It has one big downfall. If you set it for faster time once the GPS chooses the route if you miss the turn and the other way would be faster now it still constantly tries to get you back to the original route. I tested that on a trip where I knew both ways, the one GPS was sending me and one I took. My old Garmin GPS did not do that.

Is there any way to unlock my smart drive 65 that does not accept the original South America map? According to information, it is blocked because it is a device for North America, they said that it does not include the original map of South America. I wanted to know if there is a way to change it that accepts the original Garmin South America map
Awesome review! I am still planning to hold onto my Garmin 61 NA-LMT-S for a while. There isn't any significant difference between that model and the 65 Drivesmart version. Plus I have an SD Card & I have the GTM 60 Traffic Receiver. How long do you think will the 61 version last me? Please let me know.

((But EITHER of my Garmin devices beat the daylights outta the stinking gizmo in my ‘13 Lexus!!! I’d NEVER would have bought it had I known that you canNOT request navigation IN MOTION!! I have to pull to a stop, put it in PARK, and THEN request directions!!! SO MUCH FOR “HANDS FREE”!!!))
Can we use BC 30 with this ? in that case do we need to use the new power cable which comes along with BC 30 or the one provided in the Garmin drive smart. Will I lose on the aux output functionality of the drive smart 65

@@explorewithus7939 The “Higher Ups” sent me a SmartDrive 65 and I am truly enjoying it! Still haven’t seen any 3D Buildings yet but maybe because I haven’t traveled to a city area yet. I am scheduled to drop off a client in Alexandria, Virginia January 13th at hospital, so maybe I’ll see a 3D Building in that area because it’s close to D.C.

I think it can't be standing freely. There's a suction mount you will get in the box. Fix it on your windscreen and then you can mount the device in it.
Not many people have had much success over the the long term with the suction device from what I gather on y.t. I have 2 older devices, both of which I managed a very stable “mount” by using a black tube sock rolled up and finagled over the end of the suction devices. I then stuff the thing in a cup holder, or into a circular mount lodged in the dash vents. (Different placement depending on which vehicle.)
Wifi sucks. You need to plug in power either car or computer. You can update small update whitout power but bigger updates you need power. So you might as well use garmin direct on youre pc
Check out the video “Garmin Drivesmart 65 and GPS Speedometer” by Tony The Technician. He’s using this gizmo as his speedometer, and at 6:19 in his video, he talks briefly about the speedometer function and says that the AUDIBLE speeding NOTIFICATION can be turned OFF.
It doesn't come with Philippine maps and Garmin stopped selling models that come with it years ago. However, you can still technically use it in the Philippines if you download OpenStreetMaps maps and put it in an SD card. I don't recommend it though since it introduces a lot of issues. You will not have traffic information and routing can be a odd since road infrastracture is different between USA and the Philippines. An example is when I tried loading a Philippine map and started routing, it wanted me to make a left turn off a major thoroughfare but in real life the turn is difficult since you will be turning against oncoming traffic.

Yes. You need to pair the device with the app (Drive Smart) in your phone.
Is the drivesmart 71 the same? just a newer Version?

when I open the new box with Garmin, why does it show Florida location (I am in CA) and it seems having a trouble connecting satellite?
Just wished they hadn't dropped the altimeter feature. I realize it's not super accurate but it still gave you a point of reference.

Maps are free but only updated about twice a year. POIs are subscription.

I haven't seen the 3D buildings yet. But overall, this is a very good device. Specially the screen size.

Speedo out by 5 kph and it won't take the most logical route. Pisses me off. Plus you can't turn that stupid speed off.
have you checked your tire ratio and size? that could throw off your speedometer

We have bought the drive smart twice . Screen broke from us dropping it , our fault ! Garmins voice to talk is utterly junk , GARMINS FAULT !
