Just a disclaimer that if you're pretty much any kind of oral medication, you shouldn't ingest activated charcoal, it's *extremely* good at absorbing basically any substance in your digestive system so it can interfere with a wide range of medical treatments! Definitely look it up and if you're not sure, you can always substitute black food colouring or even squid ink like is used in the congee recipe!
thanks for the tip!! my medications are important and not knowing this would’ve been bad 😅 you’ve done a good thing here lol
Yup! Had this problem happen to my mom once with her meds because she heard activated charcoal was good for her from Facebook and decided to try it for a bit. Thankfully she only did it for a few days, felt ill after and stopped before asking her doctor if the charcoal was making her sick. There's a reason the stuff is used by poison control!
star star ex treme ly star star
They should say that in the book, it's pretty important
@@colin5227 true, but i had no idea that was a thing and i like activated charcoal so they probably didn't even know
Never would've guessed that the strange bun and seafoam pudding were savory dishes.
the bun has a periwinkle in it and iirc the pudding does involve fish... but from their looks they do look like desserts
@@gwennorthcutt421 I assumed that since they're pretty much universal hates, they were desserts with fish in them 🤣
@@Llyrically_llama you make a compelling argument! i like to imagine willy does eat seafoam pudding for the massive bonus but its a Struggle
I feel like in this case "pudding" was like... the british word for pudding? The not sweet pudding. I dunno
@@mmb-ig7iq it seems to be based on a rice pudding (well, congee but) so ur prob right!
The idea of the void mayo being a very intense garlic mayo works so well, especially with the ingame text comparing its scent to burnt hair, that makes so much sense with a mayo that smells incredibly garlicky.
So true! I didn't even realize that's what the in-game description said
Black garlic is much, much milder in the garlicky flavor and is sweet and has a flavor somewhat close to dark chocolate, like a hint of that flavor.
tbh I always imagined void mayo to be spicy, what else would those red dots be other than pepper flakes?
Black garlic, Blackberries, Black Squid Ink. Somehow stardew valley ended up the spookiest most goth cookbook episode
well we do only have 2 months till halloween...
Thank you Emily for inventing salad
I can't believe salad never existed up until Emily's amazing idea... Queen behavior! 👑✨
my wife's kinda goated actually
I'm really glad they didn't dumb this down. There are so many easy recipes out there, sometimes you want something more complex. And it's in the spirit of the game, as it's all about slow living. That's why JoJa Mart sells so much instant junk, to really highlight that contrast.
I will not tolerate this JoJa mart slander
@@MagicMonkey96it's not slander if it's just stating facts
@@MagicMonkey96why? what's good about joja mart?

as a starvew valley player i love the dedication to making the recipes look as accurate as possible, i tried to make radish salad from stardew using just radishes oil and vinegar and it was just okay
Yeah I really like how accurate some of the recipes look. The Lucky Lunch looks really cool!
This cookbook must be amazing for vegetarians given that the base game doesn't have that many meals which use meat.
It is!
I was so excited to hear that as a pescatarian myself + dividing it by using season is such a great way to simplify cooking w seasonal, fresh ingredients for real cooks to try at home ❤
Pescatarian too because it does use fish quite a bit.
How did I play this game for years and not notice this?!
The cookbook must be terrible for normal healthy non fanatified adults 😢
I’ve made quite a few recipes in this cookbook and one of my biggest gripes is no listed cook time. I had to read through the massive text to find out eggplant parm takes like 2 hours to cook.
glad to see a video with three wins and also a cookbook that isn't basic. not a stardew fan but will look out for it
Very impressed by the cookbook - even ignoring the theme I think there are some really good recipes in here that a lot of people will enjoy 👍
I love the ideia "Is the cookbook good ?" then proceeds to do the most strange recipes inside it lol. Nice video!
the tropical curry recipe is really good!!! especially if you add seafood (i added white cod), its really yum in the pineapple bowls
That sounds delicious!
“Tom Nook gave me an entire island.”
Er…well…not really GAVE, but…still a decent burn there!
He did give it to you. You have full control over it and he only charges you for the house on it. Which you never have to pay back if you don't want to.
@@jadaw644Tom Nook is remarkably chill dude, all told.
@@jadaw644 Yeah…Tom Nook is kinda a Saint if you really think about it! But, still…you DO have that debt and you eventually end up giving property to a few others.
Tom Nook is a straight up villain
What’s the point of an island if you can’t turn it into an industrial complex though?
Man, first I make the farmers lunch from this book and then I see this video. Yep, today is a good day
How was the farmers lunch? I was really tempted to make the lucky lunch - I love how the star looks in the middle ⭐
@@MisoHungrie ahh, you’re thinking of lucky lunch. The farmers lunch was the omelette with roasted parsnips and arugula. It was really good and so fun to make, but I accidentally burned it a tiny bit
I actually went through the cookbook and compared the ingredients of each dish to the ingredients needed to make it in-game to see if they would include everything, and they almost all did! the only exceptions were either things that exist in SDV that don't exist in real life [e.g. 'Midnight Carp' is just carp], or more complicated recipes like Lucky Lunch, Strange Bun, and Seafoam Pudding. But even then, it was only ever just *one* ingredient or aspect that was clearly changed so things could taste good or are more easily accessible. for example, in-game the ingredients for Strange Bun are flour, void mayonnaise, and periwinkle (a type of sea snail). fully makes sense to sub lobster in for those, I didn't even know periwinkles were edible until I looked it up lol. extremely accurate, good-looking stuff, 10/10
when this book was first revealed last year i KNEW you had to make a video on it. and it truly didn't disappoint, i love this episode!
Glad you enjoyed it! From the moment the cookbook was announced I was already planning on the video haha
A new cookbook critique, and from one of my favorite games, AND the recipes are actually legit? This is good eatin'!
Babe wake up cookbook critique just dropped
Yessss thank you so much miso for your review!! I love how they kept the theme from the games. The font size and wordiness of recipes look a bit annoying but still this book looks like a great collector’s item for sdv players. Thank you!
100% agree! It's the perfect love letter to Stardew ⭐
I have a bunch of berry bushes behind my house and can't wait to try out the cobbler recipe with fresh berries later this year!! Also as always, love the intro 😂
cobbler really cant be beat! i think the biscuit recipe is a little fussy though, just cut the butter into slicers then smash away with a pastry cutter until its pebbly. mix quickly and knead very lightly (like 8-10 times) and you're ready to drop the dough!
god i’ve been WAITING for this video!!! thank you so much for this and giving me a lot more confidence to purchase a hardcover even more! 💜💜
Hope you enjoy it! The book is pretty awesome
Periwinkles are actual mollusks that are kinda hard to get, but there's very little meat, so another substitute could be crawfish or freshwater muscles. Costco lobster is too tasty for its price though.
You had me sold with the seafoam pudding. Congee is one of my all time favorite foods and I’m on that stardew bender
I’ve preordered the book and read it all immediately when it came I was really hoping you’d make this video! I’ve only made one recipe so far but i was really happy with it I love the book and the game so thanks for making this video!
What did you end up making? Whatever it was I hope it was tasty!
I made the complete breakfast! There’s not much to do wrong but I was kind of worried by the rhubarb compote not expecting to like it but I really loved it
So happy to see you do this cookbook and especially try the Strange Bun recipe! That one's on my to do list. I'm definitely going to try cooking those baked Pepper Poppers next week. If even Shane likes them enough to cook them homemade they have to be good 😂
Oh man those pepper poppers look so good! 🌶🌶🌶
I got this cookbook and made the rubarb pie, it was amazing. Like a tart Apple Pie.
I was so excited when I got this cookbook, but I can't really make anything from it because a lot of the ingredients are expensive and/or hard to come by
Yeah I don't mind more involved dishes that take time but some ingredients are tough.
You can always substitute for cheaper, easier to find ingredients when needed.
This happened to me with the Sonic cookbook... why are they all so difficult to find and prepare?
Ever since I heard about this cookbook coming out, I've been so hyped for a video from Miso.
I have to buy this cookbook! I LOVE Stardew Valley, and I need it for my little collection, if nothing else, but I feel I'd definitely cook some things from it.
i've been waiting for this ever since the cookbook came out i love ur videos so much even though they make me hungry
Glad you like them! 😋
Miso! that opening was amazing! haha keep up the great work. (also so happy that this was a good cookbook! its in my amazon cart now haha)
The opening was amazing as always! Bravo! 👏👏👏👏
Your videos are such a joy to watch! So laid back and relaxing, while also providing great solid feedback about the cookbooks you're reviewing. I've loved cooking, cookbooks, and cooking magazines since I was a kid, and it's always disappointing to find a media tie-in cookbook that hasn't put any thought or effort into its theming and recipes. I really appreciate how thoroughly you talk about all the elements of each book from presence or lack of pictures, to clarity of the cooking instructions, to how good the recipes actually taste, to how well the cookbook actually does the job of being a themed cookbook. I've never played SDV myself, but it sure sounds like a lot of care was put into making this cookbook a real love letter to the fans!
I can see how much you’ve grown as a creator and this video is top tier!!!!
I'm so glad you made these! I think this is a genuinely interesting cookbook because the recipes are so varied, seasonal, and still have the quirkiness of the game!
I'am always looking forward to your cookbook reviews.
I always watch them when I eat so it automatically tastes better ^^
I already rewatch your reviews. Looking forward to the next one ;)
Thanks so much for your funny, entertaining, comfy and amazing reviews
Thank you so much! Glad you like them and I hope you enjoy the future videos to come 😊
"Is there a Costco nearby?" LOL you seriously rock!! 🤣
I’ve never cooked in the game and I honestly thought that the Strange Bun had a fruit filling, like a plum purée or something 😂
Man, hoss, you went for the esoteric ones. That's why I love your channel.
I did not know there was a Stardew Valley cook book! Absolutely have to get it now. How you cooked everything seemingly so easily makes me want to try it out.
This hands-down pushed me into getting the cookbook for myself. I can't wait to try out the Survival Burger!
We need a series of this book.
"A stellar game" I see what you did there
OMG. I was hoping you'd do this!!!
Lucky Lunch is definitely my summer go-to. Trying to stick with seasonal dishes, so I'm really looking forward to fall!
MisoHungrie thank you for making videos they are really awesome, engaging and creative and fun
The first thing I made from the cookbook was Evelyn's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Best cookies I've ever had- even used some Mexican vanilla too! Everyone I know wants more of the cookies but they don't want to go through the process of making them
The opening and strawdew gameply bit was suuuper cute!!! I definitely need to get this cookbook since i enjoy veggies more than meat!
Thanks For this miso! Love your videos! You're the Best ❤❤❤❤❤
I got this cookbook and im in love! The cheese cauliflower was really good and the pineapple curry has been added to our rotation of meals :)
I'm so mad I got covid right after getting this book, but now that im better im going to be trying these. That strange bun looks way better than i expected.
I'm personally excited to try the curry, since I do love my curry. Granted I'm not familiar with Jamaican curry which it calls for, so I'm excited to try!
The Queen of Sauce!! It's the first time I've seen her and she's so pretty!!
i have the cookbook on hold at the library and im sooo excited to get it i couldn't resist watching your video first! :D
Yessss I was waiting for a review of this! 😍😍
I just subbed not long ago, like... Tonight. I am not disappointed after watching your Avatar and then came to this. I had a great giggle at the intro for your video and will progressively watch more!
Great job! :3
Wow, thank you! Welcome to the channel 😀
Just like the game, the cookbook is incredibly charming and made with passion, really worth the wait!
I refuse to believe that Shane invented the recipe for the strange bun. It’s way too complicated for the dude.
I could watch all the recipes in this book😍
I love how squid ink is such an obstacle for many people. Here in spain we use it all the time (actually black rice with squid is a very common, and delicious, dish). Cheers!
I got this cookbook as a gift and the visuals and theming are excellent, but I did find selecting recipes to try a very daunting task! It's true that many ingredients in this book can be hard to get or very expensive. As well, many recipes might not satisfy picky eaters and will be difficult to modify. I didn't find many of them to sound appetizing upon first read (this has to due with my aversion to specific vegetables from how they were poorly cooked when I ate them growing up), but this video has certainly made me want to step further out of my comfort zone to try them!
Lol the random name they gave my cat in my last time playing was Miso 🥰 just found your channel. So glad I did!
Just when my Stardew valley addiction started again ❤❤❤❤
OMG YOU DID IT THANK YOU💕
I love this channel
You could use squid ink or black food coloring instead of the activated charcoal.
Or Void Eggs, if you can find 'em
strange bun being an excessively decadent lobster dish with a brioche bun was unexpected. wow. i'd make that at home lol.
Yeah I never would have thought of that. I love the interpretation though!
0/10 Strange buns didn't use periwinkles and void mayo didn't use void eggs from void chickens.
If you read this i hope you have a amazing day and year also god bless you even if you are having a bad day all you need to know it will be fine and I and all of my brothers support you ❤❤❤
Have you tried the Bluey Cookbook?? It’s at target!!!
I wanted to watch a good video of this cookbook! Thanks for the video i hope you post other recipes
This cookbook is way more like something you'd get from food magazines than other licensed cookbooks. I have qualms with the inclusion of activated charcoal in the void mayo recipe, even if it's probably fine in that small of an amount, I don't think it was necessary to include if there was any risk at all, but that was probably my only issue with the whole book. The fruit salad recipe goes crazy. A lot of licensed cookbooks would just tell you to chop the stuff up and put it together, but they have you poach the apricots in wine with a vanilla bean.
the difference between jams and preserves is the size of the fruit pieces
I loved that void mayo, I want to make some to put whatever
Thanks for the video! Good to know it's not super beginner friendly
Fuck it we ball
YESSSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEOOOOO
Man i love your reactions when you eat the food, it makes me want to make it myself
Thank you! You should definitely go try to make it 👍
What a coincidence, I just started the game on Monday
I didn't watch it yet, if this cookbook doesn't slap I'm gonna flip. Stardew should be perfect to make a cookbook about.
Edit: I'm glad it does do the slapping
0:34 Hold up, where are those stickers from? They're SO CUTE!
this video slaps. keep up the amazing work :)
finally!
amazing intro and video!
I’m gonna try that blackberry cobbler for my grandpa, he loooooves his cobblers
Not to be pedantic but I just double checked the recipe for seafoam pudding and the matchstick ginger is meant for garnish instead of the marinade. Only the grated ginger is meant for the marinade.
Everything looks so good
This made me hungry 🤤
I was waiting for this one. LETS GOO
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! You are a PRO in cooking, ur effortless hehe imma sub!!! PLS MAKE MORE VIDS LIKE THIS
The pink cake is delicious, but came out a lot flatter than the picture in the book. (Not dense, i think they might have stacked more than two cakes.)
I did use a nearly identical strawberry buttercream frosting recipe instead of the cream cheese frosting in the book. I don't like frosting enough to use an entire POUND of cream cheese. Tastes great fresh, even better 5-10 minutes after pulling a slice out of the freezer.
Side note: i was shocked to learn that duck eggs are bigger than chicken eggs. I used XL chicken eggs because they were available.
Do you have a recipe for the strawberry buttercream you used? Sounds way tastier!
Strange bun had a lot more steps than I thought it would lol
I would rather have a sweet strange bun with taro inside or something purple
This cookbook looks lovely! If I want to buy the cookbook but I am from germany, does the affiliate link work clicking on it on my phone and directly getting linked into the amazon app?
I'm honestly not too sure how it works internationally as the link is for the US site, but regardless I hope you enjoy the book when you get it!
Someone needs to make a cooking mama mod for stardew using this guide as reference lol
From Exotic butters of FNAF to Void Mayo of Stardew Valley 😂😂😂
What a time to be alive for this cookbook
It's Makes Sense That These Recipes Have No Animal Meats In Them, As You Can't Harvest Animal Meat In Game! What A Neat Detail!
amazing vid man 🧑🌾🧑🌾
That is a great looking book. I tried to play the game but I gave up after about an hour. I have a hard time playing games if I have too many options and not enough direction.🙃
Totally get you. I've played a lot of Stardew and I still get overwhelmed sometimes by the amount of tasks I wanna do lol
i think i might get this!!!
I'm trying to adapt the Pink Cake recipe to a no sugar added version. I already found a place that sells duck eggs. Wish me luck!
I know it's made with squid ink, in game... But the seafoam pudding graphic is bright green, so I was NOT expecting that monstrosity.
Also, a periwinkle is a sea snail, so... unsure why lobster was the chosen seafood for the strange bun.
Would you ever do the iconic pink cake?
