2:16 onwards really reminds me of Borodin's Polovtsian Dances, really beautiful.
The performers of these are from the Berlin philharmonic
What an amazing piece, thank you for sharing!
One of my favorite composers, especially for his 2nd Symphony...
......"The Zaporozhian Cossacks"....Rakhmaninov's unacknowledged debt to Glière....
....Andante at 14:40....ein Wünder !
Charming piece! Definitely needs to be played more often, though pretty tricky, a lot of figurations. It would also work perfectly well at slightly slower tempi
the poco agitato (2:58), Rehearsal number 2 of the third movement (14:36), and the feroce in the 4th movement (21:30) all rank in my top 5 excerpts from any classical piece I've ever listened to
Thank you!! It's a wonderful thing to see the score too!!
Very Tchaikovsky like!!!
great stuff. how come I've never heard of Glière?
You haven't delved deep enough.
It’s fine if you haven’t you have now!
Look out for his songs. They are wonderful.
Glière composed "Russian Sailor's Dance". Check it out.
