well and can’t wait to see that video. I love how real and authentic your channel is one thing I find that so many people don’t understand about service dogs is that even though they might know what particular task or have really good obedience those things don’t always hold true in new or challenging or stressful Firemans and in order to work for that it takes practice in those environments. It makes sense that you would have worked with him primarily in indoor spaces since that’s where you would go with him the most often and so where you would need him to behave the best. I also think that using outside spaces to decompress particularly when he was young and still in training is a really good strategy so that’s even more admirable that he did so well doing those obedience and task work it outdoors this time being your first time at it. Do you have any advice on teaching a block my dog has been getting better at standing straight behind me partially because of what you recommended starting parallel to something like my bedframe but she’s having a hard time transferring to stepping between me and people when people come up behind me in public.
Thank you so so much for you’re support and sweet comments and compliments!! 🥺❤️✨ I needed to hear all that! I try my best keep things real and not edit out many things (unless if there’s a lot of repetitive clips, then for times sake I’ll cut out the repeated clips!) cause I think it’s important for everyone to see the real side of everything regarding service dogs. Too often I see many people sharing videos and posts about the successes of their dog but none really document the whole process. So I try my best to document most things in the hopes it helps someone and brings more awareness, but also in the hopes that it provides comfort or support to those going through the same things. It’s definitely something I wasn’t expecting- Atlas alerting in that type of new and high distraction environment. It’s always so exciting and relieving to see those breakthroughs with our pups! Also thank you so much- about saying it’s admirable that I’ve used outdoors as a way to help him decompress and indoors to train! I thought it was more of a mistake, but after I’ve taken this trip and worked him outdoors I see now that it didn’t matter cause he sees his working gear as his on and off switch! As far as doing block goes, slowly working up to more and more crowded environments might help her become desensitized to people being behind her and holding her task. Also keep using a lure as you transition from being in the house and against a wall when practicing to being out in public and having her do block. Also keeping that variable of doing it against a wall when first going out in public might also help, and then slowly transition away from the wall and keeping that lure, then fading out that lure to just using your cue word. Staying consistent with the things you’ve already introduced and just adding them to new environments can help. And then once she’s doing better in those more challenging environments you can slowly wean out the lure, starting with weaning it at home and then out in public spaces! I hope that makes sense! Going from 0-100 with training is not effective with dogs unfortunately. Breaking it into steps and slowly working up to more challenging things are always going to be better for them when they’re learning! ✨❤️
@@helperpupatlas7377 i’m so glad you found my comment helpful. You’re one of the most authentic and real service 13 I found here on RUclips and I think you’re right many people only post a positive affects for when things are going well with her dog and I think it’s just as important if not more so to show the other side of things when things aren’t going well or when you text it back send in training or try something a different way because then it’s more relatable and also helps other handilers struggling with the same or similar thing both in terms of knowing about a long and sharing advice. Speaking of, thanks for your advice about doing it next to a wall in public I’ll try that and yes I’ve been using a lore and do you plan to fade it out and replace it only with my verbal cue once she gets to that point. You’re right going from 0 to 100 and ever works I had to learn to slow down with training and just take things one step at a time with her I know that sometimes we need to go back to go forward or sometimes we need to change the way we’re teaching a particular behavior/task
@@helperpupatlas7377 also that’s awesome that he still did really well outdoors even though you didn’t work much there, No I wouldn’t classify not working him much outdoor as much as a mistake like you said you were able to teach him that when the vest is on he’s working and I think that’s more important concept I also use outdoors as a way for my dog to decompress which works well for her when we’re in stressful for situation or just if we’re having an off day
Hey! You guys are and awesome team. I just wanted to mention that it might help his forging forward in heel to reward in front of him and not across your body. ❤
I love the part where you say uh uh, leave it. I realized early how this works with people. If I see someone starting to engage I say leave it and usually the person stops. 😁 great strategy. My golden SD was born June 2021, close in age to Atlas. I love your composure and training. Love your videos. ❤. What is Atlas doing when you say finish? A tight heel/sit? Couldn’t tell on the video. Thanks for sharing.
Aww thank you so much! Yes I say uh uh and leave it to people, but they just think I’m talking to Atlas and it helps so much in preventing a lot from happening. And it helps prevent confrontation too! Finish, is just what it sounds like, it means he needs to move his back legs and pivot into a heel! So “finishing” his heel. It’s basically like a “hey your booty is kind of out of the heel or you haven’t completely gone into heel just yet and I need you to pivot just a bit so your right next to me!” So essentially if I tell him heel and he’s not completely at my side and he’s a bit diagonal I can say finish and he’ll move his back legs to straighten out into a tight and straight heel! I hope that makes sense, it’s hard to explain lol. Thank you so much again for your kind comment and for watching our videos!❤️✨🦮
Love watching your videos. My golden is the same age as atlas. Can you share info on the cape he wears. I am looking for ideas to get a custom one made. Thanks.
Thank you so much!! His vest is a one Tigris Apollo vest in the medium style (short back) and you can buy it through the one Tigris website or you can get them through Amazon! One Tigris is by far my favorite non-custom brand to get vests from. They’re great if you love the tactical look and can’t afford anything too expensive! I hope that helps✨😊
Great video. Atlas and you both did so good. I can’t wait to see your trip!!
Thank you so much!! I’m excited to get to share our experience with you all!!✨❤️
