Stop the flare! Every 3rd or 4th stitch, bind off the traditional way? I still have the stretch needed for my socks and when the sock is off there is little to no flare. Easy to adjust based on needle and yarn choices.

I just tried this on a mock turtleneck I'm working on. I had just finished the neck ribbing bind off, and could hardly get my head through the neck opening. I un-did the bind off and reworked it using this stretchy technique, and voila! Worked great. No problem getting my head through the neck opening now, and the flaring is minimal. I do see that I'll have to work on my tensioning when using this technique. Thanks for the oh so timely tutorial.

Great video, I’ve always wanted a neat stretchy bind off without being complicated and time consuming. This is it!! I did find that if I’m binding off a purl stitch, I purl it as you did, but then I moved the yarn to the back, put my left needle through the back of the two stitches on my right needle and wrapped the yarn round to complete the stitch. I found this much easier and it’s still stretchy 🩷

I tried this as you described on a neck 1x1 rib bind off, but it was too stretchy and looked out of shape. So, I improvised and when knitting the knit stitch, I did it your way and when purling the P st. I passed the previous stitch over. I have a great deal of stretchiness, but a better neck shaping.

I use Jeny's S. BO on all my female dog sweaters I knit for my Etsy shop almost every day. From what I can tell, Jeny's bo method is a lot of yarn overs (the yo adds an extra stitch for that extra stretchiness) & then, passing previous stitches over. This video bind off technique consists of purling & knitting. I'm not sure which is stretchier, but I'm going to try it. It's great learning new techniques! Thank you VeryPink Knits !!

Cora K. So which method do you find stretchier? It looks like this one would be. (I have used Jeny's ssbo also.)

playhooky I've used both methods, and I feel like this one is WAY more stretchy even than the jennys version. It's also less complicated.

Thank you so much for this very easy stretchy bind off, I've always used a size up in needle and tried to do it loosely but it doesn't look so neat Thanks to you I now have the perfect way to finish off One very happy knitter here now :)

Funny to say, that I started watching this video while I'm already stretchy casting off my finished circle jacket.
Thanks for your tutorials and your videos.
I really love your channel and enjoy watching the videos.

I absolutely love the scarf you're wearing in this video. I know you've probably answered this a million times, but for a newbie could you please tell me what the pattern is? Thank you!

I love this method but found it a little too wavy/loose so I adapted this method with the other...and to me it was just right...knit 2 cast off the first knit st, put yarn in front purl one THEN purl the 2 together, purl 1, purl 2 together but when knitting the next stitch I do a normal cast off. So with knit stitches I do a normal cast off and with the purl stitches I use your purl 2 together. Turned out great for me.

      Woah thank you so much
I did this using my crochet hook
And the knits are slip stitches
And the purls with the yarn in front single crochet stitches
      Helped so much

I just had to undo a couple of rows on a pretty top down cardigan for a baby, as the cast off armholes were much too tight - used this bind off and voila! Perfectly big enough for baby! Thank you so much for this simple method, which will be much used...

Thank you for such a clear discussion of when this bind off may be appropriate. I always appreciate your thorough format. Yours are the first videos I view on knitting techniques. PS, I just used this on my first crescent shawl, and it looks great and blocked out exactly as I planned.
