Eric, thank you so much as I have always struggled with the pinky stretch(small hands) in the boogie part of the song so stopped playing it.You have just opened my eyes to a much simpler alternative that I can use in other songs. Thanks again
would be so cool to see someone present this in such a way to capture the MOJO of this song..I think perhaps there needs to be a slight bend on the power chord of B flat... Billy was a MOJO genius. Not knocking the lesson here but it's so rare I ever hear anyone play this where it dosent sound lame
Really helpful lesson, thank you. The lick at the end Boogie licks for people with small hands are impossible on the 7th and 9th frets cos we can't reach the 12thto complete the lick. A boogie lesson for strummers with small hands would be invaluable. I would love to play Walk This Way and glam rock but I can't reach!
Too funny... time to learn this one... and BAM! there you are again! Glad to see you teaching this one, means I've got a good chance of getting it down!
Love your version. And btw - Songsterr's tabs matches your version as well. love the original boogie licks - but need to really stretch. haha - your way is much easier and good as a campfire song
Thanks Erich, nice lesson, really liked your closing thoughts at the end, couldn't agree more, this world can change through us with unconditional love and forgiveness toward all. Good to hear someone else saying that:)
Easiest songs to learn...ZZTop....!!!Try " My heads in Missippi"...!!!Or even better yet "Pearl neckless"...or "Rough Boy"... Eric should know most of them...
yourguitarsage I didn't do that when I was young...wanted Jimmy Page...NOW! No 3 P's and I lost interest. Not now, though! Keep up the great lessons, bro!
It seems like you are palm muting on both up and down strum in the boogie woogie part. Any suggestions how to do this. I am having trouble muting on the up stroke.
Do you have the tablature available for this way you are playing it? My mobile screen makes it kinda hard to follow, so having some tabs would be a YUGE bonus for me 😎
Hey Eric, as Phil said, thanks for the boogie woogie alternative. I have hands the size of a five year old, so the pinky stretch has always been challenging to say the least. I play everything on a Strat for now. The Les Paul Standard is coming. I just discovered your channel, and have subscribed. Love search "yourguitarsage"... for whatever you need. Love the channel. I will be visiting often. Thanks again!
awesome ... Point is, and thats the common thread in your lessons, you do it nice and easy with the ;-) which is needed. Thus you make sound it easy even when its not. Great achievement Thank You Sir, Yes Sir Sage Sir ;-)
+heinbldski thank you so much my friend! Yes, I'm very pleased with it. I'm using an OCD distortion pedal through a Fender blues Junior. The Masters is at 10 and the volume is about at two. Reverb is at two in the equalizer is set flat.
Thank you so much Alfredo! I'm using an OCD distortion pedal through a Fender blues Junior. I have the master cranked to 10 and the volume on about two. The gain on the OCD pedal is about at five.
Thank you Erich! I follow you from italy and you are helping me so much with guitar!! thank you!! ps. my cat doesn't like electric guitar! too noisy for her!! :D
You are welcome Mustang! So glad the vids are helping. Please, stay in touch and my cat Chupie said for your kitty to wear earmuffs :):):) Got to keep on Rockin! e :)
yourguitarsage :D :D thank you Chupie for the advice! my kitty now loves Ac/Dc and ZZ Top!! :) Please Erich, can you do a lesson on the song Chartreuse by ZZ Top?? :D so cooooool!!
Hi Erich; I have the same problem as Jerry. I cant figure out the walk-ups as your fret hand disappears at the top of the screen. can you explain those walk-ups a little more? I'm an old goat and a little help:) Other than that, I love your videos! Phil
Check out the first turnaround at about 0:30 in this video: ruclips.net/video/Kt3Y9TtR1h8/видео.html If you get a chance, see the version from the new documentary, he plays that V chord as a D9. This is the same fingering/chord shape as used in Arrested For Driving While Blind and Thunderbird. Gives it more of a blues sound. Cheers and thanks for the video.
thanks for the note about the riff change during verses- I learned this tune a couple weeks ago and never caught that before. there's several other guitar teachers on here that I enjoy, but I recently discovered your channel and you are well on your way to becoming my favorite. keep em coming!
Shoot, I forgot.... "And if you don't know your G-String... just type 'Your Guitar Sage...' oh F#@$ it, never mind...." Sorry man, couldn't resist, I took your insistence that I get it out of my system as part of the lesson, no?
Thanks for the lesson. ZZ Top fan. Love the kitty, and that he loves ZZT, and that you let him sit on your shoulder while you give a video lesson. All cool stuff. I always love the GoodNoise, and love cats in general. Any man who appreciates cats is a friend of mine, lol. It's "very manly" to appreciate 'em. They're so much like women, except for the males, cuz they're just Tomcats! heh, heh. 😎 👍 👌 BTW, that's good getting the msg out to spay & neuter all the critterzes. Ppl just don't know, they think it says something "bad" about them, but really it says they're responsible "animal husbandry" ppl. Yeah, lots of confusion about that. Thanks for everything. Wish I was in Nashville, lol. I'm not, I'm near Charleston, SC.
I think you're missing something that he frequently does right at the end of the 12th bar - a quick slide from D9 (no root) upto Eb9 and back down again, e.g. xx4555 and xx5666.
Since there's a request of the Lord in there do you think it'd be alright to play this one at church... on Mother's Day? ;) (you might think I'm bad... and I guess the proper reply would be, "I'm nation-wide"! LOL
Might not be my choice John! Don't think you are bad....just ...there might be a better one......a little more in keeping with the House of the Lord. Stay in touch my friend. e:)
Erich, I just watched your TUSH video. No pun intended :-). But at the end where your showing the walk up it's hard to view. The camera was cockeyed and no matter how large or small I made the screen I could never view it very well. Plus you said both times that you'd play it Slowly and for this old man it wasn't slow enough. :-) Anyway, I do appreciate your shares since my hearing has taken a toll on me over the years and I guess you could say my eyesight as well since I couldn't see what you were playing. Thanks a bunch you've encouraged me to pick up the guitar once again after years of being away from it. Thank you, Jerry
Thank you for the comment Jerry. Don't know how old you are but I have many students in their 60's, just starting out. Goes to show you, it is NEVER too late. Stay in touch and keep rockin! e :)
+Jerry Craig - One way to slow the video down, like we did our old LPs, is to click on the Settings icon and change the speed. The Settings icon looks like a GEAR under the Time line, between two squares. One square is solid with CC inside, the other is just an outline.
Thanks for the comment Andy. I used to use lapel mics but they are really stifling. Now I use a high-end shotgun mic. This is one of my newer vids and I have not had any complaints about volume. I'll listen back and see if it needs adjusting.
Well the thing about that is that it can be misleading. You would have to have the same amp, pedals, guitar and pick ups that I'm using to get the same sound. That would actually make for a whole series of lessons :-)
boy you really think that your are soo fucking handsome and good looking dont you?? you love to see yourself ! Its not about music but about how handsome you are! 😉greetings from Switzerland
Eric, thank you so much as I have always struggled with the pinky stretch(small hands) in the boogie part of the song so stopped playing it.You have just opened my eyes to a much simpler alternative that I can use in other songs. Thanks again
You are so welcome Phil. e:)
At 7:20 the cat comes in. He wants you now to play "Cat Scratch Fever"!
would be so cool to see someone present this in such a way to capture the MOJO of this song..I think perhaps there needs to be a slight bend on the power chord of B flat... Billy was a MOJO genius. Not knocking the lesson here but it's so rare I ever hear anyone play this where it dosent sound lame
This is THE BEST TUTORIAL oh my goodness
😊🙏
Really helpful lesson, thank you. The lick at the end

You made my day heinbldski! Thank you, Sir. I appreciate you so please, stay in touch!
e :)
Question to you what kind of amp / settings are you using to get that fat sound ? sounds sooooo colourfull !
+heinbldski thank you so much my friend! Yes, I'm very pleased with it. I'm using an OCD distortion pedal through a Fender blues Junior. The Masters is at 10 and the volume is about at two. Reverb is at two in the equalizer is set flat.
Good fun stuff thanks
Great lesson. Love this song! Is it possible to do a less on the slide solo?
Thanks my friend :) Appreciate the kind word. please, stay in touch.
e :)
I'm surprised that no one commented on you not toggling off the muted g on the 6th string during the main riff
What is the strumming pattern?
Thanks for the lesson, I was playing it wrong
👌
yes!! thanks SAGE:)
You are so welcome Shelly! Glad ya liked it! Keep rockin!

Well done! allready knew the riffs, but still fun to watch and review the parts.
Hey man! Great video. Can you talk a little bit about the tone?
Thank you so much Alfredo! I'm using an OCD distortion pedal through a Fender blues Junior. I have the master cranked to 10 and the volume on about two. The gain on the OCD pedal is about at five.

Hi Erich;
I have the same problem as Jerry. I cant figure out the walk-ups as your fret hand disappears at the top of the screen. can you explain those walk-ups a little more? I'm an old goat and a little help:) Other than that, I love your videos!
Phil
Gotcha! The first one is G, A, B, C. The next one is E, F, F #, G.
+Phil Bardoul Thanks Erich!
+Phil Bardoul 👍
So this is done in open G tuning ?
ScootersBasement no, standard. It’s in the key of G.
What amp/pedals are you using?
OCD distortion pedal through a Fender blues Junior. It's my favorite set up so far.
Mr Rodgers teaches Rock riffs.
🤘
@@yourguitarsage Thanks for the lesson!!
🙏👊🏻
There’s more to what he does. He has several tracks on the studio version. You have done only part of what he does in this video.
Of course. There are always overdubs.
Would love to see you post the other though, huh?
Check out the first turnaround at about 0:30 in this video: ruclips.net/video/Kt3Y9TtR1h8/видео.html

Where is your bottleneck slide? How can you play Tush without it??
thanks for the note about the riff change during verses- I learned this tune a couple weeks ago and never caught that before. there's several other guitar teachers on here that I enjoy, but I recently discovered your channel and you are well on your way to becoming my favorite. keep em coming!

Another Tush video, another no slide guitar lead tutorial
Shoot, I forgot.... "And if you don't know your G-String... just type 'Your Guitar Sage...' oh F#@$ it, never mind...."
Sorry man, couldn't resist, I took your insistence that I get it out of my system as part of the lesson, no?
:)
It's not the good rythm in first riff ... soory .
Not biggie wuggie licks. Shuffles
Biggie Wuggie? Sounds like an old blues player.
This video made me cringe hahaha!
balance the sound .... the guitar is wayyyy above your voice . To hear you my stack is turned to 11. But thank you for the lesson.
Hey there my ninjas!! Check out my free online course at: www.yourguitarsage.com/30

Absolutely, my friend! I said, spay neuter in several hundred of my videos.👊🏻
What kind of Gibson Les Paul you playin' ? Sounds great !
Sitting here right now in beaver dam Kentucky at the ZZ Top concert.
I think you're missing something that he frequently does right at the end of the 12th bar - a quick slide from D9 (no root) upto Eb9 and back down again, e.g. xx4555 and xx5666.
Seeing how you are keeping to the lady of the house the bar thing is a taboo for you !!! LOL !!!
