      @@cyberscrilla makes sense to use multiple wallets though I’m wanting to rely on one for ease.
      Isn’t is something to consider with wallets that need a seed phrase for recovery that if that seed phrase gets found, either on paper or on some stainless steel contraption and they know what cold wallet we’re using, they can restore new wallet and take our crypto?
      With the Tangem cold wallet, they need to steal one of the cards, our phone and know the passcode to unlock the phone AND the passcode to enter into our Tangem account.
      Makes sense that Tangem is safer right?

    • @cyberscrilla
      @cyberscrilla  11 месяцев назад +1

      You can use almost ANY hardware wallet to import a seed phrase. It doesn't have to be the exact wallet or even brand someone uses, so yes you are right.

    • @cyberscrilla
      @cyberscrilla  Год назад +3

      Nothing is impossible to hack. In Tangem’s case, it’s just VERY UNLIKELY.
      Their site says it all: The card is EAL6+ certified, and the firmware is installed on the card chip once and once only, during the manufacturing process at the factory.
      After that, it’s physically impossible to do anything with the firmware: you can’t read anything from the chip or load your own version of the firmware onto it.
      Even if we assume that a hacker has managed to do this, the card would be unusable.
      The firmware attestation service would determine that the software has been changed and warn the user.

      So they say. If you don’t opt in for the service, then they can’t access you seed phrase.

      A crypto address is on the blockchain,. and the funds stored at the address- are on the blockchain. A wallet,. is nothing more then a window- allowing a person to see the items being stored at the address, on the blockchain.. Whether a wallet is hardware (like these cold ones), or software (like metamask),. or any other way- all of them are technically not "holding funds".. The funds- are on the blockchain,. the wallet allows you to see/put/take.. We users use a seed phrase ( a collection of 12 - 24 words) to create a unique wallet address (that is on the blockchain),.. a device/wallet then views whats at an address (provided you give the device/wallet the same seed phrase to create an address on a blockchain)... so if the batteries died, recharge it. Funds are safe. Broke the item? Buy another one, it'll ask for a seed phrase- give it the same one you used originally, BAM funds restored on new device...as the device/wallet is nothing more then a window to see whats written on the blockchain- and interact with it.

    • @cyberscrilla
      @cyberscrilla  10 месяцев назад +2

      Two things: First, if the battery simply dies because you have to recharge the wallet-that’s fine.
      Second, if the battery permanently dies (eventually it will after years) your crypto is still safe. It’s stored on the blockchain, not your wallet.
      You’d simply enter your secret recovery phrase into another wallet to access your funds
      I hope that answers your question.

      Depends on what you mean by “issue”. Ledger Recover is the subscription service that when activated by the user, sends your private key externally.
      Initially, this is only offered on the Nano X (and likely all devices thereafter) via a simple firmware update.
      Now the bigger “issue” is whether or not you should trust Ledger period. The previously stated the firmware could not export your private key, now all of the sudden it can.
      According to Ledger, they can’t send private keys externally unless the user opts-in for the service.

    Ledgers recovery feature is confusing to a lot of people. If you do not sign up for the recovery future which cost monthly or yearly then you will not be affected once so ever. The update does not allow them to obtain your keys without you verifying the transaction. Even if the government was to subpoena Ledger to give this information it wouldn't be possible because they wouldn't have it. If you had opted into the service they would have the capacity to obtain the other two shards needed to reconstruct the rest of your private key. This is solely a business tactic for the next Bull Run that is expected they're trying to get the new people that buy crypto in this next Bull Run to stay in crypto a lot of people are going to flood the market that have no education once so ever when it comes to crypto. The biggest financial institutions in the world know that this is going to be the biggest Bull Run and they're trying to make a profit

    • @asteriskesque
      @asteriskesque Год назад +8

      "If you do not sign up for the recovery future which cost monthly or yearly then you will not be affected once so ever." That's not true. Since Ledger's code isn't open, there's no way to know. And since Ledger now uses key extraction firmware, Ledger devices now have an over the internet attack surface for hackers to exploit. And anyone who says that's not possible is a fool since the code can't be verified. Even Ledger admitted their code can't be fully verified.

    • @cyberscrilla
      @cyberscrilla  Год назад +1

      100%. I’ve read comments elsewhere that suggest Ledger should have just created a completely new cold wallet that offered the extraction feature vs including it in the firmware.

    The proper term for Ledger's seed recovery is "Extraction." I won't use a wallet that has key extraction firmware. And since Ledger's code isn't fully open, there's no way to prove it's safe. Even Ledger admitted that: "There's no backdoor and I obviously can't prove it" That's a quote from reddit user btchip, who is also a Ledger co-founder. Ledger retroactively screwed all of us by turning our cold wallets into hot wallets with key extraction firmware. I'll never trust them again.

      @@cyberscrilla - The issue isn't that they implemented the feature in a way that makes everybody happy. The issue is that they sold SIX MILLION cold wallets with promises like "Your keys are always stored on your device and never leave it" and then one day they turned them into hot wallets without our consent. That's fraud. And some may say "If you don't want to use Recover, don't use it." That's ignoring the fact that Ledger wrote code to extract keys over the internet and they put that code on your wallet whether you subscribe to Recover or not. I think Recover is a fine service to offer. But turning cold wallets into hot wallets is fraud. I paid for a cold wallet. @@_Rustodian It is HIGHLY unlikely that Ledger Recover was the culprit. It’s not even available at this time as the rollout has been put on hold.
      Don’t make the mistake of believing ANY hardware wallet can’t be hacked.
      Devices that are compromised are almost always the result of a user error.
      Very rarely is it the result of the actual device being digitally or physically “hacked”.

      @@_Rustodian I think she actually bought her ledger from a 3rd party so it was unfortunately already compromised. But i havent updated to the new firmware yet because of the sharing bs

    I do not trust ledger cockers or other sticks walets...

      That’s fair. I generally choose a wallet based on what’s inside. Not if it’s a stick or not.
      I like wallets with:
      • Secure Element
      • Open source firmware
      • Air gap tech

    Ledger have been robbing customers for years. How can they justify that price, especially with all the cheaper, better competition.
