We (in Denmark) just got the recall today - by the looks of it, most, if not all EV6'es are being recalled - even one delivered last week. (mine is from Q1 23)
Nice catch! :-) I called my dealer today and he said that he hadn’t heard of a recall. I told him of your new here and he checked his computer which eventually concurred with you and I have my car booked in for the update next week! So, thank you very much and have a great Easter 😊
2022 Ioniq 5 SE. My vehicle had the ICCU replaced last week along with software updates in about two hours. SW Ohio. The next day at a 150 kw Electrify America the car showed 172 kw while charging. 11 minutes. Very fast. I credit the new items as the fastest speed prior at same station was a 127 kw. VERY Happy!
Regarding drivability after ICCU failure -- When mine failed, I could indeed drive it for 15-20 minutes but with limited power and max speed was 40km/h (I think, or it may have been 30).
Yay! Glad to see Hyundai Motors being pro-active in making sure that the vehicles they sell are functioning as intended. Cannot say the same for my previous Tesla. I've already set an appointment for my 2024 Ioniq 5 to have the recall performed next week. High five, Hyundai!
My 2024 Kia ev6 stop working now a 4 month wait to get it fixed. I got the notice late in the mail due to the fact that I live in Canada and the post office worker’s we’re on strike. I had check my vin but nothing came up. Do the replacement part come from Korea to take so long?
Well, my 2023 GT-line just died. 6a.m. in the morning wife got stuck driving to work. Lucky for me the dealer is less than 10 minutes from my house so that's where it went for a really early drop-off. Guess I will be getting in touch with a dealer to let them know about the recall to speed up that loaner :)
So, I did receive a recall letter from Kia for my 2023 EV6 GT-Line. However recall is SC295 for a drive shift issue. Had appointment couple weeks ago and they did replace the part but had no info on a new ICCU software update. Haven’t received any other letters regarding recalls.
Jeff , very informative video I have the I5 SEL 2022 but received a BMS message on my screen and brought the vehicle into the dealer and after a few days was told I needed a new battery and not the 12v one! Hyundai America’s service tech’s confirmed this and now its been 6 weeks without my car and no ETA on battery replacement. Part of this delay is due to the ransomeware issue plaguing the parts ordering system that hit over 6500 car dealers here and in Europe. Have you heard a reason why the EV battery would need replacement because the dealer cant tell me why? In your opinion once the battery is replaced would you keep the car or not? Fortunately the battery replacement is covered by the 100k mile warranty and the car only has 23,000 miles. As much as I live my I5 I’m torn about what to do. Any advice would be welcomed Many thanks
Oh wow. They should be able to tell you why the main high voltage battery needs to be replaced. It could be a number of things related to the cells. I wouldn't worry after it's replaced. You'll have a new battery and got a free 23k miles 😀
I heard Kia dealerships will get the Sc- 302 notice by April 25 so I set my appt for 29th ( have no issue ) Kia owners may have it posted by then too before a mailed notice Thx for the heads up ! My dealer had nothing in his system…
I’m in the uk and my ioniq 6 had a service and iccu update early December this year. Car died the 23rd December, the recovery dude said the on board dc charger isn’t charging the 12v battery and to get it to the garage he put a replacement battery and a power pack in my car so we could get it back to the dealership. As of today no idea how progress is going. My car already had a new motor and impeller replacement when it was under 1k mileage and I’m looking to see just what that means because I don’t and I’d like to know. Luckily they were replaced under warranty but apparently parts are scarce for this iccu error so no idea how long I won’t have my car for.
@ I’m just grateful there is folk like you explaining what the issue is. Because I didn’t. I’m assuming though that it’s gonna be a new iccu and fuse? If I’ve understood this correctly? It sucks as I’m a wheelchair user and this car is my freedom. Got an MG4 as a hire car but it’s not the same. Not even in the same postcode as the same. Crossing my fingers for an update in the new year
@ yeah I called them today to get an update as it’s been there since 23rd, and you are correct, needs a new iccu and fuse. They expect the parts in next week but to expect a new year delay which is fine. At least it’s not on back order. Thank you for being so awesome in making sense of what’s happened this time. I really appreciate it!
I recently experienced an unfortunate incident with my EV6, which resulted in me being stranded on the side of the road. I took my vehicle to the dealership for diagnosis and repair. The dealership informed me that it would take approximately two weeks to identify the issue. Fortunately, they were able to complete the diagnosis and repair within one week. However, I was inconvenienced by not having access to my car during that time.
my ICCU recently failed as well. My dealer (in Canada) said they only provide a loaner if the parts are on back order. Fortunately they diagnosed and fixed mine in about 4 days @@TechnicallyJeff
Jeff, thanks again for keeping us updated on the current software and recalls of the Kia EV 6. Considering I bought this in 2022 it’s been a great performing car and I have not been disappointed at all. There were other cars I was considering but I realized I made the right choice and so did you any idea on the transition DATE FOR NACS coming up?
So i bought my 2024 GT 2 days ago. Should i be worried. The dealer said everything was updated and ghe software was up to date. Is there a way to checking the infotament to see if your software is up to date?
I wouldn't be worried at this point. I haven't heard of many issues lately. Your app will show if your vehicle has an outstanding recall with a notification. Enjoy your GT!
@@TechnicallyJeff Thanks Still getting used to the car, too many features. I was going to get a white one like yours but the Red one in person looks so good so ended up with that :)
I actually was working on a deal on a red one and switched to the white lol. It's such a fun car. Let me know if you have any questions about anything.
I was waiting to hear if this possibly could address the AC charging termination problem. The English fellow who does "EV Odessy" mentioned that the ICCU has multiple functions, but that one of those has to do with AC charging. I took my EV6 in last August when they checked for the presence of the DTC for the recall problem. I thought the supposed fix for the AC charging glitch was ELE 283 which throttles the current down rather than completely stopping it. I did not have them do that one. I've still been able to charge with my CPH50 at 40A, but I'd like to have the full power back in case I need it. Back in August they did to the SC271 so, even though we've never had the ICCU failure notification, I should have the software upgraded.
Yeah I haven't heard anything related to that with regards to the fix for the iccu. I know that ICCU does a lot of things in the vehicle and when it fails that's obviously a big issue. But I don't know if it being replaced fixes charging speeds. From what I've seen, the best fix has been a full charge port replacement.
It sounds like when this happens, it’s sudden and not something you would see signs of before failure. The fact that I see the indicator light that shows when the 12v is being charged illuminated occasionally doesn’t mean necessarily that all is well. Is that your understanding, too? Thanks for keeping us informed.
I'm happy to help. Yeah when the ICCU fails, you have minutes before the car is undriveable. The orange light showing the 12v is charging is fine to see as long as it's not all the time. More than once a day would be concerning.
Good luck, mine has been in the shop since January for a blown ICCU/fuse. It had the previous patch. The dealers are swamped and do not have enough techs. Although if they had used the money they made on markups they could have hired them. If I knew what I know now I would have towed it to a bigger market, probably up there with you Jeff. The Norfolk area is no good.
It took a week for them to scan it, then a few more for the parts to come in. They did not have them in stock. Once the parts came it had to wait in line again (bad planning). Once it was finally ready to go in, I was told within 24 hours. The tech quit. This was the VB dealer, the Chesapeake dealer is just as busy. Corporate is involved, i'm not sure if they have a tech or not now. Communication is horrible. Of course they are going to cover all my payments, and expenses but I still have not had a car the last couple months. Just a big mess and both Kia and the dealers are to blame. Kia for letting this problem occur in the first place and the dealers for just taking all that markup cash and not putting in into techs. If you live in a smaller market don't use your local dealer would be my advice. Sadly, they don't know what they are doing.@@TechnicallyJeff
Man I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. It's good they are covering your costs, but still, it's unacceptable it's taking this long. Hopefully it gets fixed soon!
@@DavidBassX. Believe me it’s no better in the Atlanta market either, Lack of techs and training. I have a 2022 Kia Ev6 with tech pkg. that’s why I am selling mine as soon as the market gets better. I am going back to Tesla. I have had the phantom battery drain since I purchased it. Dealership says can’t find any issues and all current on software updates. I want to like the car but Kia/ Hyundai has a lot to prove to get my business again. Don’t anyone say Tesla awful. I’ve owned three Teslas and been very satisfied. Funny how the car reviewers don’t follow up with customer satisfaction reviews. To think that this condition exists since 2022 and across their entire platform of EGMP vehicles. I know it’s not every car of theirs. Hyundai/ Kia’s reputation is on the chopping block, not to mention their ice vehicles with no anti-theft ignition problems. Tread lightly Hyundai / Kia, the public is watching you!
Just another question, I have changed the cabin air filter, but is there anything we need to clean for the heat pump system in the way of filtration any ideas?
I'm considering purchasing a used 2023 EV Wind. I have looked at two models and checked both VINs against the NHTSA and Kia recall databases, and neither car shows having an open recall. Does this mean that Kia hasn't gotten around to coding those VINs as needing the recall? I don't see any evidence on the Auto Check that service has been done for a recall. I looked at the NHTSA documentation, and it seems the recall covers the entire 2022 and 2023 model years. Also, does this recall aim to fix the overheating issue when charging on Level 2? I'm a bit confused. Thank you for posting your videos!
The ICCU Recall is just starting so that will take about a month. Regarding overheating charge ports, that's a separate issue but I wouldn't let that keep you from getting the car. It's great.
This actually happened to me last year with Hyundai Ioniq 5. Dealer replace battery and ICCU parts but I guess I need to take it in again for software update.
I am several weeks after this ICCU Update.. and last week.. i got "power managemenet failure" and now caer is in the service. Did not have any issue before that ICCUE update.. EV6 GT. Sad.
thanks for the great info Jeff. Do you know if it's possible for owners to check the software version of the ICCU? My ICCU was recently replaced and it would be nice to confirm the most recent software is installed. thanks.
The last years ICCU update actually killed my lead acid battery. This was around Labor Day 2023. This happened over the weekend so I bought a new battery from AutoZone. They endup taking my dead battery and Kia dealership said they were get me reimbursed. I still haven't seen this money yet. Almost tempted to ask for a replacement battery to put on my shelf at this point.
Do you know if a service department could inspect the car (I have a 2024 Ioniq 6 in this case..), they would determine it's just a software update and the existing ICCU is fine? Or is it both software update + ICCU part replacement regardless?
Just called my dealer in Missoula Montana and they have not been notified yet. Should they be able to pull that up in there direct Kia software information?
This ICCU failure in my EV6 just happened to me. Unfortunately, I was on a narrow road where I could not easily pull off. I did pull off about 1.5 miles after the warnings came on, and the car was completely dead shortly thereafter. Not a fun experience.
Since I own an I5, I'm curious about the experience of driving AFTER this update. Are there any changes worth noting? Does it drive about the same, better or worse? Did they slip Apple Car Play / Android Auto? jk on the last question.
There shouldn't be any changes to the driving experience after the update. It just updates the software for the ICCU itself. I wish it gave us wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay 😅
@TechnicallyJeff Considering it's the same platform, it makes sense the EV9s would also have the same problem. I'm in the process of having my EV6 GT bought back and was thinking about the Ioniq 5 N, but I have a feeling the N will have the same issue.
Me and the wife are very close to purchasing a 2024 ultimate AWD. (not waiting for 2025 because of the deal on the lease). Would anyone happen to know if these are affecting the 2024 models just as much? I am aware that this issue is 22-24, although haven't seen much talk about the 24 models. much appreciated!
If they replce bad ICCUs with the same part, not re-designed or built differently, won't the same problem be lurking in terms of a future failures? OR is the thinking that the new software will prevent future failures with the same ICCU module?
That's irritating. Well they are supposed to be notified officially next month (before Hyundai dealers for the Ioniq 5 actually). So I guess we'll have to wait a month.
Well it is not a link I just receive the Update this morning . It seems it is an OTA update for Maps and Sound or simply for performance. When I updated it it only says Improved performance. So weird. I wish I could share with u at least the picture of update in progress but thats all I have. 😢
Thank you Jeff for providing this very important information. Would you happen to know the service campaign number? That way I can reference it when calling my dealer...
I had mine updated just today, be careful the car lost some functionality as a result of whatever was done. (lazy-boy mode during charging no longer works) has anyone else had complications?
@@TechnicallyJeff yeh man, button above the seat adjuster (up,down, forward, back) in 🇦🇺 if you tap the back side of the button it will ask you to check if anything’s is behind the driver seat and then if you tap it again to confirm will literally lay right back so you can relax or have a nap while it charges on those longer trips to rest.
This isn't the type of thing I would hold off getting completed. There isn't really a risk of messing something up, however you may have an ICCU issue which leaves you stranded at some point.
@@TechnicallyJeff 6 week wait just to have the diagnostics done then once they do this and confirm the ICCU fault i then have to wait for the part to come in and an appointment to fit it as it takes a few days the last ICCU took 3 months to be fitted? its mental
This is happening to me right now. Suck on the side of the road waiting for roadside assistance to come pick me and the car up. I hope kia does the right thing. I need my loaner while this is addressed
Nice advert video. How about ask the hard questions, why did Kia do an ICCU recall, SC271, when in reality that software update appears to that have been nothing more than an earlier diagnosis of ICCU failure patch. Why now should we believe that this latest update will fix the problem? Where's the transparency from Kia? You should be asking the hard questions, why did Kia apply SC271?, did they mislead customers?, was SC271 a failure?, exactly what will be done, and why, in the latest recall?
I wouldn't call it an advertisement video... I'm just trying to let people know what's going on. Regarding SC271, I highly doubt they put that out to mislead customers. That would be very expensive for them and obviously a bad thing to do. It seems they tried to fix the issue with that TSB, but it did not work since there were some that still had issues with their ICCU after the update.
@TechnicallyJeff Fair point, my apologies, not fair to call to it a Kia advert. I did read a Hyundai technician saying months ago that SC271 would provide earlier diagnosis of the failure (and therefore make the car less likely to fail outright whilst driving and cause an accident), but would not prevent failure of ICCU. This makes me believe that Kia/Hyundai misled the public about SC271. Hopefully the latest update will actually prevent failure.
I haven't read anywhere that they knew it wouldn't prevent failure of the ICCU. If so, that's annoying and what'd be the point of a software update. But yeah hopefully this update will actually stop them from failing.
Like cooled seats (model 3 just got them), V2L (I can power most of my house), gauges behind the wheel, sunroof. I like Teslas. I'd love to have a Model X. But that doesn't mean they are better than everything else.
@@TechnicallyJeff Yeah, Tesla's are pretty much better than anything else. They ONLY thing the Hyundai can do is reverse charge which is really a gimmick and not going for overall battery health. Should have bought Tesla, should have bought AMERICAN.
Not a gimmick. My power just went out and I'm literally powering my house right now lol. And that's not bad for battery health. It's not a fast discharge rate and it doesn't go below 20% SOC.

Any ICCU parameters that can be monitored with ODB scanner that might provide an early identification of ICCU problems?
There are a lot of parameters you can monitor but I'm not sure which ones would provide an early indication.

2022 Ioniq 5 SE. My vehicle had the ICCU replaced last week along with software updates in about two hours. SW Ohio.
@@DavidBassXWow! Just Wow!
Nope nothing we need to do there.
It's great.
Thank you so much for the response,@@TechnicallyJeff!
Of course!
This actually happened to me last year with Hyundai Ioniq 5. Dealer replace battery and ICCU parts but I guess I need to take it in again for software update.
Oh that's not fun. Yeah you'll need the new update.
I am several weeks after this ICCU Update.. and last week.. i got "power managemenet failure" and now caer is in the service.
Did not have any issue before that ICCUE update..
EV6 GT. Sad.
Oh really? I haven't heard of that issue. Do they know what it is?
@@TechnicallyJeff you may have. There are comments in your topic on KiaEVForums.
People with same issue after ICCU update.
I'll have to read through that thread.
thanks for the great info Jeff. Do you know if it's possible for owners to check the software version of the ICCU? My ICCU was recently replaced and it would be nice to confirm the most recent software is installed. thanks.
Yes I'm pretty sure we can see it in car scanner using a Bluetooth obd2 reader
The last years ICCU update actually killed my lead acid battery. This was around Labor Day 2023. This happened over the weekend so I bought a new battery from AutoZone. They endup taking my dead battery and Kia dealership said they were get me reimbursed. I still haven't seen this money yet. Almost tempted to ask for a replacement battery to put on my shelf at this point.
Oh that's frustrating. Yeah might be good to have an extra.
Jeff has the dealer in your area received the update for the ICU software issue issue?
not yet unfortunately.
Do you know if a service department could inspect the car (I have a 2024 Ioniq 6 in this case..), they would determine it's just a software update and the existing ICCU is fine?
Or is it both software update + ICCU part replacement regardless?
Yes they will inspect the ICCU and determine if it needs to be replaced or if a software update will be sufficient
Just called my dealer in Missoula Montana and they have not been notified yet. Should they be able to pull that up in there direct Kia software information?
Back end databases take some time to update so Kia service reps see them in their system by VIN. Might take a couple weeks.
Interesting that your Hyundai announcement showed 021G as the recall but my GV60 was done on March 18th and the code was 023G??
Oh really? That is very interesting... 🤔
thanks for sharing brother!
I'm glad to help!
This ICCU failure in my EV6 just happened to me. Unfortunately, I was on a narrow road where I could not easily pull off. I did pull off about 1.5 miles after the warnings came on, and the car was completely dead shortly thereafter. Not a fun experience.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad you were able to pull off shortly after. Hopefully it can be fixed quickly!
Is this gonna fix the dead 12volt battery issue that a lot of people are having?
No, most of those issues aren't because of the ICCU
Does the recall involve any EV9 vehicles? I haven’t seen EV9 mentioned anywhere, is the ICCU different on EV9?
No the EV9 isn't included. I haven't seen anything about the EV9 having these kinds of issues.
Looking at the forums, it definitely is an issue with the EV9 as well.
The ICCU? I've seen updates related to the 12v, but not ICCU issues
@TechnicallyJeff Considering it's the same platform, it makes sense the EV9s would also have the same problem. I'm in the process of having my EV6 GT bought back and was thinking about the Ioniq 5 N, but I have a feeling the N will have the same issue.
I don't think the EV9 has the same ICCU part that's failing (or same software).
The recall is for 2022. Any idea when 2023 will be official? My 2023 GT line awd 15 k miles is at dealer. They ordered the ICCU but no ETA.
This is actually for 2022-2024 EV6s
@@TechnicallyJeff Strange, when I put in my VIN I did not get any recall warnings.
Yeah it's not showing by VIN yet. Databases need to be updated. You need to just search by year/make/model.
I haven't really seen many at all with the issue over the last several months.
@TechnicallyJeff wow you're fast. Thank you!
Of course! 😀
BTW, the NHTSA site shows that my 2023 model (late summer build) does not have any recalls open (yet)
Yeah the VIN lookup is likely going to take a few days while they update the servers. You can look at it by year/make/model though.
If they replce bad ICCUs with the same part, not re-designed or built differently, won't the same problem be lurking in terms of a future failures? OR is the thinking that the new software will prevent future failures with the same ICCU module?
It seems they think the new software will prevent issues
Just called my local dealer and they couldn't find any open recalls (includingSC302) for my 2022 EV6
That's irritating. Well they are supposed to be notified officially next month (before Hyundai dealers for the Ioniq 5 actually). So I guess we'll have to wait a month.
Jeff . There is a new Kia infoentertainment update today 5-2-2024 .. would be amazing if you talk about it in a new video
Yeah? Can you share the link? The only thing I've seen is people getting an OTA update which is a re-release of the V011.005 update from last year.
Well it is not a link I just receive the Update this morning . It seems it is an OTA update for Maps and Sound or simply for performance. When I updated it it only says Improved performance. So weird. I wish I could share with u at least the picture of update in progress but thats all I have. 😢
Oh gotcha yeah that's the re-released update. Nothing new. The new update will be out in about a month.
Is this for the UK models aswell? How do i check
Not as of yet, but surely coming soon
Thank you Jeff for providing this very important information. Would you happen to know the service campaign number? That way I can reference it when calling my dealer...
SC302 is the number. They may not have it quite yet though.
My Ioniq 5 died last week and had to be towed in. ICCU failure.I have about 2 weeks left to wait for them to get the part in.
Ahh man sorry to hear that
Should I avoid driving the vehicle until my appointment? Should I leave the vehicle outside of my garage in case it needs to be towed?
No I wouldn't worry. Most vehicles are okay and just need a software update.
I believe that all EV6 models are affected by this recall. After all, the same ICCU was installed in all vehicles. Or am I wrong?
Yep, all of them except the ones produced after the dates I mentioned in the video.
I had mine updated just today, be careful the car lost some functionality as a result of whatever was done. (lazy-boy mode during charging no longer works) has anyone else had complications?
Oh really? I haven't heard that. Lazy-boy mode?
@@TechnicallyJeff yeh man, button above the seat adjuster (up,down, forward, back) in 🇦🇺 if you tap the back side of the button it will ask you to check if anything’s is behind the driver seat and then if you tap it again to confirm will literally lay right back so you can relax or have a nap while it charges on those longer trips to rest.
Oh I'm jealous. The EV6 in the USA doesn't have that haha
@@TechnicallyJeff no way! Haha, well there ya go! Thanks for the content and info from Australia! 👍☺️ 🇦🇺
Crazy haha. Thanks for watching!
damnit, I literally just came back from the dealer today and they did SC271
Are you serious?? That's crazy. You'll have to go back in a month
I didn't even get the last year's recall done in fear of messing up my EV6 that's been working fine.
This isn't the type of thing I would hold off getting completed. There isn't really a risk of messing something up, however you may have an ICCU issue which leaves you stranded at some point.
my ioniq 5 ICCU was replaced 3 months ago and now the 2nd one is now going
that's crazy
@@TechnicallyJeff 6 week wait just to have the diagnostics done then once they do this and confirm the ICCU fault i then have to wait for the part to come in and an appointment to fit it as it takes a few days the last ICCU took 3 months to be fitted? its mental

Jeff what about SC236 parking brake and vehicle roll away for 2022 Kia EV6
Yeah those were last year. I have a video on the brake light update fix.
BTW - did you see that the Kia VP Product Litigation & Regulatory Compliance is “J.S. (Jurassic) Park”? 😂
bit of a stretch
I did see that. That's HILARIOUS 😅
That's the name listed lol
Watching this as I sit waiting for a tow because my system went wonky. Arghhhhhhhh!
Aww man I'm sorry
Just called my dealership and they don’t have the software yet
Might have to wait until the dealer notification next month.
don't expect too much.
what do you mean?
Pretty much all of the Hyundai's and Kia's are getting recalled!
Guys should have bought a Tesla!
Not the update only MINIMIZES the damage.
Haha nah when I got my ev6, Tesla's were much more expensive. The ev6 also has features Tesla does not.
@@TechnicallyJeff features the Tesla does not? Like having to take to the STEALERSHIPS for a software update?
Thanks!
Thanks so much! I'm glad to help!
