I've used a Garmin for years and never bothered to learn all its features. Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. It will be extremely helpful for an upcoming cross-country trip into unfamiliar territory.
I wanted to learn how to read a gps while I drove and was scared to come out of my comfort zone because I couldn’t understand how to read it . Thank you so much for explaining this so well I will be off to my new adventure!!! You’re the best !
Wow! That was the best tutorial on this subject that I have seen. I loved the slow methodical way you talked and pointed out the features. Well done! I learned alot.
An excellent presentation, Richard - thank you so much for posting! I just bought a Garmin Drive 50 (UK title) this afternoon, and was struggling to find a way to get into it - this was perfect!
I sure hope Garmin is giving you something for your excellent videos. I can't imagine how much time and effort you have put into making them. Very much appreciated. Subscribed!
I was traveling to a bike race in Texas, I was lucky to have my Garmin. I hit a rain patch that was so bad my phone was blasting weather warnings, I had no place to turn off or I would have. I could hardly see the road, I tried following trucks but they were to fast. I had to watch the purple line on my Garmin to tell me what was coming up on the road. I always use my garmin when traveling. Just feel better with it. Phone navigation are great as well until they stop working. Crossing from Illinois to St. Louis is kind of tricky, You don't want to end up in the wrong hood in St. Louis.
Thanks for posting this excellent instructional video. I just purchased the Drivesmart 61 and it couldn't have been more timely for education. Wonder if you would consider posting a similar one on using the Garmin Android Smartlink app.
Any tips on using the touchscreen map? I find trying to move the map up and down, east and west, always starts it enlarging and behaving erratically with a mind of its own. I need to centre the location or destination on the map but I can never get this centred on the map to then zoom in to see it properly. It is a small screen and my fingers are clumsy, but the instructions just say 'drag the map to one side or the other'. I am new to sat navs so rather lost on this.
This may be very silly question but how do you get that view as 04:46 on the right?? Can you somehow set it up to get your screen divided like that? My nav shows me only the view as in left 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
You can not manually set it up from the sat nav menu. Garmin have hundreds if not thousands of these photo real images displaying the exact worded Road Signage and junction layout for what they class as major, complex or tricky junctions especially where there is multiple lane choices available. These images will only appear when both of the following criteria are met. 1/ You must be following an active route (ie sat nav must be set to a final destination and displaying the purple route line) 2/ when you approach a junction on your active route that is on Garmin’s database it will automatically be shown to you as a split screen view on the right portion of the screen when available. As mention in the video clip, you can check you upcoming turns by tapping on the upper left corner of the screen during any active route and any junction views will be available to view their also Hope this helps 😃
Thanks for the video, very informative. I hadn’t really taken the time to acquaint myself with all the features. I like the idea of seeing the next few turns on the side of the map
Is there any way to reverse your drive so you can go back the way you came? If I put in my return address it takes me completely out of the way; much longer going back than it was getting there.
What is the green line (route) showing? I know the purple line is depicting the route you are taking but I have searched to see what the green line is supposed to be directing to.
Can you use that real time photo on the map to be on through the entire travel period? So like the colored map lines on the left and then the real time road view on the right I’ve been seeing pictures of it and it just showed a little bit in there so nobody ever says how to do it though.
my garmin 0 seems broken. it keeps thinking its in toronto not winnepeg. its my first night and it might not be charged properly but otherwise its updated and should work?
The best way of creating routes and waypoints is to do it in Base Camp on a PC and then transfer them over to the GPS. There you have a much bigger screen and it is easier in any way.
Thanks for this video. I have a Drivesmart 61. I am surprised to discover that the accuracy of the arrival time is much less precise that it was with my former GPS Garmin. It seemed that, with the older one, we had an "auto-calibration" according to the personal way of speed you was driving. Any advice to fix this lack of accuracy will be welcome.
Garmin is the best. Just bought a Garmin Drive Smart 65 & Traffic and I’m very happy, it’s superior to my old Garmin 2595 and it is better than using iPhone.
AWESOME!!!! I didn’t understand what some of those icons meant thanks for explaining!!! How in the Plum Hill do you charge it are you only to be able to charge it in ones vehicle? It did not come with a home charger? And why not??🤔🧐🤨
You should have a Data/Charging cable in the box. Charge with USB mains adapter or (slower) through the PC . Once its plugged into car it is charging anyway !
Brittany McIntosh No but the battery life SUCKKKSSSSS the worst battery life EVVERRRR!!!!! Less than half an hour the battery is red = low 😡💀 So always have it charged in your car. The screen sucks without screen brightness 😤😡 & that right there is WHAT causes the battery to drain out. Fucking ridiculous!
@@shesomadeline It is NOT a battery powered hand held GPS. It IS a SatNav for use in a vehicle ! You can also run it via the USB Data/charge cable from the mains.Duh !
Good video. Thanks for making it. Just one question, what happens if the driver passes their destination? Do you know if this GPS can re-calculate the route? My old TomTom One could, but my current Navman doesn't re-calculate. It just shows a green dotted line of where I've been. If I pass the address, I have to park the vehicle and re-program the GPS, with the address, again. It wastes time and I can't do that, if I'm driving through busy roads.
Okay video. But why it want to take you to back rd instead straight like interstate rd to your destination? That's what I'm confused. For now,my phone is even better.
I have Nuvi56 for one years. Traffic is not working on my Garmin after one year. When I contact Garmin they are asking 129$ because warranty is finished. I asked, is this the new way to earn money? he said for traffic normally I don't receive any complain. I said If I am the rare then why don't you help me to replace the unit, he was just repeating oh warranty is finished so I cant help you. If this is the common issue everybody should complain and ask for replacement when they are advertising lifetime traffic and map why they are asking money when equipment is working and only traffic is not working.
The red light camera only 30 days free after u have to pay for a one-year membership. on the GPS box and Garmin website showing u have this function the spec also says u have this function but nowhere anything about after 30 days u have to pay for it so they do misleading information
GPS relies on satellites, cell phones rely on cell towers and can often lose coverage for your navigation unlike GPS devices. But, I would always have the cell phone or smartphone with me for making calls.
You mention that the GPS indicates the direction you are going but the one in your video doesn't. If you mention features like this then have the good manners to show them.
If you plan on updating your Garmin on Windows 10 or 8.1, better find another navigator. Garmin Nuvi NOT update on windows 10 or 8.1. I liked it because it is very clear and the colour combination is clear to monitor.

Very nice video. Very clear and precise. Wish all tutorial videos were like this. Thanks
I learnt quite a bit from the video despite the fact I have been using this for a couple of years. Thank you for the video.

Indeed. Nothing beats that - especially in accuracy and customization of the info of a Way-point.

Very Good Video, Bring's awareness to; Menu Driven... Tap and Go will explore all features. Excellent, Worth Watching ! Thank's !!!
Thank you for this very helpful informative video!! You made it so simple to understand the additional features and how to access them!
Is there any way of choosing from different routes like you have the option to do on google maps?
I'm not familiar with how Google maps works, but Garmin has a reroute function.
HI
Does this GPS show the cameras in way?
I live in Sweden and we have cameras in everywhere.
Mine does not.
Is it working with truck.?
Thanks man😁. Great vid, I subscribe
interesting

How do i get 1st person viewing with 65 & live traffic
Australian gps
Not seeing it in gps menu
Thanks. Good info.
Great video. Thanks.
how can I change my current location? It is preset to Florida and I am unable to change it.
It really helps after the update provided by Garmin.
Love the vids very helpful for the laymen such as myself ! Thank you for making them . SUBBED
Can you talk to the Garmin to ask for a destination, or just you type it in?
Both.
Great video !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
can you communicate with this GPS by voice commands ?
Appreciate these details!
Thank you
Very helpful. Thanks
I didn’t understand what some of those icons meant thanks for explaining!!!
Does this give verbal voice prompts like Google maps?
Yes. You can even select from an assortment of Mal and female voices.
Does it have to be plugged in to work?

It depends on how close you are to your destination. If it announces that you've arrived but you keep driving, it will not reroute you.
thank you!
Excellent video.
what garmin is this?
How do I change destination say I don't want to use major highways want to take slower or scenic route
The adjustment for this is listed in your Settings for your GPS or should ask you this when planning a destination. Hope this helps.
is this information also valid for the Garmin Drive LMT 60?
Okay video. But why it want to take you to back rd instead straight like interstate rd to your destination? That's what I'm confused. For now,my phone is even better.
Most likely he had checked the box saying avoid highways so that’s probably why.
How in the heck do you search for a city center. I do not know the street address?
Manager flaw with these GPS. They don’t use a standard 6 figure co-ord. makes them pretty useless
Mine arrived defective, free replacement but a pain for me.
How can you adjust font size? Font is so small we cannot read it. Thanks
"Route" is pronounced "root" in the UK
