    Good grief, could Garmin possibly make it more complicated? I have _no idea_ how you figured that out, but thank you so much for sharing. (I was hoping that "simulated" meant it would show the car icon zipping along the route, but I guess not.)

    Wow - Very clever - Thank you very much! Having to go thru this convoluted process just to edit a route is egregious. Route editing should be a core function in all Garmin's (anyone's) road satnavs. Without it, the device is of very little use to me. Can do better with Google Maps (a low bar). Thank you again. 👍

    Wow, they sure made that convoluted to use. Thanks for the explaination.

    • @sat103
      @sat103  3 года назад

      Yes, very convoluted. Trip Planner is a 2010's thing by Garmin that has not aged well, but the upside is that it does reliably obey route instructions you save.

    Good info for sure. Is there a mpg calculator/tracker/?

    • @sat103
      @sat103  Год назад

      No, but there are other ways.
      Free way: On next fill-up, set trip odometer to 0. On the next fill-up after that, use a calculator to divide miles driven by gallons. Example: If you drove 350 miles and put in 12 gallons at the pump, 350 / 12 is a 29.2 average MPG.
      Paid way: If your car is 1996 or newer, you can plug in a wireless Bluetooth module to your OBD-II like this one amzn.to/3nECUDZ (Amazon affiliated link) and then use the Torque app for the phone to communicate with your engine directly. It has several ways you can calculate fuel efficiency wiki.torque-bhp.com/view/MPG The Torque app is $5 but it's a one-time cost and not a subscription.

    Does anyone know if you can use a trip you used for return journey. Say you were at point B , and you told Garmin to take you home, = point A, already stored =home, can I use this to following day to take, back to B, so now going from point A back to point B ? if that makes sense! Tracking back the route home in reverse!

    • @cliveharris1433

      Yes. Choose the trip out in trip planner. Press go, then for the trip back select next destination as your point A

    Perhaps Garmin needs more competition to encourage alternating a route (more intuitively) or creating a completely different route to the same destination.

    • @sat103
      @sat103  2 года назад +1

      Trip Planner has the ability to add Cities and you can add as many as you wish

    • @sshumkaer
      @sshumkaer 2 года назад

      @@sat103 ok thanks. Question how do you keep the Garmin from driving you into the center of the city all the time?
      For example I live in North Dakota and Travel to Indiana often. If you just go from point A to B no issue. For me this would be Ellendale to Ellettsville.
      However when you customize your route on the DriveLuxe 50 the moment you start adding point A,B,C,D,E the Garmin wants to always drive you to the center of the city like if it's a check point than it will route you to C, and repeat this over and over the entire trips.
      Non of these places your visiting your just driving through avoiding a city or something but it ends up equally frustrating.
      So is there away to keep this from happening.?

    • @sat103
      @sat103  2 года назад +2

      The only way around the center-of-town thing is to use "nearest POIs", intersections or coordinates as points of a trip instead of city names directly.
      Nearest POI (Point of Interest):
      Set a point in the trip as an address or business within the town instead of the town itself. The northwestern entry into Ellettsville is 8398 State Road 346 Ellettsville IN 47429, which I found clicking on the map at www.gps-coordinates.net and is listed in the latest Garmin maps for the United States.
      Intersection:
      Apps > Trip Planner > wrench icon > Create Trip > Select Start Location > Intersection > State or County > Indiana > Beechwood (typed) > Done > Ridge Springs (typed) > Done > select "Beechwood Dr & Ridge Springs Ln" > Select (green button)...
      ...the point selected is the intersection of Beechwood Dr & Ridge Springs Ln in Ellettsville IN instead of the center of town.
      Coordinates:
      Used for when you need absolutely precise points along a trip. Set coordinates to decimal degrees from Settings > Units & Time > Position Format > Coordinate Format > h ddd.dddddd°. Use www.gps-coordinates.net to get coordinate info just by clicking on the map that can be input directly to the Garmin. The northwestern entry into Ellettsville along IN-46 is 39.252396859002644 -86.65396508097352, which on the Garmin would be entered as N 39.252396 W 86.653965
      This is unfortunately as good as it gets for precise trip planning. To the best of my knowledge, nobody (Garmin or otherwise) has ever developed anything better.
      Edit: Small correction. Magic Earth (smartphone app) does have the tap-and-hold which is much easier to create a customized route, but it uses OpenStreetMap data which is not as good as Garmin data. That's the alternative. I have a video on it here on this channel that shows how that works.

    • @sshumkaer
      @sshumkaer 2 года назад

      @@sat103 man that's complex.
      I just assumed there was away for it to work like Google Maps. Customization of highway, interstate without driving you to the center of the city.
      I guess this means Google Maps is still king unless Rend McNally is awesome.

    • @sat103
      @sat103  2 года назад

      Google Maps does the same center-of-town thing all the other navigation apps do when using towns/cities as trip points. Offline maps can be temporarily downloaded but then the POI/address search and toll road avoidance breaks when you do that. Magic Earth is far superior if you need highly specific routes with 100% offline support and features that don't break. That's as good as it gets.
