  • There have been several famous Boeing 747s over the decades.
The Queen of the Skies has delighted many and served a wide range of roles across its decades of service. The jets have also notably been modified to suit various purposes - with roles ranging from engine testbed, transporting US presidents to carrying oversized items. Indeed one of these extra large items was the American Space Shuttle!
However, one special 747's legacy continues long after it’s time as a passenger aircraft.

Cosmic girl went from ferrying passengers on exciting flights to delivering spacecraft to space and now being the mothership for advancing Hypersonic Flight shes got one hell of a career before and for the foreseeable future

I like your comment and I agree. This aircraft only did 14 years with virgin Atlantic
Since then her flight cycles have fallen dramatically.
So I reckon she’ll be good for at least another 10 years, probably longer.
The life she has now is far easier than when she was racing to and from New York every day.
You keep going Cosmic Girl 👍

It was strange how Virgin Orbit abruptly dissolved. I remember watching the “failed “ launch 🚀 live and seeing something was wrong but they weren’t talking about it for a few Minutes, then finally they said it appears there’s been an anomaly and the rocket will not be continuing on its way. Glad Stratolaunch will keep Cosmic Girl flying ….surprised you didn’t mention Stargazer , the former Air Canada L-1011 modified by Orbital Technologies (now Northrop Grumman) that does similar high altitude launches 🚀

I agree with you, so one rocket anomaly broke the whole company! ?
Finances must’ve been very precarious for that to occur.
You would have thought that they would have expected some failures in the early days and had plans and finances in place in order to ride out such hiccups.
There must be more to the story.

It just goes to show the stringent safety and reliability checks of modern day aviation authorities when a company like Boeing, who made the 737 and 746 work horses, can't get the new 777X into service on schedule. Yet their older 747s are still carrying cargo and people and invloved in space programmes and scientific research.
