I dont get why moving in Japan is such a big deal in the series, like arent they just a few hours away from each other
Gotta realize the sense of scale isn't linear worldwide. Here in the states, a few hours is just that, a few hours. Maybe pass by 2 or 3 big cities on the way, usually by bypass, but otherwise, there isn't really all that much going on.
What you've got to realize is that in a place like Japan, their infrastructure is far more compact, and 2-3 hours of driving can take you into an entirely different subculture. It's similar to driving from NYC to Upstate NY. They're literal worlds apart, and yet they're not that far away from one another physically.
It would be even worse if it was a slice of life anime
