  • In this video we are going to talk about 3 things to prioritize with osteoporosis and how to reduce overwhelm. Safe movement for osteoporosis (spare your spine), nutrition for osteoporosis, and bone building exercise.
Whether you have just gotten a diagnosis of osteoporosis or have had it and been researching osteoporosis for a while it can be overwhelming and in some ways paralyzing. You might find yourself wondering what you should really be doing and if you aren’t doing “EVERYTHING” you think you are supposed to be doing it might be easier to just throw the towel in and stop doing anything.

It is possible to improve permanent kyphosis. It may not go away, but it can get better. I have a video which I will link to that has some exercises you can do to improve permanent kyphosis and posture. Let me know if you have any questions about it or if I can help in any way.

I don't get how your 2nd bend where you severely arch your back, is not rounding your back?!

I should make a video showing the hip hinge from different angles... In the meantime, let me see if I can explain this. The arching that you see is a back bend of sorts. Since it isn't something to do to round the spine, it would make natural sense that it also wouldn't be safe to back bend. It is actually a really great thing to come into small back bends with osteoporosis because they help to counter the constant rounding that we tend to do and it also helps to strengthen the muscles in our backs and along our spines. There are bones on the back of our spine called the spinuous process that actually continue to grow throughout our lifetime. These bones limit our mobility with backbends and make it so that we do not put too much pressure on our spines that way.
I am hoping this is helpful clarifying. Please ask further questions if I didn't make it clear...
