I mean don’t get me wrong I love getting railed by big fish. But you can have equal enjoyment out of smaller fish on the right gear. In aus I fish 4lb line and 1-2kg sticks all the time and a 40cm fish feels like a monster
Cheers bro. Ive been converted for sure. Last time i was out in Adelaide, i took my boat out and needed a jig fix. so scaled it down on the lightest gear i have and microjigged up so many mackerel and a heap of flounder in 15m too! man they catch everything
Awesome vid mate.....got a few flea micros after your other vid last week.....gave them a whirl near the Harbour bridge....no joy but great to not have stinky bait hands at the end of the session!!
Cheers man. Yea central harbour probably wouldn’t be a prime spot for numbers. I’d say target more known ground. Anywhere of Takapuna cliffs produces quite well. But this weekend just been was as dead as. We burned all over for two small snapper
@@AdriftFishing haha u definitely had the idea for sure. i think the main lake of rotorua might b a good place to try that method due to the size and abundances of trout especially at this time of the year
@@AdriftFishing have done a little on trout last year at Rotoiti with the micros definitely gets attention however some adjustments are required to the hook rigs so good luck!
I’ve got a few snaps and ky doing it and similar style quite a few kingfish with 180g jigs. Works a treat man. This months comming fishing news in a few days should have my article on horizontal jigging for kingfish ;)
Great stuff and love the micros. Its fifteen years since my addiction to them started with snapper using grim reapers initially then more seriously ten years ago using the Zest metal leaf jigs before they have become more mainstream. On another note just one bit of advice dude, lose that inflatable life jacket as its not a good idea with the kayak and saltwater. The mechanism can develop problems because of water contact (happens on the kayak a lot) and when you need it the PFD may not inflate. It can also get in the way when trying to get back on the kayak after capsize. Have you tried this yet as many new comers are getting into trouble because they have not practiced re-entry from open water. keep up the good work cheers!
Hey man cheers for the comment. lol you mention the grim reapers. I remember them. I have even mentioned them in the article in this months NZ fishing news. Love the jigging its great fun. Cheers for the tip on the jacket. Wasn't aware of that. TBH with the inflatable its just a for now thing and i'm never more than 100m from shore and always only on a variable day (unless it blows up), it mainly gets used in lakes. I've owned vikings and hobbies before so re entry inst a problem. and for a laugh i can actual stand up fly fish in this rubber ducky. but i am also a surfer so its cheating a bit. But i did bail out of my hobie once taking a stand up pee and watched a bird fly over head.... then ended up having a swim haha!
@@AdriftFishing cool as I thought so and the inflatable thing was more about others watching as it sends the wrong message to newbies. My next article in NZ Fishing news covers some serious issues that can and have happened to kayak anglers so that may give you an idea. As for jigs bro they are the bomb and definitely my main style of fishing plus such good fun cheers
You just off Hatfields/Waiwera there mate? I took the Kayak off Tindalls on Friday morning, managed 3 on small skirted SB's but no interest in the flea, was trying this method too. Good to have a few options in the arsenal ay. Love your vids bro, keep em coming!
Yeah that’s the spot bro. If that was this weekend just been it was tough for everyone. We were on the boat from takapuna, Gardner’s, noises and beyond for two snapper on all methods. It was crazy quiet. But yeah man go the fleas they are deadly aye.
Nice. I've been shore jigging for a few years now. The fishing from shore is a bit average where I am in Wellington, but I've refined my technique and will need to take it around the country to try. I get custom shore jigs from Singapore, as there is virtually nothing available in NZ. Quite like the Majorcraft jigpara series, Shimano soare metal shot tg, and Duo drag metal cast. Good technique, more people should try it in NZ!
For sure bro. Add to that list if you can find them daiwa sacrifice jigs. I had to make my own cause I couldnt find them. 3 days straight I got out fished by my mate casting at the same schools of kings he got 60 over 3 days I got 7. They are deadly
Yeah man it’s a aqua marina v2 inflatable from burnsco. It’s pretty cool. Ideally I would have a hobie, but I do a bit of trout fishing and I like to do rivers and lakes and the idea of leaving the yak on the roof for hours in the bush made me look at the inflatables. This one has two big sup fins front and back for tracking and an inflatable keel. It works pretty good but does get wind blown a bit. Stable as man I can stand up and fly fish in it. But I do have surfer/boarder balance. She does the trick though.
Fantastic video bro and made me super excited to try micro jigging off the Kayak - this is a very generous channel in that respect. Had some luck at the reefs off St Heliers recently, but just starting to get into it so lots to still learn. How do you go about selecting likely (tide) times and spots using a map (Wetmaps?) for instance? So far my experience is on the outgoing, looking close to some structure. But thinking that areas of good current might also be good? Want to get an idea of what a good spot looks like for this technique and how best to do the homework prior to a session out on the yak.
Glad you liked it man. Heaps more to come. I prefer last of incomming or first half of outgoing. You want to be rear structure but not too rocky or you’ll loose a few. I have done quite well with it in Sandy areas with worm or clicker beds locally most of the coast line on the shore and whangaparoa will be good for this style. Also deadly under workups too. Good luck man!
very clear explanation and helpful video.. am trying micro jig next time am kayak fishing..
Love this style of fishing aye. Smaller the better lol
@@AdriftFishing yes the pleasure you get when using light tackle is awesome..

Awesome, will try this out next weekend in case they are not interested on the SB. Cheers for the tips
No worries man. Hopefully their on. The last two weekends in the gulf have been tough on every lure and technique lol
How fun are micro jigs :D good stuff mate

should try shore jigging for the trout that would b epic to see.

When I cruise back to oz later on I’ll get another kayak I think. I’ve still got the boat but I’m enjoying the portability of the kayak aye
