Visited north Walsham last summer (2023), just came across this absolutely brilliant short time laspe film. Excellent graphics and story line, captivating, original and a fabulous journey
Thanks Rebecca! This is just an early version I have made a new channel dedicated to bringing to life lost rail journeys feel free to subscribe! Here is the finished piece ruclips.net/video/SKt-jGC30KQ/видео.html
Well. That was one hell of a ride. Very interesting concept. I can't imagine the amount of work it took to get the photos and arraying them. And the graphics of the moving train... Wow. Well done, you!
These are fabulous and this one so far is my most favourite. The pictures, the way you share the journey, the music and even the background noises are so well done.
Phenomenal work James, so sad that so much of the line is lost, I have always wondered about Aylsham North - great to see it // Peter ,Drabblegate, Aylsham ( your father pointed me to this)
Fascinating. As a volunteer on the North Norfolk Railway it is of particular interest. We run Sheringham - Holt, part of the old Midland and Great Northern, MNGR - or as it was more popularly known as the Muddle and Go Nowhere Railway. So anything in this part of the world, Melton Constable way is of interest. Thank you.
Hi your videos are so cool! I found your page because I recently found out that my ancestors were born in the Melton Constable Hall. Do you have an history videos about it? Do you recommend me reading anything? Thank you very much!
Hi Laura I don't know all that much about Melton Constable the only video featuring it are my railway ones as Melton Constable was an important railway junction once. Sounds like you need a trip to your library!
Thanks Kit! I actually finished this video in a recent film: ruclips.net/video/w2DMXJxr9go/видео.html I walked cycled or drove most of the original route to recreate the lost line over the last year
Superb....any railway history is of interest...makes one wonder why these rural lines should have been mothballed for future use...but I guess this is what they call 'progress'...NOT?
Mothballing is expensive. Not only do you need to keep the track and infrastructure in a reasonable condition to allow quick reopening but mor importantly you need to maintain driver knowledge of the line and that is harder to do if the line isn't kept in running conditions (especially in the days before computer based simulation was possible). And just how long do you intend to mothball each line for? The March to Wisbech line is still in place, except for all the level crossing, but will take months to be reopened due to all the trees and shrubs growing in the track bed. Then they'll need to re-establish the track circuits and signals and the level crossings especially the one over the A47, which the Highways Agency and local council will oppose unless the line terminates south of this major road or a bridge for the road is constructed. But what will take the longest time will be the training of the drivers, provided sufficient drivers can be found within the current workforce. In the last 20 years the route knowledge will have been lost through drivers leaving the industry and for those that remain not having driven along the line in almost quarter of a century (and that was with freight trains in the main). The M&GN lines were always poor financial performers, the only thing that really kept them alive was the summer holiday traffic. Many of their stations were a good distance from the villages they served making local bus services more appealing. And when people started buying cars the local buses disappeared.

Fantastic, and original, best video I have seen, really makes you believe you know every inch of the track
Excellent video. Obviously the result of a great deal of research; so much better than the usual land-based views.

Thanks Peter. I hope to finish this from Great Yarmouth to Melton Constable once we are out of lockdown. James
The graphics are getting better on these journeys - keep up the good work and thanks :)

Nice video 👍
My Father worked on this line in the relay gang during the 1950s ,the track was in excellent condition when they closed the line in 1959.
Very clearly a line that won`t be returning to the timetables. Great video.
These videos are amazing.
