I love my copy of this lens, have it for 15 years now. Insanely sharp. I dropped it while visiting Japan in 2011. Still as sharp as ever, but manual focusing doesn’t work anymore. I never use that on any lens, so it’s still my main lens to this day.
I currently use an R7 with a Canon 17-55 2.8 with an adapter for R mount, what are the differences between the new sigma 18-55 2.8 and these lenses? Is it worth the change? The weight difference is very noticeable, but is the quality worth it?
Hi Maria, thanks for watching! The Sigma's main strength as you mentioned is how compact it is and some may find that alone is a good trade off. It's without question the better lens when space and weight is critical. Aside from that the Sigma will have a better build and focus. But i'd say if the Canon is working fine for you and weight isn't a deal breaker then stick with it, as it still holds its ground with everything else including OIS. Hope that helps!
My two most used general purpose lenses for my crop-framed DSLRS (culminating with my 7D Mark II) are the 17-55 f2.8 and the 15-85 f3.5-5.6. The 15-85 is my go to for daytime, outdoors "walk around" lens and the 17-55 is my indoor/night-time/low-light. Between them, they spent way more time on my cameras then the primes did, combined, with only my super telephoto (for birds and wildlife) giving them competition. I now have an R8, but if I ever get a crop-framed R camera, they'll come back into their own. Still use them on my 7D II and 70D though. Great review!
I don't see why not if you have a reliable EF to RF adapter like Metabones. Just double check the compatibility list before you purchase or even better see if you can try it first. Thanks for watching!
absolutely! its very similar to the kit lens just with better quality images and obviously the wider aperture which is almost always better. Just picked one up for 400, you found a great deal

Thanks Jeff! I agree, such an excellent lens for so many situations.

I hope it's still good in 2024 because I just bought it 😂

Can i put this lens i my r50 with adapter?

I have the canon 17-55 2.8 that i use with my old 550d. Would it be good enough if i bought an eos r7 ?
It would hold up very well. Just remember that you'll need an EFs to RF adapter as the R7 will have an RF mount.
I have a chance to get one for 350usd, I’m looking to replace the kit lens my rebel7 came with, do you recommend?
