Ray's new look was a surprised. I really thought you had a new guy until I heard him speak. 😊 BTW wonderful new deck, looking forward to the continuation of the duplex.
Pro tip, RE: PVC drain, since you don't need a direct straight line, nor a constant angle, if you use two 45deg angles you can make any angle from 0 deg to 90 deg.
A good paint roller is the way to go on basically any painting project, but brushing gets you more time on that job clock. You end up refining your brush technique because of all the time you spend doing it, but it's definitely not an efficient use of man hours.
I'm not a builder but l love watching y'all build. You guys have great chemistry, great attitudes, awesome sense of humor. It's like watching my favorite sitcom and learning something! I just love it!❤ Ray! That beard action is on fleek! Looks great.... Jason, l love your sense of humor, especially about not looking to painting 😂😂😂
My son who's in kindergarten, really enjoys watching your videos! He ventures on to my RUclips once in a while and he stumbled on my subscriptions and found you guys building this deck and some of your newer homes! Thanks for making great and family friendly videos for him to continue watching. As a builder/remodeler myself, I appreciate all you guys do to hopefully spark some interest for the younger generations to get into the trades/construction business!
Love RAY’s new look! You guy’s do such detailed work in all building projects..one question, why no retaining wall below the outer edge of the new deck?
True Pro Tip from my OCD building experience… assemble all the railings into the post before you lag the posts into the framing. That way they all have the same length at the top rail and bottom rail. This makes them all perfectly plumb without having to put a level on the posts as you bolt them on.
You guys are what makes me realize how precious life is and you show the love and fun that keeps me coming back. I’m grateful for your channel and the most awesome crew that I have no words for, but respect.
I used to use those pickets for railings but gave up after too many failures over time. What I do now is make hog wire panels. Just cut a 2x4 in half lengthwise, sand, and paint or stain. Cut the panels (get them cheap at Tractor Supply Company) to fit in the dimensions of the panel for the rail section. Set one half of the 2x4 part then the section of the hog panel then the other half to create a railing sandwich. Drill a hole in the bottom channel of the rail panel for drainage then repeat till the panels are all built. Install. This will allow a more physical view and be a lot stronger. Those pickets tend to cup over time. I agree that an angling platform would be a nice upgrade!!
Definitely recommend using a roller for the stain and a power roller or even a tube roller. Especially if you have a two man crew with the second person back brushing. 3-4 times faster.
Major kudos to the video editor… when you refer to something and a clip instantly depicts it. That’s one more reason why y’all are so fun to watch. Also the chummy repartee makes the whole package. A likable gang. 🎉
I am watching several craftsman / builders etc. on youtube. But only you guys have the talent to deliver in every video. For years now. Great work men.
The screws in the top cap should always come up from the bottom, thereby eliminating any holes in the top of the top cap. Any holes in the top allow rainwater to enter the wood.
What a superb build on what has to be one of the most envied house sites ever. What and unbelievable house to live in. Fsncy having that gorgeous back deck to live on beside such a perfectly clear water creek . A Perkins Bros build deck makes that thee most perfect place to live. Great work Perkins Team !!!!!!! 🇦🇺🤗🙏💞👍✌️👏👏🇺🇲
Project came out really great. The only thing i would change is the pickets for cable. My wife and had pickets on our deck it was a joke couldn't see out in the yard so we had cables put in this time.
Ray, your beard & hair look great!! Good job!! Y'all are really amazing. You're incredible builders, & then you clean up the site like you do! My hubby & I did that on our jobs, & our clients always appreciated it! Great job, Perkins!! 👍
Wow!! Ray Jnr. looks so much like Ray Snr. only much younger. So I thought who will be sent to the naughty boy step under the deck to paint the hard to reach areas, I hit the nail on the head, Jay. The deck looks great and really suits the house and environment. Good job guys, be safe, be well 🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
I really enjoy watching your videos. I appreciate the well thought out approach you use for each project and find it very informative. I absolutely love the camaraderie amongst the crew. You guys have a special relationship at work. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Nice work guys. One thing I noticed is that you are notching the 4x4 posts and building code no longer allows this. A post must be able to withstand a 200 pound pressure in an outward force. A notched post won't withstand this. Just an FYI.
Yeah, I found this out the hard way a few years ago when my deck failed the final inspection and I had to rework all of the posts. They also require hurricane ties at the joist to beam connections.
To remove the center rib of the decking for the top cap, I would hav tried running the decking, rib down, over a dado stack in the table saw. Might have taken two passes but would be real quick.
Our inspt makes us notch 4x4 and thru bolt with washer an nut w.a. And fish wouldn't be safe for a mile an a half if my son was around there he'd have crawl dad traps an fish pen's an all kinda different stuff very sweet spot
I reckon it would´ve been easier to use the router to cut a groove into the timber to accomodate that middle part of the the decking material, plus you wouldn´t have to worry about getting rid of non-compastabile material!
I've used some flexible PVC fixing a hot tub in the past. So it is available, still pretty rigid but it is flexible. Especially if you heat it up a little bit.
They are common here in the USA also. I looked it up and there are many variations of the flexible downspout adapters. Specifically, I saw one that adapts the downspout to 4 inch diameter PVC pipe that they are using. Maybe they weren't on the store aisle that they expected. Are "big box" home improvement stores common in Norway? Here, they are about the size of IKEA stores.
@@markstipulkoski1389 It's like I told my (exchange student) host mother in Kansas 40 years ago: "If we got it in Norway you got it here in the US" 🙂 I am not sure how big a store need to be to fit the label "big box" I live in a small town on the coast. We have three home improvement stores that I consider big though not like Ikea. I usually find what I need.
Bravo! I want a deck just like that one! There's only one thing more impressive and enjoyable than watching the skillful work that you guys do and that's the fun that you all seem to be having doing it.
Great looking deck! When ever I'm driving screws without safety glasses in close quarters like Jono I atleast squint my eyes. I call it the "safety squint" 😂
Pro tip: if you know you need to router put that center rib do it on your mill instead you can even make a sleeve to guide the boards through the cutter a lot cleaner and faster than doing it with the router.
this is a big big vid .... this shows what we all subbed to the channel for ... thank Jaime for bringing the steak to the projects and not just the coleslaw

Rays YOUNGER twin at that! 😂😂😂

New guy in red shirt
RAY RETURN
Jason is a genius. Using the wet hay to water the grass seed is the real pro tip of this deck build series.
Ray's new look was a surprised. I really thought you had a new guy until I heard him speak. 😊 BTW wonderful new deck, looking forward to the continuation of the duplex.
Like his tee shirt too :)
You are truly my favourite construction crew in the world. You make construction look cool.
Construction is cool. Squirted blood out of my thumb today when I hit it with my hammer and I said to myself, I love my job haha
Pro tip, RE: PVC drain, since you don't need a direct straight line, nor a constant angle, if you use two 45deg angles you can make any angle from 0 deg to 90 deg.
The deck turned out amazing guys. The top railing design was top notch! Ray, you aced with your new look !
Top Notch= top pun
OMG, Ray looks so good, with his face cleaned up !! Like a real man !!!!!

add a flat stone or concrete pass at end of drain pipes to print erosion of the bank
Beautiful work guys on the deck, and the clean up especially you Ray on your chin.
If the roof is composite, a wet-water planting at the end of the run-off outlets might help keep the asphalt snibblings out of the creek.
Great attention to details. Wish we had more contractors like you in our area.

The A team! You guys have skills and work together so well. Beautiful deck. That thing will last 40+ yrs
Thank you!
That turned out amazing and matches up with the house. Great job!!! Enjoyed and thanks.
Thought you would have used a cable system, instead of the pickets, to enhance the view of the river.
Level,square and plumb!
Good show.
What a beautiful deck, with an awesome view! Cable railing or glass panels would have finished it off nicely too. Enjoyed the watch and ideas, thanks!
Great video. You can dust the dirt under the deck with a layer of Portland cement then give it a soak. It will help with erosion and some pest.
Good job fellas !!
Ray looks good 👍
Ray looks great! Keep that new look!
I am watching several craftsman / builders etc. on youtube. But only you guys have the talent to deliver in every video. For years now. Great work men.
That deck looks amazing! Looks like he is going to get to enjoy many years of hanging out on the deck an enjoying that creek!
Nice ingenuity on the railing and thanks for painting those tan decimate screws. They looked bad. PBB for the win again!
Beautiful work. Congratulations to you guys and him.

I believe you can heat bend PVC tubes with a heat gun or with one of those blowtorches used to seal flat roof insulation/waterproof membranes.
We used to dip them into hot oil and slip them onto a form.

How about painting one side on all sitting side by side. Then rotate them and paint the next while that side drys and so on?
Love the videos.... But I have a question on why don't you use ledger flashing or joist tape on the decks you build or replace?
"Great Job guys, per usual", Ray What a transformation with the beard, "WOW"............
Looks beautiful , another quaility job by the Perkins Builders !
1:02 Yes they do. Flex-Drain for example.

Ray's looking awesome today!
Looks really neat and tidy. Like the double corners.
Why didn't you route a cannel in the 2 x 4 to accept the rib on the decking for the handrail? It would have been stronger.
would gone with plexi glass as deck railing and keep that view of the creek.
What glasses with side shields is Jason wearing?
Safety glasses
SafeStyle is the brand

Did the lady Wade fishing catch anything? Love your team’s attention to detail.👍👍
I wonder if you could just use the same screws for the Trex, as you do the pickets. They would sink in and then disappear.
Ray looks so much better! (Without that carpet in the face😂) Greetings from Hamburg, Germany

Pre-painting makes things easier he said. A minute later they’re on ground painting under the deck. Funny. Great build all.
Deck came out great..... and I have much more confidence in this then the original design! Great job guys
Wow!! Ray. What an improvement. Didn't recognize you. You look really good.
Its always fun to watch you guys. I am not in the department of building but you guys make me jealous.
pre-drill counter sink bit for pickets no spliting
