In the year 2005 I was my 1st year of my job career when I was introduced to Jal..Aadat instrument played live… which I had mp3 saved in my computer but then it got lost…I’m still searching for that version. But this coke studio one is simply epic..brought back all my memories..so nostalgic yaar.

Aadat is an old track composed by Gohar Mumtaz more than 15 years ago.. The guy you see singing in this video for a bit is the man himself who composed this masterpiece. This Nescafe Basement is a version that just took the original composition to a whole new level, thanks to Xulfi - the man behind Nescafe Basement (all seasons) and now he has taken over the reigns of Coke Studio Pakistan as well.

wow. Rosalie, so few people truly immerse themselves - and this spiritual, emotional depth is something you will find over and over again in Pakistani songs.
The poetry is a VERY integral part of our songs, what will be more difficult for westerners to grasp and retrieve will be the psychological threads and traditional storylines that underpin so many of our songs. I can send a link to that understanding if you wish.
    Looking forward to more reactions.

Thanks, Rosalie! You said much of what I felt about the first part of this so I hesitated to comment, then you spoke about the lyrics and a thought crystallized: "Perhaps the first part describes the love we experience while being created and the lyrics describe how God feels when we refuse to accept and live in that love afterwards?"

This video song on which you just reacted is a combination of 2 songs 1. Aadat (originally by Atif Aslam) 2. Bhanwraray by Jal the band, so you don't get confused with it, they are 2 different songs.

"Jal", meaning water, was a Pakistani band founded by Gohar Mumtaz with Atif Asalm as its lead vocalist. This song, Adaat, was the band's mega hit which took Pakistan and later on the whole subcontinent by storm. Sadly, Aatif Aslam parted ways with the band soon after this song became a big hit. The band was never the same again.

This one is the iconic one in Atif Aslam's voice. Though Atif then separated from Jal the band and because the founding member of Jal, (Gohar Mumtaz) had the main role in Aadat's composition so this song has both the Atif and the Jal versions available on YT. But our generation likes the Atif version more.

Hey so ill try explaining a bit about what this all really means in a way it makes sense. So the song AADAT was sung by a band called JAL in the early 2000’s. JAL is or was a band in Pakistan and Goher Mumtaz was one of the band members of that time. Unfortunately the band later split but thats a whole different story. Now this song AADAT hits really hard to you. Me personally I don’t remember how old I was when I first heard it but this song was famous all over Pakistan and also in India since we speak kinda the same language. Urdu from pakistan Hindi from India is a bit similar to speak. You could also add Bangladesh in here too because a few of them also speak and understand our language. So anyways this song was famous all over the desi community, Desi(Pak/Ind/Ban). Back then when we were kids we probably didn’t really understand the lyrics but the song was like injected in our veins in our blood. Its as if this song is the national anthem of Desi community. Ask any Pakistani, Indian and Bengali ( a few ) about this song and they’ll just tell you what a masterpiece it is. As you mentioned it touches your SOUL. You cant hear it without even getting teary. You can’t hear it without singing along.
In the end of this version they made, Goher enters and sings saying “Everywhere is JAL” trying to say JAL is still alive basically.
But yea I’m glad you reacted to such a masterpiece. I do wish you could listen to the original song.

The season is over but its left us with such masterpieces. And also every Season 14 song also has a Magical Journey of it, or a BTS of the song. Do also react to those. I promise you will fall in love with the music thats coming out of my country.

Peace be with you dear. It is wonderful to share the experience of listening to great music with you. My knowledge of music is not as high as yours but am quite familiar with the global music in general. In my humble opinion whoever comes across the Pakistani music, there is no going back for him/her. This music just spell bounds you. Every part of world produces good music, every part of the world has its own textures, but Pakistani music is just out of the world. You will find here the most God gifted singers, most polished musicians and wonderful lyrics writers. Country has an edge of the linguistic advantages. Urdu(most common language of Pakistani songs) has inbuilt beauty of expression n phonics. If you want to continue your journey of discovering Pakistani music, I can help you if you like. I have watched a couple of your videos here on this channel and from that I can understand that you can appreciate song writing and content as well. If you asked, I will suggest some tracks. This instrumental is based on a very famous Pakistani song "aadat" by the band named Jal(water) in 2004. Music lovers of subcontinent (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh) have a nostalgic relationship with this song. That's why you will find these types of remarks In the comments section of this version as well. Stay blessed, stay safe
