Good tips. Those big Pinfish usually avoid my trap like that, good haul! I was hoping you'd show what you do to be able to put the Sabiki rig back into your tackle bag. I quit using those store bought ones a long time ago.
Well JC, you are a smart man! Josh has taught me a time or two how to make them from scratch. But truthfully the only time I use a sabiki is on the bridge. So I’m lazy and just grab one, hehehee! One day I might be wise like yourself 🤦🏻♂️ or not
Hey JC I use a sabiki rod, when I’m done just reel it in and be ready for next trip. Also the lowest two hooks is where the fun happens and so when they break the hook I just re-tie the weight higher. Also I’d rather tip these tiny hooks with squid, because the squid stays on for multiple hook ups. Life is fun... live it! See ya!
Hey Chris.. I've never tried fishing off Skyway Pier.. I've wanted to but never got around to it. I've done the first method from a boat, but didn't know about the trap.. Great video and thanks for sharing.. Always your friend, fan, and subscriber.
Let's be honest Rick, you arent missing to to much there. We should go sometime, though! Better get up here to Tampa Bay before all the fish die from piney point 😡
@@CaptChrisCanning The Piney Point thing makes me so mad especially when the owners said the problem wasn't their fault. . Ugh. They should fine the hell out of them..☹
Hey Chris I was hoping to see you take the bait fish you just caught of that hook and put right on the the hook you were using them for. Up north here we take salmon eggs and wrap them in nylon netting you buy in a fabric store and tied up for small bait sacks. They stay on the small hook better. Stay Well my friend and God Bless ✝
So why not put some ( fish gum or squid ) on there something the bait isn’t gonna steal so quick, also make up a frozen chum ball, mix ( corn meal or oatmeal a can of mackerel or some cut up green backs and mix with water some times people mix a handful of sand in it for weight, then form a dough ball put on a plastic sandwich bag and freeze , take with to your favorite fishing spot and toss one out if it’s calm water or put in a plastic onion bag tie a cord on or use in a bait trap , it works great if you want to attract fish for cast netting to , 👍🏼 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Love the tips here David! That’s the great thing about this platform, everyone has their little secrets that might help make someone else successful. We have used squid, but find it isn’t nearly as affective. That’s a solid idea for chumming too. Thanks for watching David!
How deep is it under the pier and do you need a net on a rope. I'm a complete saltwater noob. Proficient bass angler up north never lived near the ocean.
Works like a charm 👀
Every time! I'd say I have learned a thing or two over the years. hehe
Sabiki rig is my go to for sure!

Thank you for the bait catching tips. Just ordered a Pinfish trap ✔️ Any recommendations on aerators.
I would probably take a look at the New Engel one. I bet it last longer than the crappy ones that always rust out
