    Alright obviously one of the best Banshee builds on youtube in my opinion
    one question, when you use that buffing wheel what type of stone do you put on it before you go in on the bumper

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the great compliment! :) That buffing compound came from my grandfathers I'm pretty sure. It's been around for like 50-60 years. I'm pretty sure it's just a regular green buffing stone though. If you search "green buffing compound" on google, you will find it.

    The finished product looks good, and I like the color and flake... but it would have done you a world of good to use 240 or something around there and lay another primer down before the 500 grit. You can still see some of the scratches in a few shots, and I can bet that you can see them even more clearly in person. 500 grit sand paper won't take the 80 grit scratches out... you have to step it up to the 500 (at least a little bit).

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад

      You are 100% right dude. The scratches don't jump out at you, especially now that the graphics are on it, but stepping up would have been a better idea.

    I'm in the process of laying down a new color for my banshee. Thinking I should have gone with a metallic black. And after seeing this I'm probably going to put some clear coat.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад

      Good idea. The clear makes it super glossy plus it protects your finish.

    How many cans of paint did it take? Thinking about painting mine. Found a awesome website that's has sick spray paint canz. Used them a few times before. There called Kustom Canz wanna go with there Oriental Blue Pearl.

  • @Scythe_Voltage
    @Scythe_Voltage 4 года назад

    400 grit is the best to use when painting plastics, just a little tip because if u look closely at the plastics after u painted them u can barely see the scratches that 80 grit paper did to them

    • @midwestmommabear7869
      @midwestmommabear7869 3 года назад

      Plus make sure you clean it thoroughly with a safe degreaser or alcohol BEFORE you sand so you don’t seal oils from hand prints in unless you use gloves before and during. Best prep for no scratching or bubbles

    What paint did you use for the base coat? It looks like it has flakes/sparkle in it.

  • @Ryan-rm2qk
    @Ryan-rm2qk 7 лет назад +1

    Very nice. That plastic turned out amazing I like the sparkle hint to it. How do you like the maier fenders? I heard their fit and finish wasn't too good and you had to drill out all the mounting holes. True? I have been wanting new fenders for my bike, I have oem White that I race cut and kicking myself every ride for cutting them. Would like a full set. I also had center mount Cpi silencers at one point, so my tool storage area is also all cut out. Anyway good job man keep the videos coming, I like watching your progress

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks man! I'm happy with the way they came out too. I noticed that the Maier fenders and a little smaller than the OEM ones and the finish isn't as "perfect" I guess, as the OEM. They're perfectly fine though; at least the fronts are. I will have to see when the rears finally come in.
      Race cut fenders are a pain; Idk how people ride with them if they're on the trails. I had race cut on my LT250r and I used to get covered in mud almost instantly lol

  • @_2Pety
    @_2Pety 7 лет назад +1

    Would you say older banshees are just as good as the newer ones?

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад

      In most cases, yes. There were not many changes over the years. The biggest difference is when they changed from the J-arm to the A-arm. I definitely think that's an improvement, but otherwise, they are all basically the same. Of course a newer one will have less hours and wear than an older one if it's not restored.

    • @_2Pety
      @_2Pety 7 лет назад +1

      Michael Sabo thank you sir. I want one. Banshees seem to be the best ones I've seen so far. They look really good and look like they rip on the videos I've seen. Love the color you chose for yours as well. Keep up the good work.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад

      Thanks brother, I appreciate your compliments! They are definitely fun quads; a little more temperamental than other quads, but definitely beasts when they're running right and the aftermarket is practically endless for them.

    • @MichaelSabo

    Nice helpful video ... rebuilding my yz250 . What kind of stripper did you use for the plastics and blue to get the flakes in the paint ?

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад

      Hey man; the blue is a metallic paint from rustoleum; nothing special! But it has a great finish and holds up well. I use aircraft grade stripper to remove paint from plastics, here is a video I made on it...

    It still shows the scratches from the sandpaper

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  5 лет назад +1

      Faintly, yes; the graphics cover it and it's not a show quad but if you go with a finer grade sand paper you can get rid of the fine scratches.

  • @treefrog9822

    so how is the paint holding up so far at 8 months time? Is there any peeling or cracking?

  • @mingling1182
    @mingling1182 7 лет назад +1

    if you were to do it again would you sand it to 500 before primer? what kind of paint did you use? and how is it holding up? is there anything you would do differently the 2nd time around?

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, I would sand to 500 grit the first time around. I used rustoleum primer for plastic and rustoleum base coat and clear. As far as holding up, only time will tell, but rest assured, it will be put to the test.

    • @herbertmartin4320
      @herbertmartin4320 6 лет назад +1

      Ok I asked questions earlier but I got the answers after reading your comments but one last question how much time in between coats did you wait primer, base coat and clear

  • @_2Pety
    @_2Pety 7 лет назад +1

    Anytime bro. What would be a good price to pay for a decently used one?

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  7 лет назад

      Oh man, there are so many Banshees and so many different variations (mods) and conditions. If you can find a decent one that's relatively stock and has a title, depending on your location, 1500-2000 is a good deal.

    Did or will the paint hold up to spilled gas?

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  6 лет назад

      So far it is holding up and I've spilt gas all over. I think the clear coat is the key.

  • @herbertmartin4320

    And what spray paint did you use and what clear did you use

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  6 лет назад

      I used a primer for plastic, metallic base coat and clear coat all by rustoleum. Basic stuff all available at walmart.
