I like how it says "Bali Song" in the butterfly logo where "Benchmade" would usually be. Not into bali songs but I know a premium blade when I see one. Nice to take a look at this one.
I've never seen it before but that's how it works you wrap the Velcro around your belt or bag straps ide guess you are right about the nylon belt alot of people wear those.. Thanks for sharing brother I'm not personally interested in balisongs but cool to see
I tried to get good with a Bali a few years ago and still have a scar on my finger to prove it. That is a beautiful knife and maybe need to give it a second chance. I don’t need all my fingers, right?:)
Lol.. You can always get a Bear Ops to see if you like it. They run about $40-200 depending on the model. Definitely a great option to test the waters. 🍻
@@blu2803 No not at all... you wouldn't notice a difference unless you held them both side by side. They're all usually pretty well balanced. Though I can't speak for this one... I do have another Benchmade Bali that feels pretty good and almost identical to the Bear Ops.
You velcro it on your belt for scout carry or what ever carry, im pretty sure. Also when you do a balisong video you should show the tap and play, so the tap is when its closed you shake it and see how much it makes noise and the play is when you slightly open it and ben the handles back n forth to see how much play it has. Just letting you know I didn't know any of that either until I learned about it, great video, that magnetic spring is cool, I dont think I've ever seen that before, great video
Benchmade NEEDS to upgrade the steel on the Bali's for the prices they are asking. Insane. Other makers are not lagging. Dirk, can you please explain to us how smooth the actions is? please....
Back in the late seventies and early 80's they were simply known as the Bali-song company, operating out of Burbank CA. The sheath was known as a "Cocoon." I owned a good half dozen at one time, wearing one horizonally on my belt and practicing the draw by grabbing the handles between thumb and index finger and peeling back the Velcro in one movement. Prior to the genesis of Benchmade all balis were hand machined and blades custom ground by famous Hollywood sword maker, Jodi Samson. I must say that the price of this model 87 is prohibitive. Shouldn't be a factory knife at $650. Even after almost 40 years it's not a fair dollar inflation. I was paying $200 for their custom balis. LOL
Good balis operate on a totally different level of tolerances than most folders and are generally much harder to make and less lucrative, according to multiple makers I've spoken to. If you ever get your hands on a dobruski or balibalistic, you'll be amazed. I got 2 87s and they're okay. Not for flipping as much as edc.
You can slip the 2 strips in to wear the sheath on your belt horizontally or the use one to wear it vertically, I personally keep it on my belt vertically, and because it’s a stretchy material, I use it for more than just my 87
I was wondering about this one. I like it but I'm not sure if I like it enough for the price. That's a new marauder or pt slim lol. But I do really like it though regardless. Looks well made up close. I'm sure I'll eventually scoop one up. I usually do 😂🍻
@@DirkWerning hahahaha. I feel ya. I can only do the basics what the them. There are some true artists out there though, so fast you almost need slow motion video to even follow what their doing. Great video btw. I was just messin with my first comment. Hahaha. Happy Father's day man!
I never had a bali I would like to try 1But I don't want to buy a cheap 1Spending that much money on a knife that I don't know if I would like is a problem for me

blindmelonlemonjello thanks. I love showing stuff off
You use the velcro strap to make a belt loop, for vertical or horizontal carry. Or for lashing to molle gear.
Cool review as allways dirk you should do a brs bufferfly knifes
Daniel Bowering I’ll look into it. Just need some to loan one in.
If I had one I would let you mate I have a shiro neon light if that might float your boat for something different to review
It is a beautiful piece for sure very nice machining and finishing I really like the blade shape but way over my price range but another great review

Born of Blades exactly fingers are overrated.
Cool knife. I've never handled a bali, but I could put a wear line in a shirt pocket like nobody's business with that sharpie marker. :)

@@Tier1GearEDCReviews Does the blade shape or length affect how hard it is to flip or (play with)? I like the look of the tanto version.

I think the Velcro is for tactical vest

Dave Everett thanks soooo much for the info that’s GREAT.
Sorry if I missed it, but is your model 87 a V1 or V2? Do you know what changes they made? (info online is iffy!)
I don’t recall it was just in on loan. Sorry.
That is a fantastic looking blade. I need to check this one out.

Cool knife but not very practical.
Donald Perreault completely agreed. But my personal collection...has a lot of awesome impractical pieces 😂😂😂
Donald Perreault speak for yourself
Michael Jackson I think that is what I was doing, speaking for myself.
