LOVE Carcass- and their new album Surgical Steel is them back on form at their best. But, this is NOT Carcass at their best. It can be forgiven though. 2008 was the year they first started playing live again in over 10 years AND they lost Owen on Drums. Guitar tuning issues, and some timing issues here. Can't wait to see them live this year!

Having played a down tuned Les Paul for years, that instrument is right out of tune. Also a serious tone issue, likely a gating problem or (unlikely) wrong setting on the pre-amp or FX.
So the tuning on bills guitar is the problem but he's also messing up, probably *because* of the tuning. can be difficult when you try correct for it. makes you distracted and mess up.
I honestly don't understand why people hate lulu so much. It wasn't supposed to be a major metallica release, it was just a fun little side project they did! Even Metallica admits it wasn't an actual album, it was just something cool to do.
I've seen this happen to other musicians, imo, it's a gate issue. The guitar tone is too heavily gated, nothing to do with his playing, just not enough decay on the gate. Sucks. He could have possibly put the gate on before hit the Stereo channel but maybe pre monitor? so Bill hears the guitar through his monitors differently? Maybe someone else knows why this happens.

But it was 2008, they reformed not so earlier and i suppose it's not easy to return playing this kind of fast, complex music when he played hard/blues rock for the prior twenty years; it requires a bit of adjustment.
