Thanks Richard I have a drive 60 Garmin that will not update maps it’s only 3 years old I have done everything I seen to fix the problem. Garmin expires app will not Recognize that it tried other Garmin with no problem. Thank for any help you can give . Lawrence

Thanks for the video. Yesterday I was using my cell phone's map directions and I lost internet. What to do? I grabbed my Garmin which hadn't been used in a while to get me where I was heading....... it wouldn't boot up. I was supposed to meet a friend in the country for some metal detecting. Luckily, I was able to call my friend, explained where I was, he said, "Look to your right, I'm in the field about 1000 feet away. I was ready to chuck the Garmin in the garbage till I found your video. It's working fine again, thanks.

You are beyond a 10 out of 10! Thank you for your Garmin nuvi secret, holding the bottom corner down as you press the bottom screen corner as you press the power button. It worked on an old 350 that had no use; it asked to type in the state, but nothing happened. Everything was dead! I tried the hold down, turn on method and presto I got all the questions; now my GPS works perfectly, no thanks to Garmin! I own several units but always like this one the best. Again, thank you a giga number of kudos! Now just tell me where I can but a tiny speaker for my 350!
Cancel my previous comment. I had left the unit plugged in, which I think affected its ability to work properly. After charging the battery and unplugging it from a power source it now seems to work just fine. Thank you, danke, merci, gracias!

Second method worked for me. Trying to salvage my nuvi as after the last map update, the nuvi shows me being always being a few hundred feet off the road I am on and all the new roads in my area are no longer showing up. Update...gps reset, new maps downloaded and working just fine now. Thanks
I own a Garmin Nuvicam lmthd. Will this work on it? I had issues with it not always updating latest maps. Then it seemed not to want to recharge, loading only to the logo screen. I'm hoping it's just needing a new battery. Do want to do a default reset to hopefully clear out any glitches. Liked your "How To" video. Simple and clear. You're most welcome. The reset takes the unit back to the day you took it out of the box when it was brand new. So the only map data will be the original map data. Excellent thanks I have the old diesel Cam and garmin I think intentionally makes the maps too big for it now And took away option to do selective download to decrease size I think intentionally to force you to buy a new one

Following both methods, only "recents" were removed. All saved locations were still there. I had to go into "saved" location's menu and select "all" to erase the saved locations. Otherwise, this is a good how-to video.

I have a Nuvi 2689 LMT. Only the second method worked. I had been getting an error message that I had less than 10% of the storage space available. The download time also showed more than 12 hours. First, I used the Garmin "Base Camp" software to archive my route information on my desktop computer. Then I reset my Garmin GPS unit using the second method. I moved my personal content back to my GPS unit from Garmin Base Camp. I insured that I had the newest version of Garmin Express installed on my desktop computer - this must be checked manually! Then, I used Garmin Express to update the Garmin Nuvi 2689 LMT. Initially, the download time then showed about 3 hours the time increased some during the download, but it was successful. The available storage changed from just slightly over 1 GB to 0.98 GB when the update was complete.

I would suggest contacting Garmin support for other options. If they can't help you I would go for disconnecting the battery overnight and reconnecting it. How do you find out if your memory card is full on your garmin dezl 850 and have it stop trying to link to a computer when it is on the charging cord and in use

Hey. I have Garmin 1490 of which I'm trying to get to that menu screen so that I can activate mass storage of the device because it's not reading the maps off my SD card. Troubleshooting tips are welcomed

I have two Harmon’s my older one didn’t use for long time just plugged in to car power and first screen came up then stuck I misplaced cord for pc so wonder your view since it does come up to initial screen I assume not dead but maybe power so run down does progress to maps I hace a short trip tomorrow so will let it charge for 20 more minutes do you feel I need to do reset you showed here to get maps or find cord and do updates from farming first thanks for any help you can give just glad to see opining screen I was afraid it died
I hav e an issue with a Garmin Nuvi 55. I used to go to an addressinMaine on occasion without a problem. Then one day quite a while back I selected tge saved Maine address and clicked ‘GO’. It would then acquire satellite connection and display tbe % as it went up to200%. But this time and ever since it stops at 80% and sits there. The unit works for other states. Not Maine What do I do? Reset and then do updates?

Thanks, Richard. Mine is locked in a vicious circle. I enter the PIN, then follow your instructions to hold power button while holding thumb in R. corner. It loads maps and eventually takes me back to "enter PIN". The unit never opens, so I'm unable to do the reset as you describe. Is mine 'toast'? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it loops continuously I would think the battery would eventually run out at which point it may reset on it's own. Try the screen method and if that doesn't work you may have to disassemble the unit and disconnect the battery to reset it. 2002 Comment.... I just picked this up at a garage sale for $40, it was not new as stated (2017 Model?) but for the price but I guess it was fair! reset and loaded all 2020 maps. Now trying to load Darth Vader voices but need a Garmin tool to install it. Seems challenging but I will try. Thanks again in 2020!
Richard. Since I updated my Garmin it has gone crazy! 1. It doesn't show a full text. 2. It doesn't recalculate to 100 per cent. 3. Sends me towards the wrong direction. The list is too long to note here. So, if I reset will the sat Nov go back to the factory software or just wipe off trip data? Help an old lady please.

Dear Richard, Hi! Model: Garmin Drive Assist 50. What I did: I had connected the Garmin devise to my mac and wanted to delete all the data on the sd cards. But in error, I also formatted the devise. Issue: Now, I cannot detect the devise on Mac using an USB, it is not detected on GarminExpress either. What happens: The devise turns on and is stuck on "warning" page, on clicking "agree" button, it does not go to the next menu, just stuck there. What should I do to fix this? Did you find a successful resolution? I received an email message from Garmin saying: they do not repair this model anymore and that they will offer a 20% discount to buy a new one. I am so sure that there is a solution available, it’s just time and it’ll be found. Please help me too. Thanks! Maz
Have you tried it on a regular PC instead of the Mac? Have you tried both reset processes? Also just as a "Hail Marry", maybe your touch screen is out of calibration (had it happen to me because the unit over heated in the Texas sun) and it would not respond to the area on the screen I was pressing. Try powering it down and press on the upper left corner of the screen, keep pressure on the corner and power it up while doing so. This should bring you to a touch screen calibration and hopefully (if this is what's wrong) after you calibrate the screen, resolve your issue. Tell me how it goes. Thank you so much for commenting. Did you try both ways to reset it? You may also disassemble the unit and unplug the battery this will remove all power and "hopefully" reset it. Last ditch, but what do you lose at this point? Thanks.

Thanx Richard. Tried it and it works. I have had my 3597LMT here in Europe for about 3 years. I have had a couple of map updates and also deleted unneccessary language files as well as car icon files to free up space. After the 4 map udates during the time that I have actually done, I now have to buy an SD card as I am unable to do the latest update due to lack of space internally. Any clues as to how to reset from scratch and download the latest maps without eat more space as I am sure that the old backups are stored in the unit, or am I wrong........i.e. delete history and just have latest.
I have never had this memory issue but I generally just update the maps every once in a while. I would call Garmin support and see if they have a suggestion. I have reset my Garmin 2555 everything works except the the voice. there is no vice and the volume is up. Under voice language there is no option to choose. Can you give me any ideas?
If you have it plugged into an appropriate power source it should never shut off. Mine is plugged into the 12V power outlet on my car with the Garmin power adapter TA20 (with traffic antenna) mine has a blue led. Hi Richard, thank you for this great video. I have another problem though. My Asus Laptop with Windows10 on doesn't recognize Nuvi2497LMT. Don't know what to do, I have tried all the USB ports I have, I have killed all "supporting" processes like Asus USB charger, etc. Nothing helps. I have activated Garmin USB mass storage mode. Device seems to recognize that is it connected. This small connection picture can be seen on display. Windows however doesn't. Have you heard about this issue?
Hello Mr. Lloyd, my problem is I have a Garmin nuvi 2495 LMT and it will not show the speed limit sign of any particular area when I'm driving.Some people on line says this particular model does not come with that function. Nowhere on Garmin site that says it doesn't.I also downloaded the Garmin 30 day trial of red light and camera district also and nowhere does it indicate by sound or by voice that there is a red light or speed light ahead.Other than that seems to work perfectly fine.Any suggestions whatsoever will be appreciated.Thank you.

I did what you say.Madter resend both before and after updating my Garmin does not acknowledge any addresses for Maine. Am I in need of help for my Garmin express exec program? Need a new download? It used Togo to Maine but for along time now it won’t.

You're most welcome. The reset takes the unit back to the day you took it out of the box when it was brand new. So the only map data will be the original map data. Will this reset also clear waypoint data that was loaded onto the gps using BaseCamp?
It will bring the device to the state you found it when you took it out of the box for the first time.

Excellent thanks I have the old diesel Cam and garmin I think intentionally makes the maps too big for it now And took away option to do selective download to decrease size I think intentionally to force you to buy a new one

Following both methods, only "recents" were removed. All saved locations were still there. I had to go into "saved" location's menu and select "all" to erase the saved locations.

I have a Nuvi 2689 LMT. Only the second method worked. I had been getting an error message that I had less than 10% of the storage space available. The download time also showed more than 12 hours. First, I used the Garmin "Base Camp" software to archive my route information on my desktop computer. Then I reset my Garmin GPS unit using the second method. I moved my personal content back to my GPS unit from Garmin Base Camp. I insured that I had the newest version of Garmin Express installed on my desktop computer - this must be checked manually! Then, I used Garmin Express to update the Garmin Nuvi 2689 LMT. Initially, the download time then showed about 3 hours the time increased some during the download, but it was successful. The available storage changed from just slightly over 1 GB to 0.98 GB when the update was complete.

I would suggest contacting Garmin support for other options. If they can't help you I would go for disconnecting the battery overnight and reconnecting it. How do you find out if your memory card is full on your garmin dezl 850 and have it stop trying to link to a computer when it is on the charging cord and in use

I have two Harmon’s my older one didn’t use for long time just plugged in to car power and first screen came up then stuck I misplaced cord for pc so wonder your view since it does come up to initial screen I assume not dead but maybe power so run down does progress to maps I hace a short trip tomorrow so will let it charge for 20 more minutes do you feel I need to do reset you showed here to get maps or find cord and do updates from farming first thanks for any help you can give just glad to see opining screen I was afraid it died
I hav e an issue with a Garmin Nuvi 55. I used to go to an addressinMaine on occasion without a problem. Then one day quite a while back I selected tge saved Maine address and clicked ‘GO’. It would then acquire satellite connection and display tbe % as it went up to200%. But this time and ever since it stops at 80% and sits there. The unit works for other states. Not Maine What do I do? Reset and then do updates?

Thanks, Richard. Mine is locked in a vicious circle. I enter the PIN, then follow your instructions to hold power button while holding thumb in R. corner. It loads maps and eventually takes me back to "enter PIN". The unit never opens, so I'm unable to do the reset as you describe. Is mine 'toast'? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it loops continuously I would think the battery would eventually run out at which point it may reset on it's own. Try the screen method and if that doesn't work you may have to disassemble the unit and disconnect the battery to reset it. I would see if the unit will run out power on it's own while looping to reset.

2002 Comment.... I just picked this up at a garage sale for $40, it was not new as stated (2017 Model?) but for the price but I guess it was fair! reset and loaded all 2020 maps. Now trying to load Darth Vader voices but need a Garmin tool to install it. Seems challenging but I will try. Thanks again in 2020!
Richard. Since I updated my Garmin it has gone crazy!
1. It doesn't show a full text.
2. It doesn't recalculate to 100 per cent.
3. Sends me towards the wrong direction.

Model: Garmin Drive Assist 50.
What I did: I had connected the Garmin devise to my mac and wanted to delete all the data on the sd cards.
But in error, I also formatted the devise.
Issue: Now, I cannot detect the devise on Mac using an USB, it is not detected on GarminExpress either.
What happens: The devise turns on and is stuck on "warning" page, on clicking "agree" button, it does not go to the next menu, just stuck there. What should I do to fix this?
Did you find a successful resolution?
I received an email message from Garmin saying: they do not repair this model anymore and that they will offer a 20% discount to buy a new one.
I am so sure that there is a solution available, it’s just time and it’ll be found.

Have you tried it on a regular PC instead of the Mac? Have you tried both reset processes? Also just as a "Hail Marry", maybe your touch screen is out of calibration (had it happen to me because the unit over heated in the Texas sun) and it would not respond to the area on the screen I was pressing. Try powering it down and press on the upper left corner of the screen, keep pressure on the corner and power it up while doing so. This should bring you to a touch screen calibration and hopefully (if this is what's wrong) after you calibrate the screen, resolve your issue. Tell me how it goes. Thank you so much for commenting. Did you try both ways to reset it? You may also disassemble the unit and unplug the battery this will remove all power and "hopefully" reset it. Last ditch, but what do you lose at this point? Thanks.
when you restore to factory settings do you have to restore your maps to the latest version or does it keep them?

Thanx Richard. Tried it and it works. I have had my 3597LMT here in Europe for about 3 years. I have had a couple of map updates and also deleted unneccessary language files as well as car icon files to free up space. After the 4 map udates during the time that I have actually done, I now have to buy an SD card as I am unable to do the latest update due to lack of space internally. Any clues as to how to reset from scratch and download the latest maps without eat more space as I am sure that the old backups are stored in the unit, or am I wrong........i.e. delete history and just have latest.
I have never had this memory issue but I generally just update the maps every once in a while. I would call Garmin support and see if they have a suggestion. you may have it set to shut off after certain minutes - check out the settings
If you have it plugged into an appropriate power source it should never shut off. Mine is plugged into the 12V power outlet on my car with the Garmin power adapter TA20 (with traffic antenna) mine has a blue led. Hi Richard, thank you for this great video. I have another problem though. My Asus Laptop with Windows10 on doesn't recognize Nuvi2497LMT. Don't know what to do, I have tried all the USB ports I have, I have killed all "supporting" processes like Asus USB charger, etc. Nothing helps. I have activated Garmin USB mass storage mode. Device seems to recognize that is it connected. This small connection picture can be seen on display. Windows however doesn't. Have you heard about this issue?

Hello Mr. Lloyd, my problem is I have a Garmin nuvi 2495 LMT and it will not show the speed limit sign of any particular area when I'm driving.Some people on line says this particular model does not come with that function. Nowhere on Garmin site that says it doesn't.I also downloaded the Garmin 30 day trial of red light and camera district also and nowhere does it indicate by sound or by voice that there is a red light or speed light ahead.Other than that seems to work perfectly fine.Any suggestions whatsoever will be appreciated.Thank you.
