  • I had an amazing time in Zambia recently visiting South Luangwa National Park. I also, had the opportunity to give the RF400mm a real test along with the Canon R5.
I was also able to record and analyse some of the Auto Focus settings which I’d like to share in this video, along with the results of how accurate the eye detect auto focus actually is with this camera and lens pairing.
It was a really great trip despite the mosquitos, I managed to see quite a lot of action, especially with the Lion pride, which was the main highlight during the 4 days I was there.
After quite a long journey I finally arrived at the lodge in South Luangwa, but there was no time to rest, I was ready to go straight out into agame drive.

Thanks for the comment. It was a great trip. I think there's an RF200-500 f/4 on its way.

Must be careful, playing with AF modes so often at sightings. You're better off watching and staying ready for the right moments. You might miss focus for a frame or two but it should often come good with good technique. A couple missed frames is alot better than not having been ready to fire entirely

I agree, the same case would have been fine with manual control of where to focus. Super trip and some cools pics however

This is beautiful work. Do you have a recommendation for the tour company driver and vehicle that you refer to in this video?

Excellent shots. But why so many at F4? I have the EF version II of the 400mm but its extremely sharp at F2.8.

Thanks for viewing. The lens is actually much sharper at f4. Plus during the day with so much light i don't really need f2.8 so f4 works better. But usually for sports i'm shooting at f2.8 as the depth of field looks magical.

Standard Canon R5. However, it didn't stop me from working.
