‼IMPORTANT NOTE‼ About a month ago I created a video where I addressed the discrimination many Russians faced due to Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. One of the main criticism of the videos was that "Over 75% of Russians voted for Putin, and 88% support the war". However, these numbers are impossible to be accurately accounted and therefore should not be taken at face value. In this video I go over the methods & techniques the Russian Government (United Russia & Putin) utilize in falsifying these numbers & touch upon the legislation regulating the country regarding elections & data collection. In no way am I implying no Russian has agency because the system is corrupt. All I am saying is, take the numbers presented with a huge grain of salt because of these methods. Alongside them, a variety of other factors skew the numbers. I will talk about them in future (a) video(s). Alongside supporting me, consider also supporting the Ukrainian refugees this winter as the war continues going on donate.unhcr.org/int/en/ukraine-emergency

I think most people in the west (your audience) already knows this. And as this is a follow-up to your previous video, I shall reiterate my point from back then: As a Russian living in western Europe I can state that there is no such thing as an irrational fear or hatered of Russians here. The so-called "russophobia" does not meaningfully exist in practice and is entirely invented by the Putin regime as a propaganda tool. Irrational hatered for Americans is entirely more common. I can hardly speak for other western countries in Eastern Europe or America, but I doubt it´s a real issue there either.

Here's another great one you've missed. I'm not sure if it's as popular in Russia as it is where I am, but it's probable:
Government focuses heavily on the aging population. They are catering to retirees, doing things like sending them aid packages, increasing pensions just before elections, yapping the rhetoric that old farts just love to gobble up... Young people, however, are mostly disenfranchised with politics and generally won't even bother voting. We're well aware that the opposition is the exact same scum as the ruling party, and we generally see voting as a waste of time. I have to go there, go through the procedure to cast my vote, knowing full well that it won't change anything even if the party I vote for wins by some miracle.
Frankly, last time I did vote, I felt like a complete idiot. I was a bit ashamed of even bothering with it.

Btw during the 2020 (?) elections when my grandma went to the voting post, the post's monitor was extremely surprised, since she "has already voted", judging by their internal database. So as far back as 2020 (once again, not sure about the exact year) United Russia could pick citizens that were either unlikely to show up or of senior age to vote for them without their say in it.

Orban doesn't have nearly as much support or power as Putin does and could never get away with killing or imprisoning opposition and violent crackdowns on civilians. It far more likely that things will just continue the way they are until he retires or dies at which point whoever he endorses or appoints will most likely become our next ruler.
Orban's chief concern seems to be money and wealth and second to that is Hungary itself. You cant expect him to ever do anything that would threaten his income. But rarely he does actually do his job. Usually during election seasons. So you could never realistically see him do anything risky like what Putin pulls off. And he has no need to, as killing an opposition leader or shooting into a crowd of protesters wont make him wealthier.
He's just a greedy landlord not a tyrant.

  • @mercs7849
    @mercs7849 7 месяцев назад +178

In earlier, less cannibalistic times, I was once an observer during presidential elections held in one of the regions. Violence threats towards observers, closed ballot box counting rooms in schools, mysterious "voting places for people with no confirmed registration" (which had FULL BUSES of people delivered to them during the night) and etc were common. It was even before Crimea (before 2014). It's way worse now. Russia is just not a democracy, because there is no separation of power. Cops, judges, politicians, even high-profile priests(!) - are all part of a single syndicate, and face no reprecussions for their actions whatsoever. Because if a son of a politician does a criminal whoopsie, the cop would turn a blind eye and the judge would not sentence them. It is just not possible to fight Russia from within, the regime is that consolidated. In a "normal" political system, if some politician fails, makes mistakes, does crime - it can be used by other candidate to oust them, the media would swoop and gnaw at their bones, they would have to maintain their rating somehow, etc. This just doesn't happen in Russia at all! They can do almost whatever they want, be as deranged, stupid and utterly unprofessional as they want - all that doesn't matter. They just need to be loyal and place the votes and decisions as they are told from above. There is literally no politics in russia, it's all fake.

America is certainly not a democracy and hardly a republic either. Actually we are a lot like Russia in very many ways, simply better at putting on a show to conceal it. A dictatorship of the bourgeoisie is not a democracy whether it’s one strong leader supported by capitalists or they chose amongst themselves who will run the country for the people. At least in Russia people are wise enough to see through the charade. Some support it, some are coerced into accepting it and others unsuccessfully try to resist it. In America very few people are aware enough to even oppose it in principle in their mind, let alone try to do anything to end it.

Almost no one with at least minimum knowledge on russia thinks so. However those "poor russians", ofc they have never had any free elections. But whose responsible for that? russian society. Also does it change the fact that they are responsible of 500 years of genocaides and expansion, enslaving various european and asian nations? They entire "culture" is abour continous expansion and worshipping they shithole state. And yes maybe numbers are not exactly accurate, yet for sure most of russians support putin&war and it s proved by all independent public polls. It also says a lot about russians that the only valid opposition candidate was nationalists navalny with same genocaidal plans (but anti putin and anti corruption so west loves him). The russian nation never rebelled to achieve freedom from any of those regimes tsars, bolsheviks, putin, they simply lioe to be treated like this by their authorities and they fully desrved that. All I want is russians staying in their shithole, not attacking everyone around. We in central Europe and Baltics can build successful developed states and simply want rus to try to do the same in their country. Yet it is simply it s impossible as is russia not being genocaidal state. This is simply part of rus "cultur" and mentality. So whether red white or putinist rus will always be an enemy

These are demotivated and frightened people whose main objective is often to, well, survive and to stock up some money in case something bad happens (it happens all the time). It should not come as a surprise, that majority of Russians are politically inactive and/or clueless. Not only because they simply got no time to be interested in politics, but also because government has a monopoly over a large chunk of mass media, so they see only what the government wants them to see. To sum up, I'll also mention that majority is always being taught that "it's not us who makes decisions" and such, that also develops nation-wide learned helplessness. Once again, thanks a lot! If this video is meant to convince me that Putin's support is exaggerated then it failed completely. I don't think anyone who doesn't like Russians thinks elections in Russia are fair and a legit way to measure support for the government. Fact is that all of the independent surveys give Putin a 80% approval rating. Even with a vide range of options and taking into account self censoring the most optimistic procentige of respondents who think that Russia should “cease hostilities while maintaining the occupied territories” is 28%.
Just type "independent surveys of putin's support in russia" and every result will be similar, doesn't matter who makes the survey.
    Here are the realities:
Most Russians while being apolitical support status quo and don't mind the war. They are used to sanctions, know that they live in an autocratic state and either accept it as a fact that they can't change or just don't care. Then we have a sizeble portion of the Z Russians. They are actively pro war ranging from pro Putin to the ones dissapointed with the stalement and Putin. And at the end we have the actuall anti Putin population.
It annoys me greatly when people say to me "Those poor Russians, they are basically hostages to Putin's regime while being innocent.", especially when there are literally millions of Russians who wouldn't care if Putin invaded my country (or even cheered it) as long as their standard of living doesn't go down by too much.

Beside that, I'd even say that even those who did vote for Putin aren't bad people. They are just people who had a different ideological upbringing (indoctrination) than most of you did. Everyone is indoctrinated. It is not because you think the invasion of Ukraine is completely unjustified that it actually is and likewise it is not becausee you think that is is completely justified that it actually is. We all experience extreme brainwashing from a very young age, which instills various ideologies and preferences into our brains.
Depending on what kind of brainwashing you underwent, depending on your parents, friends, socio-economic situation, your education, etnicity, religious beliefs, what media you're exposed to and many other factors, you will trust or distrust specific experts or organisations, like your own national media or the media from other countries.
People who are from a country that was bombed by the US, will be less likely to believe Western media. People who are natives in a NATO country will trust Western media a lot more and distrust Russian media. Some media are also better at convincing people that they tell the truth than other media. This however in no way means that they are actually telling the truth. Reading a lot about propaganda and especially propaganda in liberal democracies might open your eyes.
Democracy basically just means that you are free to express whatever idea was pumped into your brain from a very young age. No more, no less. The beauty of democracy only lies in the fact that it can falsely make people believe that they decide who governs and that they contributed to the formation of new laws. i.e. why would you protest against rules if you chose them?
Were people who voted for Clinton or Bush bad people in general? Ofcourse not. Likelwise people who vote for or otherwise support any leader of a nation that opposes the US are not bad people either. If you generally vote with the majority in your own nation, chances are that if you grew up in Russia you'd support Putin and if you grew up in china you'd support Xi Jinping. You're basically hating on people who are no different from yourself, but just were born in another political bloc.
I'd say the most emotionally intelligent people probably understand this. Basically always consider the possibility that your side could be wrong and always try to put yourself in the shoes of others to understand their reasoning.
Russia or Putin are not evil. The US is not evil either. They just do what any other nation would do in their positions: try to keep control and dominate other nations and mostly deny control to their competitors. No nation would just allow their main competitor to come and capture their entire sphere of influence that they took ages to get without putting up a fight, if they were in a position to put up a fight. The US wouldn't, the UK wouldn't, and any other nation that is now criticising Russia wouldn't. They would literally do the exact same thing in the exact same situation, democracy or not. Or is anyone here truly as naive to believe that if the Mexican government requested a Chinese military presence to protect them against the US, the US would be like: "Oh if this is the democratic wish of the Mexican people, we will honor it?" They would obliterate Mexico and you know it. And it wouldn't care for the unfortunate civilian casualties any more than Russia does. It would be the most devastating display of military power ever seen in the history of mankind. (for this reason Mexico will likely never even consider trying this as long as the US is at the level of power that it currently is)

Thanks for another astute video. Critical thinking is in such short supply these days.

Strange, Critical Theory is taught in schools for years now. Maybe that's why.

This is a liberal echo-chamber where confirmation bias runs rampant. The state of Russia 20 years ago when Putin took power and now is one of the most hopeful and amazing transformations that Russia has experienced. As long as Putin is in power, this will continue, otherwise the country would have been torn apart by western investors and turned into another US vassal, much like Evropa.

False equivalence. The Japanese and Americans typically don’t rig their elections in favor of the current party.
