This is a cool idea. A couple of thoughts to help make it even better. * Using a hole saw bit will get the size of the hole just right and in one go. Also it's good to let a trickle of water flow over pots while you're drilling through them to keep the bit in good shape. * Straight PVC pipe from water pump to top tier lets you get away with a smaller/cheaper pump. * Drilling a small hole in the bottom layer will let you run the electrical wire out of the bottom of the bottom bowl (but you'll need to cut the plug off and wire a new one on). Keeps things looking nice & tidy. Then put the birdbath up on a squat planter stand if you like. You'll need to silicon the pass-thru area of course. * The plastic fountain head will break down quickly in UV light. Consider finding something more resilient to use as a fountain head, not made of plastics. * Consider tossing in a layer of small lava rock on each tier. If any small birds fall in and panic, it'll give them some footing to rescue themselves. Also it provides a lot of surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow so the water stays fresh & clean, in spite of birds and squirrels pooping in it.

Beautiful, thank you! Will change to aquarium sealant so will be safer for wildlife, and will also use that where you used electrical tape, just in case, also for wildlife safety. This is a great design which even if someone had a limited income could be saved up for and thrift-shopped for many of the items needed. Thanks for sharing this beautiful, simple design.
Actually to give proper credit you should call them "Chinese bowls" not "Mexican bowls" since terracotta was invented in China more than 10,000 years ago. Then the Greeks perfected it by baking it several times, translation is "baked earth."
@DecolonizeMexico & Aztlan I was referencing the actual inventor of terracotta. Maybe you can see that with a second read of my comment. They are terracotta bowls, that were made in Mexico.
fjwilliams Williams you can get them on eBay. Type in “Solar Power Fountain Water Pump Bird Bath Panel Kit Outdoor Fountain Small Pond” I am just going to add a small ups sealed 12v battery and a solar charger regulator. No worries.
@CindyMartini and @DIYStories This is beautiful and easy BUT how do you maintain it? With algae and bacteria buildup in tube and pump, this can be fatal to wildlife, especially hummingbirds because they are so fragile.
@@sandyg3043 exactly my thought and concern. I clean my water source everytime I water the garden. I'd like to know how to hook up a steady supply of fresh water otherwise a bird bath must be cleaned out as long as it is used frequently. I am sure hummingbirds are fragile so I dare not put out unclean water for them to play in or drink.
@@jacquelynalvarado9730 Wow! Didn't even think about that! I guess I have to pry off the silicone seal or break the whole thing every time in order to get to the pump and tubing which is hidden in the middle of the fountain. Pumps and tubing need to be taken apart and cleaned very thoroughly in order to clean all of the mold and algae. THIS is why I was asking @DIYStories how is the fountain supposed to be maintained. You can not just have dirty, unhealthy, sometimes fatal water circulating without being cleaned. And if a bird should happen to get sick, you have to disinfect the fountain, pump, tubing, as to not spread to other avian.
terra cotta pots and etc are plentiful in California through Texas and unbelievably inexpensive in Mexico. A good place to look is also Mexican/ Hispanic markets or grocers, every big city should have a few good markets, even in Canada. Also any birdbath should be about 3 feet off the ground for a safe predator free environment..

This is beautiful! Really love it! I’ve been looking for a solar fountain to put in our birdbath but I’m going to try and change my husband’s mind and toss the birdbath and build this fountain instead. We have ~40 clay pots on out patio (I tend to get a bit carried away with my ‘color spots’😁) so a fountain like this would be a perfect complement to them. Thank you so much for coming up with the idea and taking the time to record then post it! I’ll follow-up with a pic if I can convince the hubs that we *have* to have this. Cheers!😀 Stay safe.
@@rosewiley5653 if you have any options try to do it yourself. This birdbath does’nt seem to be difficult. So if you have a drill you should be able to make one for yourself. It will make you happy and proud when you can admire it after finishing. Go for it 😍😍😍
This turned out beautiful. Using a brick/masonry drill bit lessens the chances of cracking. (Large ceramic pasta/salad bowls work well too but opt for darker or neutral earth tone colored ones. Too bright colors can scare some birds away.)
Hi DIY , thanks for making this fountain and sharing the process. I was able to follow and made almost similar to yours though solar instead of electric. Only thing i am missing is bell nozzle. Your link takes me to a different nozzle then what you used. Can you link to the nozzle you are using in your video.
Really pretty and attainable even for not much of a diy person. I would suggest to make sure the silicone and/or the paint used in the plates is not toxic for the birds, bcse some of them are.
Just wow I love it, thanks for sharing, I just have a Q, How do you connect it to the socket? Sorry I never done this so I’m not sure how it works? Specially if I don’t have socket in my front garden
