I use a heated pet dish in the winter for birds to drink from. They can't bathe in it, but can drink. I put a concrete bird bath nearby and remove the frozen ice when possible as the temperature warms up during the day for the birds to bathe in it. It works for the birds in my yard.
I have a small fountain for the tiny birds that is really shallow as well as a traditional round birdbath for the larger birds that I have and I used de-icers in each of them exactly like the Heated Rock one shown in this video and they work well. Never get frozen water and the birds are happy for a fresh drink and fresh water to bathe.
Someone online was using a heating mat for plants in a miniature greenhouse for heat. The test meter was showing the cost to be 7 cents/day. This may be an option for some folks.
@@femineity I have not found any good solar powered birdbath heaters. They would need to have a significant battery back up to get through cold nights.
I would say that if your birdbath is just a bowl with no contour to give a shallow edge where the birds can stand to drink, it's a badly designed bird bath. You probably bought it because it looks nice but didn't give much thought to how it would work for the birds.
Use common sense. When it gets below freezing and birds get wet, their wings/feathers will freeze. Most of the time they'll take baths in snow. If you choose to heat water keep obstructions in the bird bath like rocks to prevent them from getting in to take full baths. Birds have survived for alot longer than bird baths have been around...so please use common sense.

is thee a battery powered DeIcer for the bird bath? I do not have power where I want to put my feeders
I believe they do make wireless heaters. We found a few on Amazon.
@@dominasagway only ones I saw are solar, would this be good for winter?
@@yolandagomez9255 Definitely better than nothing. Can’t hurt to try!
@@dominasagway thanks, I will
@@yolandagomez9255 where did you find the solar ones all I saw was the electrical ones
How deep should the water be for sparrows?
I would say a maximum of 2” deep in the center.

Solar anyone? I don't have an acre extension cord.
They probably have solar heaters. Definitely worth a try if you can find one.
