The algorithm has done me well. high quality content, subbed! I've seen this cookbook around and always dismissed it as one of those soulless branded cookbooks that just tack character's names onto standard recipes. Glad to see it's better than the Nuka Dark Rum lol
I found recently the Fallout cookbook in a bookstore and came back to this video to check if I should buy it, since I am not that into the game franchise. I had forgotten that you used to just show the making of the dishes with background music and no commentary. I am really glad you went on to comment on your process, you have a very good voice, and when you could say how you differed from the recipe or gave your own thoughts to what happened, it gave an extra entertainment but also depth. Again, happy you did it ^_^
I’ve made a few things from this cookbook and they have all been tasty, but usually seem needlessly complicated and expensive. I think my favorite so far has been the nuka-cola and I can’t wait to try more of the recipes (they are best tackled one at a time for me). Honestly, even if the recipes were bad I’d probably keep the book for the handwritten notes, which are hilarious, but in my experience the recipes are great! Just wish they were slightly simpler (although that’s definitely not the vault-etc way lol)! I also wish there were more vegetarian recipes (although that’s not the Wasteland way 🤪). Great review!
Yeah, especially in the sense of a Wasteland Survival scenario, some of the stuff seems like stuff you'd see inside the White Gloves Casino instead of something Cook-Cook well... cooked.
Dunno if anyone's answered your question or not on 'how to keep the cookies green' but one trick is to freeze them for 20ish minutes before cooking. It means they still cook but don't brown as quickly, which is one way of keeping the colours real bright. Hope this helps!
I actually bought this cookbook and tried it out because of your video. I quite like the recipes thus far (a favorite is the mirelurk queen steak). Thank you for posting quality content.
Ive made the missippie quantum pie from that cookbook, its really good, although it turns out that a lot of people get put off by seeing blue when they eat something, even after being told its literally just blue food colouring they seem to think it changes it somehow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@bluesonicstreak7317 Theres mould blue, then theres the Neon blue my cake was, and I mean, they'll happily eat cake with iscing that all manor of colours, but mine crossed a line somehow, lol

I have made the crab cakes in this book several times, once with actual crab and twice with jackfruit to make a vegan alternative. I have also done the duck power noodles both with meat and vegan as well. Both are good recipes.
So far, everything I've tried from the cookbook has been fantastic. I especially love the sauce for the spiced crab legs / mirelurk meat. That stuff works fantastically on so many foods, it's nuts. I need to make a huge batch of that sauce.

Great video! The cookies just look a little over cooked. Try a convection setting if you have it on your oven and use a cooling rack to put the cookies on right after you bake them (the hot cookie sheet will continue to cook the bottom.) You could always use food coloring to get a more vibrant green.
I've made the Buffout cookies before! It's basically green tea flavored shortbread IIRC, and you may have just had your matcha clump up when mixing the dough. I really wanna get the cookbook now though to try the rest of the recipes (that Deathclaw one looked AMAZING).
I've got this cookbook as well, made the Mole Rat Manicotti and it was absolutely amazing. Definitely worth a try. As for the Buffout, it might have been a combination of the placement in the oven, and how long you had them in the oven. I had to keep a very close eye on them during baking so I didn't lose the green color.
The cook book gets pretty close to the fallout feel but just to give it that extra zest I usually stick a nuclear isotope next to the dish for 2 to 3 hundred years
TBH i wish they made the Mr.House ending Cannon and had Fallout 4 have some sort of idea that NV is preparing to go to space. Then Starfield is some future built off of that
For greener Buffout I recommend some green food coloring then bake them as far away from your hear source as possible. For convection oven that means bottom rack, for Gass oven that means top rack. Also I highly recommend the Bobrov Brothers Cabbage soup. It's so good I've made it a bunch of times.

3:35 I WAS WAITING FOR THAT SOY SAUCE! My wife is Filipina, he's cooking adobo. I fell in love with adobo pretty much immediately. Soy sauce, vinegar, bay leaves, sugar, SPECIFICALLY pork belly is the best! You can make adobo of different meats, but I find pork belly to be the best and so does my wife. Specifically that's, if I'm not mistaken, Tagalog style adobo. Cebuano style adobo (where my wife is from, Cebu, in Visaya or Vasaya) is a bit different and involves deep frying but I digress. She's done a GREAT job at improving her Cebuano style adobo, but I still prefer this Tagalog style. HIGHLY recommend this recipe, she also uses oyster sauce which might be that 'Hoisin' stuff. The difference is, we don't use ginger (though I imagine that might be common in the Philippines), star anise (we ain't that fancy), lemongrass, cardamoms (I don't even know what that is, maybe my wife does), cinnamon, cayenne (good idea though, my wife and I like some spice, perhaps next time we make adobo we'll toss in a bit of cayenne), or peppercorn (though we do typically sprinkle in some black pepper). Bay leaves are always used, as is garlic. Did he include chopped onion? Can't remember, but we always chop up onion and cook it with the meat, which we let cook in the broth itself rather than boiling it beforehand. As the meat cooks, the broth thickens, and I find it DELICIOUS on rice. Look, I'm a simple White man, eating plain white rice ain't happenin'. My wife can have the stuff for breakfast, and I mean PLAIN, not a drop of soy sauce or anything. Makes no sense to me. I need something on it or in it if I'm gonna eat rice. That tagalog adobo sauce... delicious. Makes rice seem like actual food, which I joke to my wife that rice isn't even actual food. Somehow she isn't a fan of pizza or burgers... yeah I don't understand it either. Anyhow, HIGHLY suggest people try out adobo. I never really thought about the Philippines, and never tried Filipino food, until I met my wife. Been trying more and more of their cuisine, almost married for a year now, and I must say I tend to very much enjoy their food. Asian cuisine tends to be dominated by Chinese and Japanese cuisine with a sprinkling of Korean, that's been my experience. If you catch this RUclips comment, highly suggest checking for a local Filipino restaurant or to try making this Deathclaw meal. Make no mistake, its foundation is Filipino adobo, and it fucking rocks. Cheers and God bless! Edit: Wait, BAKE IT?! This is so over-complicated... it's boiled in the pan. Simple as. Don't boil the meat beforehand and don't bake it. Just cook the raw meat in the pan with the broth. Edit2: Oh yeah, almost forgot, my wife tends to prefer pork bouillon rather than chicken. If pork isn't available, then beef bouillon, but chicken seems like a fine substitute though really you could just use salt instead just like we use black pepper instead of those whole peppercorn things which I find to just be a pain. I call them 'pepperbombs' because if you accidentally bite into one, boom, taste of pepper just ends up dominating your mouth. Overly fancy, overly complicated, ground black pepper is better.
The last time Black Isle did any take on Fallout, they fail really hard, you literally need to eat a copium and hate pill to play it and even then, you still can’t even lie to yourself about it
the braised deathclaw steak was somewhat similar when cooking adobo (a dish here in the philippines). The difference were use of spices like lemon grass, cinnamon, cayenne, and cardamon. Also we used the broth from the pork itself not chicken broth
I agree it reminded me of that too but the spices gave it a different flavor profile compared to the ones my mom makes. I love traditional pork adobo though and I usually add extra lime (calamansi if available) or datu puti spicy vinegar
(oh hey MisoHungrie if you really reading this, make the buffout a bit bigger and don't make it super flat because it can cook faster and be brown. I use a normal cookie scoop and lightly flatten it and follow instructions and the cookies came out green) This is my opinion of the cookbook please don't be rude as I explain my opinion. This cookbook is fantastic not only I love fallout but this book is so much fun to read especially the scribble text and "replacements" of meats and vegetables. It even mention some stuff not only in the game but it tells you the stats on what can bring up your special. The food on some of the recipes are pretty good. The instamash is amazing since it's mashpotatoes but a hint of fresh Rosemary and blue cheese and the radstag curry udon is really good. Some recipes even MisoHungrie said is a miss like the buffout recipes, you get a tiny hint of Matcha and a hint of allspice. While the blamco Mac and cheese is a bit watery even by looking at the recipe picture it looks watery. Theirs nothing more for me to say about this cookbook, to me it's one of a kind and a excellent cookbook plus a fun one to cook and to read I give it 9/10
Most important thing for me: The Nuka-Cola syrup is best (personally) mixed into another soda, not tonic/soda water. My favourite mix is the syrup (a couple tablespoons) into some Diet Dr. Thunder. I couldn't get the Mississippi Pie to firm up, I just had liquid. Made good ice cream topping, though. Do you think it could be an altitude issue? I live around 7000 feet. I've also tried the Gecko Kebabs and Cornbread Muffins. Absolutely could (and did) demolish a whole recipe of those in one sitting (multiple times). The Buffout is also good, but once it gets a day or so old, it gets very crumbly (friends have said they're good tea cookies, which is amusing since they're matcha.) My Buffout comes out mostly green like theirs (I suspect theirs is underdone, as mine gets a little brown/tan on the bottom. Additionally, I think I mix my ingredients in a different way... not sure if that would really affect anything, though.) Disclaimer: I don't like tea, but I love the matcha cookies, so if that's anyone else's hang-up, you might actually be okay. :)
If not altitude, I definitely think room/fridge temp can be an issue. I just made Jello for the Pokemon cookbook I uploaded and mine didn't firm up either. Sometimes you just get unlucky. One day I'll try those Cola, kebabs, and cornbread muffin recipes that you mentioned.

Gee Wizz honey, that was a great meal! What's for dessert?
**Buffout.**
*agressively flips table, snap a bobble head, and sarcastically remarks at the child*
Well let’s hope he doesn’t make psycho for the next meal
@@nigel692 Did you like your meal, sweetie?
*FUCKING KILL!*
The braised deathclaw steak looks great it's like a rendition of Japanese, Pork belly Kakuni or Chinese, hong shao rou, As for the cookies made something similar in the past, I think if you want to achieve the colour gotta add some food colouring.
Nice video mate! I hope you'll do more videos with this book.
Definitely will. Thanks!
I saw this video in my recommended feed, and after watching it, I went straight to Amazon and bought the cookbook. I can't wait to see what other outlandish and delicious recipes Victoria Rosenthal has between the covers...
Her cookbooks are awesome! I just recently reviewed her Final Fantasy IV cookbook is also very good and I just recently reviewed her Destiny cookbook if you wanna check that out
The algorithm has done me well. high quality content, subbed! I've seen this cookbook around and always dismissed it as one of those soulless branded cookbooks that just tack character's names onto standard recipes. Glad to see it's better than the Nuka Dark Rum lol
Thanks for the sub! Yeah, this is definitely one of the better cookbooks I've ever bought. Really good stuff in it
I found recently the Fallout cookbook in a bookstore and came back to this video to check if I should buy it, since I am not that into the game franchise.
I concur regarding the desire for simplicity. I'm no cooking enthusiast, and I certainly found almost every recipe to seem very intimidating.
@@Yoshikarter1 I don’t even have the book and the amount of ingredients in the braised deathclaw steak caused me anxiety
Yeah I’ve seen a few of the recipes and I don’t care to try them because of the number of ingredients/steps. I like to cook simple food.
Yeah, especially in the sense of a Wasteland Survival scenario, some of the stuff seems like stuff you'd see inside the White Gloves Casino instead of something Cook-Cook well... cooked.
The scribbled text is such a great idea, helps you find real-life alternative without being immersion breaking
I love it also! Fits the theme perfectly
I need more of this man
"Bethesda's take" lmfao rest in peace Interplay and Black Isle
Dunno if anyone's answered your question or not on 'how to keep the cookies green' but one trick is to freeze them for 20ish minutes before cooking. It means they still cook but don't brown as quickly, which is one way of keeping the colours real bright. Hope this helps!
I actually bought this cookbook and tried it out because of your video. I quite like the recipes thus far (a favorite is the mirelurk queen steak). Thank you for posting quality content.
Nice, I'm glad you like it! I've yet to try the mirelurk queen steak but I'll give it a go one of these days. Thanks for watching!
The vault dwellers forgot to write it but they added Psycho and Jet to the buffout cookies to intensify the green color of the matcha.
@Moll pom well, yeah, the additional notes in the book were written post war
@Moll pom Bethesda changed that with Fallout 4. Apparently the recipe was just changed postwar to make it more potent. Stupid ass retcons.
Cooking time lapses are so relaxing and also make me very hungry
Ive made the missippie quantum pie from that cookbook, its really good, although it turns out that a lot of people get put off by seeing blue when they eat something, even after being told its literally just blue food colouring they seem to think it changes it somehow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We're just meant to be instinctively repulsed by blue food because of the dangers of mold, not really their fault. Sounds like fun, though.
@@bluesonicstreak7317 Theres mould blue, then theres the Neon blue my cake was, and I mean, they'll happily eat cake with iscing that all manor of colours, but mine crossed a line somehow, lol
We live in an era where mad men brine chicken with NyQuil. Anything unnaturally blue is suspect.
Buffout basically being a placebo sugar pill makes so much sense in the Fallout world.
I got this for Christmas and the recipes are cool but my favorite part is the post war changes and little journal entries in it.
Same! A lot of them are pretty hilarious
I think your issue with the cookies is that they were over baked. Since cookies continue baking out of the oven it's a good idea to undertake them by a minute or two when following recipes
Yeah you're right. I think I put them in way too long
Using that dip as a croissant sandwich filling was a good call! Now I really want to try it…
Awesome video man, I suck at cooking and it’s therapeutic to see you making stuff that looks gourmet to be quite frank. Maybe one day I’ll get experimental and get one of these fun cook books.
Thanks Jo! Definitely recommend trying out one of these cookbooks one day. Could be a lot of fun for ya 👍
Everything looks amazing !!!
Thanks Andy!
I'd really love a version of this cookbook but in a more 50s-60s cookbook style with hand drawn food pictures and less/aged photos.
Highly underrated Channel. Cooking snd games. What could be better? As an aspiring chef and video game lover, i really enjoy your content.
Earned my sub
I got this book and my wife cooks. She made the Blanco Mac and cheese and my god.... IT was amazing AF
I almost made that recipe for this video. I'm glad to hear it's amazing, I really gotta try it one day
@@MisoHungrie for our anniversary she made the brahmin steak. it was also a really good one. i cant remember if it was part of the recipe or her own idea. but she made it with a side of asparagus. throw it on a pan little vegetable oil , salt and pepper. but yeah. good shit lol.
@@MisoHungrie sorry for the message spam the mirelurk queen steak is good too. BUT WORD OF WARNING go with allot less of that crab cream cheese stuff on top (take away about 1/3rd ish to 1/2). its really overpowering and kinda took away from the main source of the fish underneath.
i knew in a moment that the braised deathclaw would be good when i see the spices and cooking it with a lot of process
You deserve so many more subs, your production quality is amazing!
Great video! The cookies just look a little over cooked. Try a convection setting if you have it on your oven and use a cooling rack to put the cookies on right after you bake them (the hot cookie sheet will continue to cook the bottom.) You could always use food coloring to get a more vibrant green.
Very good tips! I'll keep these in mind if I try to make these again
I've made the Buffout cookies before! It's basically green tea flavored shortbread IIRC, and you may have just had your matcha clump up when mixing the dough. I really wanna get the cookbook now though to try the rest of the recipes (that Deathclaw one looked AMAZING).
Yeah that's very possible that my matcha clumped up. And yeah the Deathclaw recipe is fantastic!
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next. I'm curious what you'll think of Heroes' Feast: The Official D&D Cookbook.
Definitely on my radar! Got so many I want to try out
The fact sombody had to kill many deathclaws In order to make one dish amazes me
I've got this cookbook as well, made the Mole Rat Manicotti and it was absolutely amazing. Definitely worth a try. As for the Buffout, it might have been a combination of the placement in the oven, and how long you had them in the oven. I had to keep a very close eye on them during baking so I didn't lose the green color.
Yeah it could have been those. I also made them smaller than the recipe so I'm sure that was a factor also.
"Welcome to Camp Navarro. So you're the new replacement... what are you cooking, private?"
Then Starfield is some future built off of that
Your videos are very high quality 👍🏼
Appreciate the feedback. I'm trying to improve on my video shooting and editing skills and this has been a fun way of doing it.
Bless the algorithm! Glad to found your channel, subbed!
I got my matcha cookies to come out bright green. They were honestly delicious and i make them occasionally
Brooo how did you do it?
I've tried 3 times already and jeep failing unless I use food color but that's not the way I'd like it
For greener Buffout I recommend some green food coloring then bake them as far away from your hear source as possible. For convection oven that means bottom rack, for Gass oven that means top rack. Also I highly recommend the Bobrov Brothers Cabbage soup. It's so good I've made it a bunch of times.
Great suggestions! I had a feeling it was too close to the heat and I made them too small. Will definitely check out that soup
The fact that cream cheese was interpreted as a pre war adhesive scares me
My daughter got me this for Christmas... so excited best gift ever
I've really started to enjoy cooking lately so I'll definitely consider trying this book! I love Fallout! Subscribed!
You'll definitely find a lot of gems in this book. Fair amount of beginner friendly recipes too. Have fun cooking!
Seems nice, we should share and teach some of the recipes to the settlements in need. I'll mark them on your map, general.
It makes me sad that Deathclaw meat wasn't crocodile. That would have been both a good fit and delicious.
True, but how many grocery stores sell croc/gator meat?
crocodile meat is not available in most places
What does crocodile meat taste like?
@@N3K0014 I'm actually not joking when I say this, the one time I tried it, it tasted a lot like chicken with a little different aftertaste and more tender.
@@N3K0014 To me, crocodile meat tastes close to white fish. The texture was different from fish though.
I have to get the Bethesda's cookbooks for myself one day. I'm planning to work as a chef in the future so trying these recipes out would help me a lot and be lots of fun to do
That's awesome, I wish you good luck in your training! And yeah I think making these recipes would be a fun way to practice
Omg your content is so well made I thought you had at least 100k subs
Ea: yay you finally know the recipes
Miso: uhu
Ea: greatt *blows up the world with nukes* the more you know
😲
I got the cookbook as a cool thing for my love for fallout. Never endeded up using it. might have to give it a shot someday
The algorithm blessing was deserved my friend. Fantastic video. Hope to see your channel grow.
Thank you kindly!
Please do more from this book. I have the book but the recipes are pretty expensive to make. They have all these whacky spices and use other pretty expensive ingredients so i haven't tried to make anything yet.
Noted! I definitely have my eye on a few more recipes so I'm hoping to make those soon
Was not expecting Buffout to be the desert but I suppose you take what you can get in the wasteland
Patroling the RUclips while hungry almost makes you wish for a plate of Mole Rat Wonder Meat Dip.

I WAS WAITING FOR THAT SOY SAUCE!
Edit:
Wait, BAKE IT?! This is so over-complicated... it's boiled in the pan. Simple as. Don't boil the meat beforehand and don't bake it. Just cook the raw meat in the pan with the broth.
Edit2:
Oh yeah, almost forgot, my wife tends to prefer pork bouillon rather than chicken. Overly fancy, overly complicated, ground black pepper is better.
too long didn’t read
I actually use this cookbook a lot & I've gotta say the food is great!
Agreed! It's good a good set of dishes for sure
Man you're channel need recognition brother
0:05 Haha, "Bethesda's take"
The last time Black Isle did any take on Fallout, they fail really hard, you literally need to eat a copium and hate pill to play it and even then, you still can’t even lie to yourself about it
the braised deathclaw steak was somewhat similar when cooking adobo (a dish here in the philippines).
I use a normal cookie scoop and lightly flatten it and follow instructions and the cookies came out green)
This is my opinion of the cookbook please don't be rude as I explain my opinion.
Theirs nothing more for me to say about this cookbook, to me it's one of a kind and a excellent cookbook plus a fun one to cook and to read
I give it 9/10
I thought I was a huge fallout fan but had no idea this existed, thank you for making this video, definitely going to buy this book.
Hope you enjoy it!
@@MisoHungrie thank you!
the book must've been made moira brown and the lone wanderer
This deathclaw steak looks like a fucking rock
I'm going to be honest here
That deathclaw State recipe is so good that it's actually how I cook things like lamb, pork, and steaks
It's that good
The cocktails in the back are brilliant and the s.p.e.c.i.a.l cocktail punch is great at getting you drunk
Additionally, I think I mix my ingredients in a different way... not sure if that would really affect anything, though.)
Disclaimer: I don't like tea, but I love the matcha cookies, so if that's anyone else's hang-up, you might actually be okay.
I had the same issue with the pie but it was super tasty anyway!! Fwiw I’m at about 400 feet so don’t think it’s the altitude 😻
What if Bethesda made a theme park called Bethesda world with a restaurant with these recipes
I'd go! Would actually be pretty cool to have a post-apocalyptic wasteland theme for a theme park
The Nuka Cola and Cherry Nuka Cola are also delicious. My wife got me the cook book and I've been trying to work my way through it.
They should open a fallout restaurant theme.
I have the cookbook and the Nuka-Quartz and the Fancy lad snack cakes are by far my favorite recipes
Well to me the recipe for NUKA/Quartz is cream soda and condensed milk… I’m from Guyanese decent BTW
Quick reminder: the cookies you made wasn’t bad, but you could use cake flour and sifted it first then mix.👍
Also the matcha powder too.😅
The recipies sound good, I'd just have a hard time to find the ingredients. Who carries matcha powder during the apocalypse?
Could this be the best bit of Fallout content we got over the last six years?
