There's something hillarious about Russia being a founder of two international groups (CIS and BRICS) whose members are fighting against each other (Armenia vs Azerbeijan and China vs India)
Yea RUclipsrs and Americans tend to do that, Russia tried to make it one, China and India immediately wanted Russia to side with them against the other one. And Brazil and South Africa didn't care for it, and wanted no part in such a alliance.

@@gidi3250BRICS being a military alliance is about as much of a joke as it being an economic one. Literally all of those countries hate each other. China has several claims on Indian territory, and China and Russia have had off and on border skirmishes since the Sino-Soviet split. South Africa and Brazil kinda just exist. They don’t have that powerful of armies and have no intentions on invading their neighbors.
As a Brazilian I think it's so funny that people think we are going to war, the first time the economical alliance becomes a military one we deepin'😂😂😂
There basically never had been a economic bloc that became a military one. the EU is the closest but no one treats that one mutual defense clause seriously, not even themselves. It was tacked on years later and is like half way in the treaty. It is so new and untested, it might as well not exist. Even if BRICS does add a military related clause, its unlikely to be upheld due to the members not being friendly with each other. A military alliance that can't keep its word is a useless one and has no deterrent value.

As an Indian it seems impossible to ally with China especially considering that they keep claiming my state of Arunachal Pradesh as theirs, but politics aside Indians and chinese are economically very pragmatic and trade has been growing every year. Even at the heights of tension when soldiers were bashing each other in a melee at Galwan, Chinese investment in our infrastructure projects grew and India kept purchasing chinese goods in the billions. I wrote my master thesis about the OCA theory some years back. Nothing changed. I can tell you that common currency in that BRICS is next to impossible. No stability, no common goals, no proximity, complete differences between the economies, their sizes etc. If you look at the EU, not all countries have Euro. My country Poland does not have it as meeting convergence criteria comes at giant expense. How do you imagine Brazil adopting Renminbi as their currency. Then even as a reserve currency it would mean that Brazil would need to put all the trust in communist regime that sees China as the center of the world. If it comes to this kind of things, the West is collectively some 200 years ahead and it won't change in a century to come. It's just something that sells well in the media, "oh BRICS do this or that, be careful, world ends" blah blah.

Hi! I'm Brazilian, and nobody here thinks BRICS is meant to "overthrow the west", it is purely an economic alliance, not a military one. BRICS has literally not affected our daily lives whatsoever. There is no BRICS free travel zone or BRICS common currency, it is not like the EU or NATO. An alliance that actually HAS affected our daily lives and functions more like the EU is Mercosul, which is like an EU but for South America only. Not a military alliance either, by the way. And unlike the EU it hasn't yet created a common currency or abolished borders between member states, it has only made travel and immigration easier. Also, ask any Brazilian and they will tell you that we consider ourselves to be part of "the West™", as we speak an European language, are majority Christian, are located in the Western hemisphere and we are a capitalist (although corrupt) democracy.
Thanks for the comment, hopefully I can clarify why certain European commentators didn't think of that - most people I meet in the UK and Germany think that Brazilians speak Spanish, and they can only name two cities in the whole country. It's embarrassing for me to admit it, but if I hadn't met a girl from Piauí a few years ago, I would probably be just as ignorant as they are today. Amo muito de Brasil, e quero melhorar meu português, mais é uma língua difícil! 😅

Here from India wanting to say: 1. UAE, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran joined BRICS just today (24th Aug 2023). 2. BRICS is just an economic alliance where economic cooperation benefits each one of us. There is no need to fear from BRICS. Idk why people from west are seeing BRICS a threat to NATO and G7. It's just a bunch of nations who want to develop better. That's it.
The only europeans I know that talk about BRICS are the ones that are Z-enthusiasts. Most of them dream that BRICS will somehow, overnight, turn into a NATO fierce rival (?!?) and "overthrow the globalist agenda" (?!?)
I only hear about BRICS from anti-western russians, arabs and indians who unironically believe its somehow going to become a superpower with united currency and military and ground the west into dust. This rhetoric is why many people are seeing it as a threat.
People need to understand that this is just beggining of the BRICS. European union didn't become super union when they made it in the first place. BRICS will work, but not now, in future, far future, more or less.
@@Ghost-gp6ct well, both of them know they will eventually have to come to an agreement, war would mean destruction of the planet as both have nuclear bombs. While the US Dollar has slightly dropped in value in recent times, there isn't a bank rush of any sort to exchange US Dollar to something like the Chinese Renminbi. Heck, nobody is dumping all of their US Dollars en masse.
Chinese currency cannot take over the dollar though, because there is no single chinese currency. They actually have 3. The Renminbi, the Yuan and an electronic currency. Not all of these 3 currencies are accepted by the Chinese government in every domain/transaction. Which makes the Chinese currency thing untrustworthy for traders on the global market. The reason why it can work is because of natural resources, simply as that. China comes as an economical & manpower backbone, India is an double-agent, everyone else are resource bases. In case of Russia it also has a something-something that is melting with each year passing, containing an astronomical amount of energy resources & sea route in Russian territorial waters. In case of IMF - it would give you money even if it knows for sure that you won't be able to pay it back in near 200 years and that exactly what it wants. As the "concern" about your ability to pay grows, they will propose "different methods" of paying which you wouldn't be able to refuse. There's no way Ukraine would be able to pay back 100 billion loan IMF had approved, given that Ukraine's GDP is around 200 billion, a third of country is would be in ruins (given that they would get it back) and more than 1/4 of the population had moved away and likely won't be coming back. And about "a reserve currency controlled by a liberal-democracy" - that liberal democracy is constantly throwing a tantrum that Russians hacked their elections, openly supporting separatists around the globe, can decide to randomly invade you under some fancy operation name, holding the trigger of cutting you off from the rest of the world, and not being a subject of any international law out there. In the same sense you don't want one business to control the entire sphere, you don't want to have only one reserve currency which enables a shitshow we're witnessing today. If countries are willingly picking BRICS over current G7, there's something really wrong with this G7.

Here from India wanting to say:
@@meelooxavier6502Can't wait for the Iran-Saudi-Arabia gang to overthrow NATO and globalist agenda. 😂😂😂
Literally no one sees them as an actual threat to NATO or G7, because those groups have actual shared values and are actual allies.
@@papanasicuafineBRICS do have shared values tho, cheap access to eachother's markets, money talks and everyone wants it to.

How about India and china, those two can't even agree on their own border.
@@Ghost-gp6ct well, both of them know they will eventually have to come to an agreement, war would mean destruction of the planet as both have nuclear bombs. And plus, BRICS isn't a military alliance, it's an economic one, border disputes and other territorial problems will stay out of BRICS (i hope they will at least try). Just look at current members, Ethiopia and Egypt, China and India as you said, Possibly Saudi Arabia and Iran in the future, these countries hate each other, but BRICS may help them work closer together, plus, everyone will benefit (at the very least i hope).

@@Sp1tfire100They're not. BRICS is just an economic forum. And there's no way these two would cooperate since they'd fight each other in a border war and India is more alligned with the US than China.
While the US Dollar has slightly dropped in value in recent times, there isn't a bank rush of any sort to exchange US Dollar to something like the Chinese Renminbi. Heck, nobody is dumping all of their US Dollars en masse.
And now the Dollar is rebounding. De-Dollarization is such a joke lmao.
None of the other BRICS countries even have a chance of imposing their currency as a global one. Maybe India in the distant future.
And few banks collapsed, buy hey, who is counting...🤔

What I like about the western segment of RUclips is how they themselves speak loudly about something, then they sort it out themselves, win a discussion with themselves and then sit in public like winners with a satisfied look. Making a straw man, Don Quixote.
This alliance was primarily created for lower duties and easier access to the market between each other, and what about the confrontation between the United States and Brics? It has never been created anywhere and never as an alliance with common "goals" regarding some kind of moral or military principles like the European Union or NATO, it was created as an economic and political platform to facilitate access to each other's markets, no more, just for this they want strengthen their currencies to trade not with the dollar, but with their own currency. You are comparing countries with a long unstable and large number of people In different parts of the world, wich countries are invited to it without special quotas, as the European Union does, and at the same time you are comparing it with a relatively calm European Union. Bravo dude. Just bravo. Boiling water you probably confuse with 0 degrees?
