Matty, I don’t normally comment on RUclips videos but this one really compelled me to. I am 1000s of miles away from my family and will be spending Christmas playing video games. This video really made me feel good spending the holiday with my favorite games.
(Had to edit this comment because I had no idea that this video would damn near bring me to tears. Masterful job Matty, this is easily one of your best videos.) From my years of listening to HAM radio to DD, I've heard many times how much Christmas means to you. But with this video, you've not only *displayed* your love for it, but also perfectly encompassed everything there is to love about the holidays and the memories from the games around them. I can feel how much heart is in this video, and it brings me such joy and nostalgia to hear about all of your Christmas memories. I can literally smell what my grandparents house smelled like during the holidays, and paint vivid pictures of crawling through what seems like a mountain of presents under their Christmas tree to find a small, wrapped, plastic rectangle with my name on it. It reminds me of the times when my family was much bigger too, and while I'm sad those times are past, I'm glad that I got to experience them in the first place. This will also be my first Christmas after moving out, and it has undoubtedly given me much anxiety and some sadness, but I am also excited to finally get to share my own Christmas with my girlfriend and our friends for the first time. A very Merry Christmas to both of you, Matty and Leile, and have a lucky New Year. Enjoy your break my guy 🎄
This was a beautiful video. This year will be the first Christmas without my grandmother. She's still alive, but is in a care home now, which has been the right decision for all of us, but it's a big change. I remember the years with the big games arriving from the big man in red, as well as being a bratty teen, and everything in between. This is the first year I'm looking forward to being Santa, as I commissioned some art pieces of our cats for my parents, and have finally had a good enough job to have basically bought everything I want. But there's so much more to the Holidays than giving and getting, and it's those other aspects that I'm looking forward to the most; time with friends, family, and time to reflect on the past year.

Excellent video, Matty. I'm probably 15-ish years older than you, but I too have games that I look back on through my life that remind me of the glorious holidays of years past. Time passes and life changes, but always remember to live for today, create new traditions, and hold the memories of the old ones in your heart.

I got Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for PS2 as a little pre christmas gift for the holidays back in the early 2000s, one or two years after the game launched so it was on the cheaper side. To this day I always get an itch to play the game around christmas. The same goes for Kessen 3. And Heroes of Might & magic 3, and Medieval 2 Total War for PC which I both got for christmas. Only last year I played Final Fantasy XII (remaster) for the first time in December while sipping on hot beverges and has apparently started to associate that game with christmas too as it is welcomed into the fold with the other games I have an extra desire to play around christmas:P

On that end note I just got a wii recently and man… it takes me back, I’m having so much fun re-playing games or playing new (to me) games that I didn’t have the money to get back then. It makes me think of all the consoles and games I had through my childhood that I no longer have and now are worth a pretty penny, maybe eventually I’ll get them back and share them with my kids
This will be my first Christmas without my 14 year old nephew, David. He died 7 months ago on May 13th. But I'm gonna do my best to celebrate Christmas. I bet he would do the same. He was a gamer like me. He was more into PC and I'm into consoles.
There is nothing like playing video games when it is cold outside and its Christmas time. For me even though it wasn't a Christmas game I have such fond memories of 100% AC II back in the day.
Just got done playing The Division 1 with a bud of mine, its a perfect time for more Christmas/winter themed games. Edit: Loving the live action skits that are going on in the intro, reminds me of some old school AVGN or something.
I still replay Shenmue every year around Christmas time. Walking around Dobuita at night while it’s snowing is a vibe you can’t get from any other game released before or since. Speaking of Dreamcast, Blue Stinger also has some 10/10 Christmas vibes.

My fav Christmas game actually isnt a Christmas game lol let me explain, back in 2012 i remember the only two games that my 12 year old heart desired and that was bo2 and ac 3 and my mother got me both for christmas and actually gave them to me early on the 21st. I remember everyone thought the world was gonna end that year on exatly 12/21/12 at midnight and i was scared to death so i waited till midnight, then nothing happend so i booted up ac3 and remember the opening cutscene actually scaring the shit out of me (you probably know why) i almost cut my ps3 off after that but couldnt because i had been anticipating that game for so long lol eveytime i play that game thoe i remember that night and i remember how happy my mother was to give me those games as it was all i talked about for months. She passed on in 2020 a week before Christmas il never forget how much joy it brought her to finnaly be able to get me that game and she worked really hard to do so. Thank you for this video as it has reminded me of all my best (and weird) holidays!
